Heir Of Chaos

Chapter 87: Tier 3 Library

Dale soon left General Malcolm’s office. It still felt a bit strange, knowing that he had accepted being sponsored by them.

Now that he had, he would start milking it as soon as possible.

So rather than return to his house in Eden, Dale walked through the underground city. He navigated through it and asked for directions when needed.

It was all so he could find a particular building.

"The library." Dale smiled as he stared at the large building that was the library.

Just like the one in his first-year boot camp, this library was large and covered a wide range of topics spanning various genres.

The difference was the tiers that were implemented.

The bottom floor was the first tier. It was primarily accessible to everyone within the underground city.

To them, the library served as a casual hangout spot and recreational center.

The middle floor was the second tier. Dale had only heard about it from Austin some time ago but apparently, it contained far more detailed information about the nation’s map.

Aside from that, it also contained information about the discovery of blessed weapons and how they were created. Naturally, it wasn’t too detailed but it was better than nothing.

Now, the top floor was the third tier. The tier 3 library.

Nobody knew for sure what was up there but Dale believed that at the very least, more information about blessed weapons and special items — like the training doll — would be there.

Hopefully, he might even find some schematics.

"Here I go." Dale sighed and entered the building. As he opened the door to the library, he was hit with the smell of books and wood.

He turned to the table at the entrance and took note of the lack of a librarian. ’I know I have clearance to head to the top floor but what if I didn’t?’ It was very disappointing that they hadn’t considered someone trying to sneak up to the third tier of the library.

Dale shrugged and climbed up the stairs until he got to the top floor.

Unlike the bottom floor, the shelves were small and widespread. There didn’t seem to be a lot of books even on the small shelves.

’There aren’t any genres.’ The books there were arranged in alphabetical order and none of them seemed to be fantasy or any of the normal genres one would expect to find in a library.

Dale walked through the shelves until he came to the letter ’T’. There, he saw a small book with the words ’Theory of Mysticism’ written on in golden, calligraphy.

He raised an eyebrow. ’Is this a textbook?’ It didn’t seem like it but there was only one way to find out.

He walked to a table and sat, opening the book.

Immediately, the first page intrigued him.

[The discovery of abilities is more than just biology, it’s magic.

So amazing is that which is mystical but even in magic there’s science. There’s a Theory of Mysticism.]

Dale smiled as he read the beginning. "A little on the nose if you ask me." Yet what intrigued him was that the text wasn’t typed out.

If anything, it was meticulously handwritten. Which begged the question; which came first, the textbooks or this journal?

The next few pages talked about things which he already knew like how the first awakening pool was discovered.

It even included details about the first beasts encountered by humanity. Amongst the text, however, was something that stood out.

[After the first awakening pool was accidentally discovered, more pools surfaced by themselves as though sentient]

This finally answered something that was a bit unclear even after all this time. If the first pool was only found in an archeological digsite — after centuries of digging found nothing — then pools were extremely rare.

And if they were rare, they wouldn’t be found in so many states and their value would undoubtedly be higher than it currently is.

This meant that the pools were far more common than they were supposed to be. As the author of the journal he was reading, more of the pool surfaced by itself.

But seeing as the pool wasn’t actually alive, it made Dale wonder why exactly it had increased in number.

Surely there was something unique about it and the author seemed to think so as well.

With this in mind, he continued reading. More of the following text was boring, standard stuff... until.

[As was said earlier, the discovery of abilities is more than just biology but it is still biology.

It works with the genes and DNA of the person who awakens one. Whether it can be passed on is still up for debate]

Dale already knew for a fact that abilities could be passed on... or at least that’s what the rulers of the Aereon kingdom believed.

Ever since their late King Aereon died, his children believed that the more of his blood you have, the more powerful you are.

He couldn’t be too sure if it was fact or fallacy. After all, the Aereon kingdom was one of the three surviving nations.

So at the very least, there had to be some truth to those words.

Or maybe it was completely bullshit and the royal family of their kingdom was crazy. ’It is very much a possibility. Either that or it’s something that was strictly a facet of Aereon’s ability skill when he was alive.’

There were a lot of hypotheses regarding that matter and unless you were born into the family, there was no way to tell for certain.

Dale flipped to the next few pages, skipping whole chunks of text because nothing in particular grabbed his attention, until a header made him stop in his tracks.

[The difference in capability between humans and beasts when it comes to AIDE]

[What can humans do? What can beasts do? Is there anything a human can do that a beast can? And more importantly, is there something a beast can do that a human can?]
