Chapter 346 - 220: Two Demons Contending (Part 2)
Hearing this, a flash of surprise flickered in the black-robed man’s eyes. He never imagined the young man before him would be so audacious, not only killing King Changping but also daring to speak to him with such righteous conviction.
"I am a Tributor of the imperial court. By killing a high minister, you have made yourself an enemy of the court. Do you have any idea what that means?" the black-robed man said in a low voice, attempting to intimidate Fang Yue with his status.
However, Fang Yue just sneered. "A Tributor of the court? So what? When I kill, I don’t ask for names. He deserved to die, so I killed him."
The black-robed man was fuming, incensed by Fang Yue’s arrogance. When had he ever met someone who showed him such utter disregard?
"Good! Good! Good!"
He said the word "good" three times. "Since you’re so determined to die, I’ll grant you your wish!"
With that, the black-robed man shot toward Fang Yue. His speed was incredible; in an instant, he was right in front of Fang Yue, a fist blasting toward his chest.
Fang Yue was prepared. With a flash of movement, he dodged the black-robed man’s attack.
He didn’t counterattack, however. He just turned and ran.
’This black-robed man is strong. He gives me a profound sense of danger.’
’His cultivation has likely surpassed the Innate realm. Since he’s a court Tributor, he must be at the Transformation realm.’
’The black-robed man looks injured, too, but it’s clearly not that serious. He can still unleash most of his power.’
’If we really fight, I’m afraid I’m no match for him.’
So, Fang Yue pragmatically chose to flee.
’Besides, I already looted King Changping. I haven’t come out of this at a loss.’
Seeing Fang Yue turn and flee, the black-robed man didn’t give immediate chase. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to; his injuries prevented him from moving at full speed. He could only watch helplessly as Fang Yue’s figure gradually vanished from sight.
"Damn you, boy! How dare you be so arrogant!" the black-robed man snarled through gritted teeth, his rage difficult to quell.
He knew that for Fang Yue to have killed the rebel, King Changping, so easily, his power must be considerable.
Furthermore, Fang Yue’s attitude made the situation feel incredibly tricky. The boy wasn’t just powerful; he was ruthless and completely unpredictable.
The black-robed man took a deep breath, trying to calm his inner rage.
He knew the most important thing now was to check King Changping’s body and see if *that item* was still there.
The black-robed man crouched down to examine King Changping’s body.
He searched King Changping’s body meticulously, trying to find that important item.
However, after a thorough search, he found that the item had vanished.
"Damn it!"
The black-robed man cursed under his breath, his anger flaring.
He knew that losing this item was a massive blow, one that might even affect his standing in the imperial court.
The black-robed man looked up, his gaze fixed on the direction in which Fang Yue had vanished. His eyes glinted with cold, murderous intent.
He knew that Fang Yue had not only killed King Changping but had also taken that crucial item. This pushed his hatred for the boy to its absolute peak.
"Boy, do you really think you can escape my grasp? I’ll show you the consequences of offending a Tributor of the imperial court!" the black-robed man snarled.
However, Fang Yue was oblivious to the black-robed man’s thoughts. He was already far from the battlefield, using all his strength to escape.
His speed was incredible, his figure weaving through the trees like a ghost.
Fang Yue knew that while he had succeeded in killing King Changping, he had also stirred up a hornet’s nest.
That black-robed man’s power was unfathomable, and he was a Tributor of the court. If he were caught, his chances of survival would be slim.
Therefore, he had to flee this place as quickly as possible and get far away from all this trouble.
’As for that item... I have no idea what it is, but since it came from King Changping, it can’t be anything ordinary.’
Fang Yue continued to flee, already planning his next move.
~~~~~~~
Three days later, Fang Yue arrived in a county town within Liangzhou Prefecture.
Upon entering the county seat, Fang Yue was immediately struck by the lively, bustling atmosphere. Shops lined both sides of the street, their dazzling arrays of goods attracting crowds of residents who stopped to browse and purchase.
The calls of street vendors and the chatter of pedestrians wove together into a vivid tapestry of daily life.
’I didn’t expect this place to be right next to Guangfeng Prefecture.’
The flames of war were spreading across Guangfeng Prefecture, and the tension there had reached a breaking point.
Yet here in the neighboring Liangzhou Prefecture, life seemed completely unaffected. It was still bustling and prosperous, with people living and working in peace.
’Then again, it made sense. The Great Li Dynasty was vast, with countless prefectures.’
’Outside of the area surrounding the Capital City, the prefectures were often separated by thousands of miles.’
’Adjacent prefectures like Guangfeng and Liangzhou were already considered relatively close.’
’But even so, given the poor transportation of the era, the influence neighboring prefectures had on each other was actually quite limited.’
’Besides, even though war was raging in Guangfeng, with various Rebel Kings in revolt and the imperial army moving to suppress them, the actual fighting was mostly confined within Guangfeng’s borders.’
’A neighboring prefecture like Liangzhou wouldn’t be too heavily affected.’
’Of course, Liangzhou Prefecture had surely tightened its security to prevent the war in Guangfeng from spilling over.’
Fang Yue walked down the street, taking in the prosperity and liveliness of the county seat.
His gaze swept the surroundings, finally landing on an inn named "Yuelai Inn."
