Oops… I Went Into Heat and My Alpha Daddies Claimed Me

Chapter 187: A SISTER’S NEWS

Keisha’s POV

Callum didn’t interrupt me while I told him everything. I started with the new messages I had received, then the ring, the meeting with Klein, the organization he had been investigating and finally the documents he had given me.

I told him about the company my mother had left behind and the portion Klein intended to hand over to Lyra and me, leaving nothing out because I knew there was no point trying to hide any of it from him now.

When I finished, Callum remained quiet for several seconds, his expression difficult to read. "You understand how dangerous that was, don’t you?"

I sighed. "I knew it was risky."

"No, Keisha. You knew it was risky enough to make you nervous. That’s different from understanding what could have happened. You left the estate, avoided the guards and went somewhere with a man you hadn’t seen since you were a child because he sent you a message. You could have been walking straight into another trap."

"But I wasn’t. And I got to learn a few other things."

"That’s not the point." He cut me off.

I reached up and gently held his face, making him look at me. "I’m here."

His jaw tightened. "You keep saying that as if being alive now means you couldn’t have been hurt."

"I know you’re worried about me." I whispered.

"Of course I’m worried about you." His eyes darted up to look at me properly.

"Then trust me a little." I pleaded.

His expression softened, but he still didn’t look convinced. "I’ve spent years looking after you," he said quietly. "I watched you grow up. I watched you become the woman you are now. When something happens to you, my first thought isn’t whether you’ve made the right decision. It’s whether you’re safe."

I nodded. "I appreciate that." Then I let my hand fall from his face. "But you need to let me do something for myself too. Callum, I’m not completely clueless. I know there’s something wrong in this pack. I know people aren’t happy with you, and I know there are people who would rather see you lose your position than continue ruling the way you do. I also know someone has been targeting me repeatedly."

He watched me carefully. "Obviously, but that doesn’t mean you should put yourself in danger."

"I’m not asking you to stop protecting me. I’m asking you to stop treating me like I’m incapable of protecting myself."

"You are carrying two children." He raised a brow. "Kinda too much for a pregnant woman to do all this. Besides, those children make you an even bigger target."

I moved closer. "You have the council to deal with. You have pack matters. You have people constantly questioning your decisions, and now there’s an organization somewhere out there trying to get to me. I don’t want every problem in your life to become another thing you have to carry because of me."

His brows drew together. "You think you’re a burden?"

I immediately shook my head. "That’s not what I said."

"It’s exactly what you said." He frowned.

I looked away. "I’m saying I don’t want to become one."

He reached for my hand. "You’re not."

I looked back at him and he continued. "Whatever happens in this pack, whatever the council decides, whatever is happening with that organization, none of that makes you a burden to me."

I didn’t answer immediately and he squeezed my hand. "But if you’re going to investigate things on your own, at least let me know what you’re doing. I can’t protect you from something I don’t know exists."

"That’s fair." I agreed.

"Good." He stood, but before he reached the door, he stopped. "Your uncle."

I looked up. "What about him?"

"I’d like to meet him." He told me.

I smiled faintly. "You want to interrogate him?"

He didn’t look too pleased at my wording. "I said meet him."

My brow raised. "You didn’t say it like you meant it."

He gave me a look. "Invite him for dinner sometime. Somewhere here. I want to hear what he knows, especially about the organization."

"I’ll ask him." I nodded.

"Good." He leaned down and pressed a brief kiss to my forehead before straightening. "Get some rest."

"I will." I assured him.

Callum gave me a look that was thoughtful. "And don’t leave the estate without telling me again."

I smiled. "I’ll try."

"Keisha." His voice hardened.

"Fine. I won’t." I laughed.

He nodded, apparently satisfied, and left. I waited until the door closed before reaching for my phone. There was one person I needed to speak to immediately.

Lyra.

Lyra answered after several rings. "Keisha?"

"Hi." I took a deep breath.

Her voice sounded groggy. "Why are you calling me at this time?"

I tried to level my voice. "I need to ask you something."

There was a pause. "You met Uncle Klein." She suddenly deadpanned.

I blinked. "How did you know?"

"You should know he’s met me." Then Lyra sighed. "Have you seen what Mother left?"

"I have." I said.

Her tone became one of surprise. "It’s unbelievable."

I agreed almost immediately. "I didn’t even know she owned anything."

"Neither did I. I spent the entire afternoon trying to understand the documents he sent me. I kept thinking someone had made a mistake." She sounded tired and resigned.

"That’s exactly how I felt."

Lyra laughed. "All these years, we thought we knew everything about her."

Sadness filled me. "Apparently she had an entire life we knew nothing about. She really kept us in the dark."

"Maybe she thought she was protecting us."

"Maybe." I whispered.

We were quiet for a moment. Then Lyra suddenly said, "There’s something else."

Oh? The change in her voice immediately caught my attention. "What?"

"I wanted to tell you when I saw you a few days later, but since we’re already talking..." She trailed off.

"Lyra, what happened?" I urged her to continue.

She laughed nervously. "I’m getting married."

I stared at the phone. "What?"

No fucking way.

"I’m getting married." She repeated, excitement painting her words.

I sat there completely stunned. "You’re joking."

"I’m not." She laughed.

I literally gasped at that. "When did this happen?"

"Recently." She sounded pleased at my reaction.

For a second, I tried to wrap my head around what I had just heard. "Recently? What does recently mean? How recently?"

She laughed. "You’re asking too many questions at once."

"Because you just told me you’re getting married like you were telling me you bought a new dress. Who is he? How did you meet him? How long have you known him? Why didn’t you tell me?" My voice rose.

"I was going to."

"When?" I hissed.

She paused. "When I was sure it was serious."

"Okay. Now. How serious?" I asked.

She barked out a laugh. "Serious enough that I’m marrying him."

I covered my mouth, laughing despite my shock. "Lyra, this is insane."

"I know." She squealed.

"You have a man and a wedding and somehow I didn’t know any of this?" I still sounded shocked.

She sounded coy now. "I wanted to tell you properly."

"Then tell me now."

"Not over the phone." She practically rolled her eyes at me.

I groaned. "You’re doing this deliberately."

"I’m coming this weekend." She informed me.

Oh? I immediately smiled at that. "You’re bringing him?"

"Yes." She giggled.

I ran a hand through my hair. "I need to meet him."

"You will." She assured me. "Please don’t scare him away."

I smiled. "Fine. I’ll behave. "Just come this weekend," I told her. "I want to hear everything. I’m so happy for you."

Her voice softened. "Thank you."

When the call ended, I lowered the phone and stared at it for a moment, still trying to process everything that had happened in one day.

I couldn’t wait for the weekend.
