Chapter 218: What?Girl pls!
SONIA’S POV
"Wait, you’re actually serious? You’re not pulling my legs or anything?" I turned around, searching for nothing in particular as the words sank in.
The room suddenly felt smaller, the walls closing in as my mind struggled to process what Ivy had just said. My heart hammered in my chest, each beat loud in my ears.
"This is not a prank, is it? How’s Ramon your brother?" I asked, totally confused. My voice came out higher than usual, laced with disbelief as I stared at her, searching her face for any sign that this was some elaborate joke.
"I know it seems hard to comprehend, but I’ve always wanted to tell you. I just never found the right time. It was either too soon, and when it wasn’t, I felt there were more important things to worry about," Ivy explained. Her eyes were steady, sincere, but there was a hint of nervousness in the way she twisted her fingers together in her lap.
I understood her explanation, but it did nothing to make me feel less shocked. The revelation hung in the air between us, heavy and impossible to ignore.
Ramon—the man who had torn my world apart was her brother. The thought made my stomach twist, a mix of confusion and a strange, reluctant understanding dawning.
"Why are you disguised as a maid then?" I blurted before I could stop myself. The question tumbled out, fueled by the whirlwind in my head as I tried to piece together the fragments of what I knew about her.
"Well, it was my choice. I just didn’t want all of the attention that came with being the sister of the alpha. I guess you could say I wanted to navigate life as me, and not as my title dictated." She shrugged, her shoulders rising and falling in a casual motion that didn’t quite hide the weight behind her words.
I was hella impressed by that, but I couldn’t totally wrap my head around it. The courage it must have taken to step away from the power and privilege, to choose anonymity in a world where titles defined everything, it spoke volumes about the woman standing before me.
"Wow," I said, as my head spun with this new information I was getting. The room felt warmer suddenly, the air thicker as I processed the implications.
"What is it?" She asked. "Are you mad at me?" She followed up before I could answer, her eyes searching mine with genuine concern.
"No, I’m not mad at you. In fact, I’m happy for you. If anyone deserves to be royalty, it’s you." The words came from a place of sincerity, even as my mind continued to reel. Ivy had always carried herself with quiet strength, and now it made even more sense.
"Hey, let’s not start dashing out titles please. Also, you never answered my question. Why did you tell Ramon you wanted nothing to do with me?"
"Ugh!" I stomped a foot in irritation, the sound muffled against the rug. "I did not tell him that! I just wanted him to leave me alone, after finding out about his true intentions for me. I thought naturally, I’d never see anyone from Bloodmoon again, so why bother falling for the trick he tried to use on me?"
"Sonia, I’m not here because of my brother. I’m not even trying to support him. But—"
"Why, and how are you here then, Ivy?" I asked, interrupting her. The questions poured out, my curiosity overriding everything else as I stepped closer. "My brother, Jed, told me I’d be getting a surprise. Were you the surprise?" I asked, my voice rising with a mix of hope and confusion.
"I’m glad you’re getting more direct, and courageous with your curiosity. And to answer your questions, I think I’m the surprise."
"But why you?"
"Well, I’ve been looking for a way to get to you for weeks. When I stumbled on your brother at the pack of the girl he got pregnant, I knew it was fated. I met up with him, and we discussed seeing you. He reached out to me just yesterday, and told me I’d have a chance to see you today, and if I wanted to take it. I couldn’t pass up on that opportunity, of course."
"You know the girl he got pregnant?"
"Of course I do!" She smiled fondly. "We all used to play together as kids. With that witch, Lorena too."
"Wow. What’s she like?" I asked, forgetting my own problems for a moment as curiosity took over.
"She’s amazing. It doesn’t even matter that she’s older than him. I think they’re perfect for each other."
I couldn’t stop grinning. I just wanted Jed to be happy. He helped me so much, even when I least expected that kind of graciousness from him. The thought of him finding his own joy, of building something real despite the chaos of our family, warmed me from the inside.
He deserved it.
"So he didn’t tell you why I wanted to leave Silverpaw?" I continued in the spirit of truth, my voice softer now as I sat on the edge of the bed.
"Not really. I didn’t care either way. I would have taken any opportunity to see you. To ascertain you’re fine. My brother is a fool, Sonia. He can’t see you’re perfect for him, but he will. He will soon."
"Before or after he makes Lorena his Luna?"
She was going to respond, when I shook my head.
"There’s no point in defending him. I don’t even care. All I want is to be happy. For me, and my child."
"And you’ll be happy because you de—" she paused, and really looked at me. Her eyes widened, scanning my face and then dropping to my stomach as realization dawned. "What did you just say?" She asked after a few seconds had passed, her voice barely above a whisper.
"I said I want to be happy for me and my child."
"You’re— you’re preg-nant?" She stuttered, her hand flying to her mouth as her eyes filled with a mix of shock and joy.
"I am," I replied, my eyes getting teary as the words hung between us. Saying it out loud to someone who cared made it feel more real, more overwhelming.
"You’re pregnant?" She screamed, and pulled me in for a hug. Her arms wrapped around me tightly, the embrace warm and fierce, rocking me gently as if I were something precious. The scent of her, familiar and comforting, brought fresh tears to my eyes.
I laughed as she rocked me back and forth, before pulling me behind so she could properly scrutinize me with her eyes. Her hands rested on my shoulders, her gaze dropping to my belly again with wonder.
"I knew something was different about you, but I just couldn’t figure out what it was. Wow!"
"I just found out myself, and I’m so scared, Ivy. I don’t know what to do. Do you see why I needed to leave Silverpaw? It’s bad enough my father wants me to marry Alpha Liam. Imagine he finds out I’m carrying the baby of the person he hates most in the world?"
The thought alone made her shiver, and so did Ivy. The fear was real, a cold knot in my stomach as I imagined my father’s rage, Wolf’s fury, the way the entire pack would turn against me.
"I don’t care about your father, or my brother. What’s most important is you, and ensuring you have a seamless pregnancy. I’m going to find a way to be here more often. You’re not going to be lonely. Not on my watch, okay?"
"Oh, Ivy. Thank you for not making me tell Ramon. I can’t tell him, I hope you understand?" My voice cracked slightly, the vulnerability of the confession making my hands shake as I gripped hers.
"That’s your call to make, Sonia. Whatever you choose to do, I totally respect your decisions." Her eyes were steady, full of unwavering support that made my chest loosen just a fraction.
"Why are you so amazing?" I asked, staring at her with nothing but pure adoration. The tears spilled over now, hot against my cheeks as I squeezed her hands tighter.
"Because you deserve everything good. And I hope you end up in my family for real. Wouldn’t it be cool to be my sister-in-law?" She raised a hopeful brow, her smile teasing but warm.
"Ivy!"
"Fine, I’m sorry!" She laughed, the sound bright and freeing in the quiet room.
"It’s alright. I guess you want what you want."
Her face grew sober, and once more, my interest was piqued. The shift in her expression made my stomach flutter with anticipation.
"What is it now?" I asked, my voice softer as I searched her face.
"I have something else to tell you, but I need you to promise you won’t judge me for not telling you sooner."
"I won’t," I said right after taking a deep breath, bracing myself for whatever came next.
"It’s not just that Ramon is my brother. Blane is my mate."
"What?!"
And as if a gate was opened, I was transported into that night at the forest.
