Chapter 74
Yao Xin immediately said, "Mom, you're saying Xu Bin wants to set up equipment, but our house is full of stuff. Even if I wanted to move, there wouldn't be enough space."
"Exactly, Mom, our house is too cluttered," Yao Nan agreed.
Yao Nan continued, "Look at how spacious your room is. You've turned the three upstairs rooms into storage. Those old things are starting to smell. Can't you just throw them out?"
The sisters were united in their complaint about Shen Ruyu's excessive frugality.
Shen Ruyu wasn't particularly tidy herself; most of the housework fell on Yao Nan, and Yao Le'er helped out during holidays.
Over the years, the house had filled up with what the sisters considered useless junk. Three rooms were almost entirely taken over by these items. They joked that if Shen Ruyu passed away, the house would suddenly gain an extra twenty square meters.
The items were a mix of old books, usable but outdated furniture, and childhood mementos like clothes and cribs. The sisters hated this clutter and would have thrown it all out if not for their mother's insistence.
"And that bed!" Yao Xin exclaimed, "It's an old bed someone gave us. The mattress is moldy and smells terrible..."
"Our room has a few big boxes that smell even worse. I don't even know what's in them," Yao Nan added, seizing the opportunity to complain.
Yao Nan went on, "Our bed is falling apart. It was second-hand to begin with, and now the corner is broken, making it unstable. Every time we move, it creaks."
Shen Ruyu glanced at Xu Bin, her cheeks flushing slightly. "Son-in-law, is your bed really that bad?"
