Oops… I Went Into Heat and My Alpha Daddies Claimed Me

Chapter 200: THE NEWS THAT SHE WASN’T SUPPOSED TO HEAR

Keisha’s POV

The mansion was empty after Lyra and her boyfriend left.

This was awkward.

I sat with one hand resting over my stomach, trying to ignore the uncomfortable twisting sensation that had been bothering me for most of the morning.

Becca eventually appeared from the hallway and stopped beside the sofa, looking at me with the same concerned expression she had on when she thought something was wrong.

"Would you like me to have lunch brought out here? You haven’t eaten much today, and I know you probably don’t feel like getting up, but you should at least try to have something." She suggested.

I shook my head and leaned back against the sofa. "I don’t think I can eat right now. My stomach has been bothering me since morning, and the smell of food is probably going to make it worse."

Becca frowned. "Is it the babies again?"

"It’s probably just the pregnancy. Everything seems to be bothering me lately. Sometimes I’m hungry enough to eat everything in the kitchen, and other times the thought of food makes me feel sick before I’ve even seen it."

She came around the sofa and looked at me more closely. "You should let the priestess know. She told you to come to her whenever you felt the power becoming difficult to control, didn’t she?"

"I know what she said." I sighed.

"Then why aren’t you going?"

I gave her a tired smile. "Because I don’t want to run to her every time something feels uncomfortable. I’ll be fine. It will probably settle down soon."

Becca clearly wasn’t convinced, but she didn’t argue with me. Instead, she disappeared into the kitchen and returned with something she said would help settle the discomfort. I took it, drank some water and remained on the sofa while she watched me for a few minutes before finally going back to whatever she had been doing.

Gradually, the discomfort eased.

I exhaled and rested my head against the cushion, relieved that I hadn’t needed to make another trip anywhere. The thought of the priestess still hovered in my mind, especially after what she’d told me about the babies and the unusual amount of power they carried, but I pushed it aside.

It was not a cause for alarm to go back to her yet.

My phone rang before I could think about anything else.

I glanced at the screen and smiled when I saw Lyra’s name. "You’re calling already?" I answered, adjusting myself against the sofa. "I thought you were supposed to be busy."

"I am busy, but I realized something before we left and I forgot to tell you."

I immediately became suspicious. "What did you forget?"

"Something about Riven." She muttered.

My smile disappeared. "Lyra, I don’t want to hear about Riven."

She groaned. "I know you don’t, but you need to know what happened."

Slowly, I leaned back in the seat. "I really don’t. Whatever he’s doing now has nothing to do with me."

She sighed on the other end. "Keisha, just listen for a minute. I’m not calling to upset you. I’m telling you because I thought you should know what happened to Mara."

That caught my attention despite myself. "What happened to her?"

"Mara isn’t Luna anymore." She informed me.

I sat up straighter. "What?"

"They removed her." Her voice had become lower.

I stared ahead, trying to process it. "Why?"

"Because the pack finally discovered the truth about her pregnancy. She wasn’t carrying Riven’s child, and apparently she’d been deceiving everyone for quite some time. Once they started investigating, they discovered she’d been seeing someone else behind his back." She explained.

Oh shit.

I rubbed my forehead slowly. "So the pregnancy was a lie?"

"Yes. The whole thing. She used it to keep Riven from leaving her and to make the pack believe she was carrying his heir. When the truth came out, everything fell apart." Lyra sighed heavily. "It was a lot."

I remained quiet.

I hadn’t expected to hear that. Mara had caused enough problems in my life that I wasn’t sure what emotion I was supposed to feel hearing that she’d finally lost everything she’d been pretending to have.

"Are you okay?" Lyra asked.

"I don’t know." I answered honestly.

Lyra paused for a second. "You don’t have to feel sorry for her."

"I’m not sure I’m sorry for her," I admitted. "But I don’t feel happy either. It’s strange hearing all of this after everything that happened. Part of me thinks she brought it on herself, but another part of me doesn’t want to celebrate someone else’s downfall."

Lyra was quiet for a moment before answering. "That’s probably because you’re not like her."

I smiled faintly. "Such kind words I needed to hear today."

"That’s what sisters are for."

We talked for another few minutes before Lyra finally told me she needed to go. She promised she’d call again when they settled in, and I reminded her not to disappear for too long.

When the call ended, I slipped my phone into my pocket and stood carefully from the sofa. I had barely reached the stairs when the front door opened.

Nadia walked inside and I immediately noticed something was wrong.

She wasn’t carrying the excited expression she’d had when she left earlier. Her shoulders were slightly tense, and the enthusiasm that had been written all over her face before her outing with Rhett was nowhere to be seen.

I stopped on the stairs. "What happened?"

Nadia looked up at me and forced a smile that didn’t fool me for even a second. "Nothing."

I raised an eyebrow. "You’ve known me long enough to know that I’m not going to believe that."

She dropped her bag onto one of the chairs and walked farther into the sitting room before turning around to face me.

"I was having a really good time," she said, sounding frustrated. "Rhett took me to this place outside the usual areas of the pack. It was actually beautiful, and I was having fun until we started hearing people talking about the Duskfen. Then more guards started moving around, and suddenly everyone was acting like something terrible was about to happen."

My stomach tightened. "The Duskfen?"

Nadia nodded. "You haven’t heard?"

I slowly came down the remaining steps. "Heard what?"

Her expression changed when she realized I genuinely didn’t know. "Keisha, there’s a war coming."

I stared at her. "What?"

"The Duskfen are outside our borders. Dad and Dane are preparing the warriors, and apparently things got worse because they sent someone to negotiate with them and the man came back dead."

I felt the blood drain from my face. "Who told you this?"

"Rhett. He didn’t tell me everything because he wasn’t supposed to be discussing pack business with me, but I could tell something serious was happening. Everyone knows now."

I looked toward the windows, suddenly remembering how quiet the mansion had been and how strange the guards had seemed earlier. "Why didn’t anyone tell me?"

Nadia gave me an incredulous look. "I thought Dad would have told you."

"I haven’t seen him since then." I muttered under my breath.

She walked toward me, lowering her voice. "There’s something else."

I looked at her. "What?"

Nadia hesitated, and that hesitation made my stomach drop even further. "The rumor about you."

I frowned. "What rumor?"

She stared at me for a moment before finally saying it. "The bond between you, Dad and Dane. Everyone knows."

I couldn’t move. "What?"

"The elders confronted Dad about it. They asked him directly if you were his mate and Dane’s too, and they asked whether the babies belonged to both of them. I don’t know how the rumor spread so quickly, but people are talking about it everywhere."

My hand instinctively moved over my stomach.

Nadia stepped closer, her voice becoming gentler. "Keisha, I don’t know who told them or how much everyone knows, but it’s out there now. The whole pack is talking."

Oh no.
