Oops… I Went Into Heat and My Alpha Daddies Claimed Me

Chapter 196: A PROMISE BEFORE LEAVING

Keisha’s POV

Lyra stayed with me for a while after everyone else had gone downstairs, and I could tell from the way she kept checking the time that she knew they couldn’t remain much longer.

She eventually sat beside me and rested her hands over mine, her expression softening as she spoke about the next few days and everything she still had to arrange.

"We’ll be leaving tomorrow," Lyra said, giving my hand a gentle squeeze. "I know I haven’t spent nearly enough time with you since I came, but I’ll keep you updated about everything with the engagement. I don’t want you sitting here wondering what’s happening, especially when you already have enough going on."

I smiled at her. "You don’t have to worry about that. I’m just happy you’re happy, and I want to hear everything. If you start planning without telling me, though, I’ll be offended."

She laughed and leaned back against the headboard. "You won’t be left out. I’ll tell you about the proposal, the families, the plans, everything. I still can’t believe we’re actually discussing an engagement."

I looked down at my stomach and rubbed it slowly. "You’re not the only one with something big coming up. I’m getting closer every day, and honestly, sometimes I still can’t believe how quickly this pregnancy has gone."

Lyra’s expression immediately changed as she looked at my stomach. "You’re going to be due soon, aren’t you? I keep thinking I have plenty of time, and then I remember that you’re already six months gone."

"I’m getting there," I replied with a small laugh. "And before you start panicking, I’m fine. The babies are fine. I’m just tired all the time now."

"That’s exactly why I’m telling you that when the time comes, you better call me immediately. I don’t care where I am or what I’m doing. If you tell me you’re going into labor soon, I’m coming straight back. Like a week before the due date or whatever."

I smiled at her. "I’ll hold you to that."

"You should," she said firmly. "I missed enough already. I’m not missing the birth of my nieces or nephews."

Before I could answer, there was a knock at the door, and Daniel appeared a moment later with an apologetic smile. "Sorry to interrupt you both, but I think we should get going. We still have a few things to sort out before tomorrow."

Lyra nodded and stood, turning back toward me as she adjusted her clothes. "I’ll call you when we arrive, and don’t you dare disappear on me."

"I won’t."

She hugged me carefully before pulling away, and Daniel greeted me again before the two of them left together. I remained in the room for another minute before deciding to go downstairs, but when I stepped into the hallway, I nearly walked straight into Nadia.

She had just come out of her room, and I stopped when I saw how dressed up she was.

I looked her over before smiling. "Where exactly are you going dressed like that?"

Nadia glanced down at herself and then back at me. "I’m meeting Rhett."

Diane whistled in my head. "Ouuu, of course she is."

"Meeting Rhett?" I asked Nadia, ignoring Diane’s suggestive comment.

"Yes. He said he’d show me some places around the pack that most people don’t know about. Apparently there are some beautiful spots hidden away from the main areas, and he knows where all of them are."

I raised an eyebrow. "And does your father know about this little tour?"

Her expression immediately became guilty. "Keisha, please don’t tell him."

I laughed. "Why are you asking me to keep secrets from Callum now?"

"Because he’ll turn a simple walk into a security meeting. He’ll send guards after us, then he’ll start asking Rhett why he took me somewhere without permission, and somehow I’ll end up being forbidden from leaving the mansion for a week."

I shook my head, amused by how accurately she’d described Callum’s reaction. "Fine. I won’t say anything, but you have to be careful."

"I will."

I watched her for a moment before asking, "So, you and Rhett are still calling yourselves friends?"

"We are friends," she replied, though the smile that appeared on her face made the answer sound less convincing than she probably intended. "We’re just getting to know each other. Nothing has happened."

"Nothing?"

She gave me an annoyed look. "Don’t start."

"I’m only asking." I shrugged.

"Then yes, we’re friends. That’s all you need to know."

I laughed and stepped aside so she could pass. "Fine. Go enjoy your secret tour before your father discovers you disappeared."

She hurried away, but I could still hear her laughing as she headed downstairs.

I was about to return to my room when Klein appeared at the end of the hallway. He walked toward me with a small bag in his hand, and I immediately knew he had come to say goodbye. "You’re leaving already?"

He nodded. "I have a few things to take care of, but I’ll be keeping in touch. Especially about the people who have been targeting you. I don’t want you thinking that because I’m leaving the estate, I’m no longer involved."

I looked at him carefully. "I’ll be careful."

"I know you will, but don’t rely only on that. If anything unusual happens, contact me. If you notice anyone following you or behaving strangely, I want to know."

I nodded. "I understand."

Klein gave me a small smile before stepping closer and hugging me briefly. "Take care of yourself, Keisha. I’ll speak to you soon."

"Take care of yourself too."

He left shortly afterward, and when I looked around the mansion, I realized almost everyone had gone somewhere. Lyra and Daniel had left, Nadia was with Rhett, Klein was heading out, and Callum was still occupied with pack matters.

That left one person I could actually find.

Dane.

I made my way toward his quarters and knocked before opening the door slightly. I stopped when I saw him standing near his wardrobe without a shirt, apparently in the middle of changing after whatever work he’d been doing.

He immediately turned toward me. "Keisha?"

I looked away for a moment and then back at him. "Sorry. I didn’t realize you were changing."

He reached for a shirt and pulled it on before looking at me again. "You don’t have to apologize. Nothing you haven’t seen. Come inside."

I entered, and he gestured toward the chair as though I were some formal visitor who had come to discuss estate business. "You can sit."

I stared at him. "Why are you treating me like a guest?"

He gave a small smile. "Because you came to my room unexpectedly, and I don’t know why yet."

I sat down and folded my hands over my stomach. "I came because I wanted to talk to you."

"About what?"

"Lyra."

His expression became more serious, but he waited for me to continue.

"I spoke to her today. She told me what actually happened between you two, and I wanted to apologize because I was hostile toward you before. I made assumptions about your relationship because I didn’t know the whole story, and I shouldn’t have done that."

Dane sat opposite me and listened carefully before answering. "You don’t have to apologize for caring about your sister. I understood why you were protective of her, especially when you didn’t know what had happened between us. I’m glad she finally told you the truth, though. It means there’s no reason for you to feel like you have to keep your distance from me because of her."

I smiled slightly. "So we’re fine?"

"We’re fine. We’ve always been fine."

I nodded, relieved that the conversation had gone better than I’d expected. Neither of us spoke for a few moments afterward, and the room became quiet.

Slowly, he grinned. "Do you know how pretty you look right now?"

My cheeks flushed. "Oh really?"

He hummed. "Very pretty."

When he leaned closer, I didn’t move away, and his lips met mine firmly.

I groaned slightly, tugging at his shirt as his mouth moved against mine with an increasing urgency.

Oh sh—

A knock sounded against the door almost immediately.

Dane groaned, pulled away and looked toward it with an irritated expression. "Who is it?"

The door opened, and a messenger stood outside. "Dane, I’m sorry to interrupt, but the Alpha needs you immediately. He said it’s urgent."

Dane looked at me before standing. "I’ll be there."

The messenger nodded and stepped aside.

Dane turned back toward me. "I’ll come find you later. If that’s fine. If it’s not, I’ll definitely wait here with you or whatever. Callum wouldn’t mind, and we could just talk or whatever."

I almost barked out a laugh. "Calm down. I’m not mad. It’s totally fine."

He looked unsure. "You sure?"

I nodded. "Go. If Callum says it’s urgent, you shouldn’t keep him waiting."

He left with the messenger, and I remained in the room for a moment before getting up and heading back toward my own room.

What was urgent that needed his attention now?
