Chapter 82: Choice
Dale couldn’t understand why anyone would willingly support the Aereon kingdom. It was no secret that the experiments the royal family performed on the ’lower caste’ were in the name of bloodline purity.
If they did win the war — assuming it wasn’t called off — then surely everyone within the Utra nation would be turned into slaves. Or worse, cattle used for bloodline variation.
Surely, the family wouldn’t be foolish enough to believe that they’d have power within the expanded kingdom.
Dale gritted his teeth. He was more frustrated by the fact that he had gotten himself involved with the entire thing.
Granted, Matt hadn’t explicitly told him what he found but still.
’Truly, curiosity kills the cat.’
Dale turned to Matt. "That leaves one thing that doesn’t make sense. How did you escape? Surely they must have suspected you before you even left."
Matt took a step back and stepped into the shadows. As soon as his body was consumed by the darkness, his presence completely vanished.
It was almost as though he wasn’t there at all. Even staring at him was difficult.
As Dale stared, it was as if his eyes kept trying to look away.
"So your ability skill allows you to blend into shadows?" Granted, it could be useful but Dale doubted he would have escaped with just that.
Matt shook his head, "No, that’s just one of my Dormant ability skills. My Awakened ability skill lets me actively reduce all negative emotions directed towards me."
"It includes but isn’t limited to suspicion, caution, anger, and jealousy. That certainly stopped people from being wary of my presence there."
Dale nodded and placed a hand under his chin. Matt’s ability skills were simply god-send for infiltration tasks.
Unlike other people who would seek to escape once suspected, he could just use his Awakened ability skill to ease their worries.
’So it isn’t just his youthful face that is placating me. It’s his actual powers.’ Alas, knowing about it and stopping yourself from being affected were completely different.
Matt and Eden were the only two creatures he had seen with powers that affected the mind.
’Maybe I should put some effort into finding something to protect my mind.’ He put it in the back of his mind.
So now, Dale had one of two choices. He could hand Matt over to Sera despite all he had been told.
This would ensure his monetary safety but he would ultimately die at the hands of the Aereon kingdom because he was sure that he’d fight against being their slave until his body dropped.
Or he could somehow help Matt escape and potentially get himself killed by Sera or the family behind the entire fiasco.
Dale ran a hand over his face. ’Since when did my life decisions only involve my possible death. Aren’t kids my age meant to be stressing over getting the latest phone?’
An idea struck Dale like a bolt of lightning. The phone he had been given was still up there on the top floor.
He and Matt obviously couldn’t get to it because it could get them caught. On the other hand, Matt could probably get there and call for aid.
Dale finalized the details of the plan in his head. It had to work else he would die... one way or another.
He turned his focus back on Matt and took a step closer. "Come, tell me more about your ability skill and I mean the specifics."

Dale stepped out of Watchtower One. He seemed just as unbothered as he had been when he first entered.
Sera landed beside him and raised an eyebrow. "Really? Still nothing?"
He nodded and shrugged. "It’s not my fault that he’s not stupid enough to remain in one place."
In reality, he was in fact that stupid. How he had survived was a mystery.
A small dot appeared in the air beside Dale and enlarged until it formed a large oval. Porter stepped out of the portal and let it close behind him.
"I checked everywhere within 50 miles in all directions. He’s not out there." He turned his head to the desert, looking around slowly.
By then, the sun had set and the full moon was just a little above the horizon.
The moonlight was bright but not as bright as the sun so it was nearly impossible to catch faint movements in the sand yet that was what happened.
Sera’s head snapped forward into the sandy dunes. One of the largest sandhills had long collapsed.
She hadn’t even noticed when it happened yet she knew exactly what was about to happen.
"Portal now!!" She yelled and Porter stretched out his arms. Unlike before, he groaned and pushed himself to open a portal.
He was about to step through but before he could, Dale gripped him and used Energy Pulse.
Porter’s eyes rolled to the back of his skull as his body started to malfunction from within. Dale didn’t even want to imagine how much pain he was in.
Dale gripped his arms and pulled them with all his strength. He spun about his heel and used the momentum to pull up Porter’s unconscious body as a shield.
Sera’s fist collided with the body, sending them flying into Watchtower One.
As Dale crashed through the wall, he could hear a few bones crack yet he laughed as he kept his eyes on Sera.
She spread out her wings and tried to fly at him but the sand beneath her feet exploded outwards and a worm the size of a whale shot out.
The mouth of the worm shut around her just as quickly as it had jumped out but Dale didn’t think for even a second that she was dead.
He pushed Porter’s dead body off himself. His leg was visibly misshapen and blood ran down his head.
"Fuck me! It hurts!" No amount of mental preparation could prepare anyone for the actual pain of breaking numerous bones in their body.
The reason he had not passed out from shock was because of the adrenaline coursing through him.
A bright golden light shone all the way through the skin of the worm and a small hole ripped its way through the head of the worm.
Sera shot out, wings out and in full display.
Despite the beast behind her, she glared at Dale and shot at him.
"Shit!"
She had barely moved a few inches when the tail of the worm smacked her aside. It was determined to kill her.
For her to kill him, she had to kill it and Dale didn’t plan for either to happen.
