Chapter 389: The Youth Tournament – Part 6
Brynn whistled as she stood there, still transfixed by the fight which had just taken place.
She had been hailed as a genius for as long as she could remember, showered with resources and taught by the best teachers her family could provide, but witnessing Christina meticulously and methodically pick Rowan apart piece-by-piece until he was little more than a shattered mess, she now realized what a real genius looked like.
The princess was younger than her by a year, but if the two of them were to face each other right now, Brynn was certain she would lose within the first 10 moves even if she focused only on defending herself.
It was a shocking revelation, but that didn’t discourage Brynn. If anything, she only felt more fired up.
As for Lucas and Eris, neither of them was surprised by this outcome.
Normally, their Junior Sister was incredibly calm, composed, and kind, but she could be quite scary when she got angry, which was why Lucas still called her ’violent princess’ every now and then.
Now, every time the boy did so, Christina would beat him up, but that only served to reinforce the moniker in Lucas’ head.
No one among the masters present was surprised by this result, either.
From the opening exchange, all of them could tell that Christina was on a completely different level than Rowan, which made sense given her identity and who her Master was.
The only ones showing sour looks on their faces were Rowan’s relatives. Their family’s young genius had been half-crippled and utterly humiliated in full view of the public by a girl who was both younger and supposedly weaker than him. It was only natural for them to be feeling upset.
That being said, the one they were most disgruntled with was Rowan himself. Recently, this boy had been too busy skirt-chasing with other spoiled young masters from the capital and had been slacking off on his training, relying only on his talent to coast by.
This was undoubtedly a harsh and painful lesson for the boy, but if they had to find a silver lining, perhaps it would be enough to wake him up and get him to take his cultivation seriously again.
.....
"Good job, Sister Tina!" Eris welcomed her Sworn Sister as the latter hopped off the stage.
"En, you held back well," Lucas added.
"Thanks," Christina smiled happily, shrugging her shoulders nonchalantly, "It was nothing much."
Beating up a weakling wasn’t something to be proud about, but punching an annoying bastard and putting him in his place did allow her to relieve some of her stress.
Turning to the last member of this group, Tina nodded politely, "It’s been a while, Lady Campbell."
"Indeed it has, Your Highness," Brynn saluted in a manner appropriate for greeting a member of the Royal Family.
After she did so, though, Brynn flashed a big smile, "I’ve never liked that Rowan. It was great seeing you thrash him."
Christina laughed and shook her head, "He had it coming."
"Hahaha, true, true," Brynn chuckled as well before tilting her head slightly and staring for a moment.
Noticing this odd reaction, Christina couldn’t help asking, "Is something wrong, Lady Campbell?"
"No, it’s just," Brynn paused, seemingly trying to find the right words.
Eventually, the tall girl decided to stop thinking about it so hard and just speak bluntly, "You seem... different. Less uptight, Your Highness."
"And I see you’re as unrestrained as always, Lady Campbell," Christina smiled wryly.
"Ah... sorry, that was rude of me, wasn’t it?" Brynn scratched her cheek awkwardly.
"Not at all," Tina extended her hand, "I’ve always appreciated your frankness, Brynn."
Seeing the outstretched hand and hearing the princess call her only by her first name, Brynn was momentarily stunned before she let out another hearty laugh.
"I’ve always admired you as well, Christina," grabbing the offered hand, Brynn shook it warmly and smiled, "Let’s be friends."
"Let’s," Christina nodded happily.
"Mmmm..." Eris pursed her lips and scrunched up her brow for a moment, but eventually she relaxed and nodded, "Alright, if Sister Tina wants to be friends with you, I guess I can forgive you as well."
"Oh? Forgive me for what, exactly?" Brynn turned to look at the younger girl and asked, a teasingly glint flashing across her eyes.
"For... for... uh..." Eris suddenly froze, her eyes darting back and forth between the tall girl and Lucas before turning to her Sworn Sister and silently begging for help.
Seeing this, Christina recalled the rather bold declaration Brynn had made earlier and let out a sigh, "Don’t worry about it, Eris. Brynn wasn’t serious."
"But I was," Brynn insisted.
"Uh huh, sure," Christina said with a deadpan look on her face. She had calmed down quite a bit after beating the living daylights out of Rowan and come to realize that Brynn wasn’t serious when she made her earlier ’proposal’.
The silver haired and brown-haired girls stared at each other for a few seconds before Brynn finally relented, "Fine, maybe it was a joke."
"However..." Brynn hesitated before adding, "I wouldn’t object if it came down to it. I prefer guys with a bit more muscle on them, but other than that, I don’t think any girl would refuse being Lucas’ future partner."
"No!" Eris shouted, "Lucas can only marry... can only marry..."
Her eyes literally spinning, Eris tried to find a way to dig herself out of the hole she had dug for herself.
"Senior Brother Lucas can only marry a girl his Junior Sisters approve of, first," Christina decided to step in and save her Senior Sister once more.
"Yes! That’s it!" Eris nodded vigorously.
"Hahahaha!" Brynn threw her head back and laughed, taking almost half-a-minute to regain her composure before musing, "You girls are too cute! Aren’t they, Lucas?"
Turning their heads, the three girls were stunned to find that, at some point, Lucas had quietly slipped away without them noticing.
"He’s also pretty good at escaping," Brynn commented.
"You don’t know the half of it," Christina rolled her eyes.
As for Eris, she just pouted again, thinking it was pretty pathetic of Lucas to run away now.
.....
"Lucas? What are you doing here?" Timothy Balfour asked when he suddenly discovered the young boy standing beside him.
"I needed some male company," Lucas commented cryptically.
"Err... okay?" Timothy was confused, but didn’t dwell on the subject. As far as he was concerned, Lucas was always welcome to hang out with him and his friends.
