Chapter 411 - 20: Slimes Can Be Very Powerful!
Lin Yu let out a loud laugh. His consciousness then drifted over Als Territory. In a forest on the outskirts, he saw the ground littered with bodies, along with several of his plantoid heroes.
"What happened?"
Lin Yu’s voice echoed in the minds of the plantoid heroes.
"My Lord, one of the other lords tried to leave the territory with his people. We stopped him, but he tried to force his way out and attacked us."
"They had the advantage in numbers, so we couldn’t afford to hold back. We accidentally killed him in the process."
Hearing the plantoid’s explanation, Lin Yu consoled them, "It’s not your fault. He was courting death, so he got what he deserved. It’s a shame he didn’t die in front of everyone else—the effect would have been better—but it’s not a big deal."
"I’ll have someone come by later to transport these bodies back to Als. Just make sure you don’t eat them!"
"Rest assured, my Lord! We will guard these bodies well!"
Afterward, Lin Yu instructed Al to send men to retrieve the bodies, bring them back to Als, and hang them from the city walls as a warning to the other lords. Then, he withdrew his attention.
’Ha! I finally leveled up! Let’s see what I got from this upgrade!’
Lin Yu then focused on the information coming from the system attached to his soul.
[Please select one of the following three rewards for leveling up your Lord profession:]
[1. Random Lord Skill Level +1]
[2. Random Lord Skill +1]
[3. Random Talent Level +1]
Lin Yu’s eyes went wide. ’I can even increase a talent’s level?’
’Isn’t my only talent "Enlightenment"? It’s Level 1 right now. What would it become if I leveled it up?’
With a flicker of intent, Lin Yu was about to choose the talent level-up reward.
’Wait, what’s this?’
His peripheral awareness scanned his attribute panel in the system, and he noticed that the talent section listed more than just "Enlightenment."
’???’
’Damn it, why is that counted as a talent?’
For a moment, Lin Yu regretted his past decision to use "Enlightenment" on himself.
’Then again,’ he thought, ’without the original "Enlightenment" talent, the World Tree might have been lost!’
’It’s a shame. I should have just gotten a temporary luck buff. Why did my overwhelming good fortune have to leave behind something so useless?’
Lin Yu selectively forgot the joy he had felt when he first acquired this luck-enhancing talent.
’Now the [Random Talent Level +1] option has lost all its appeal!’ Lin Yu had no doubt that if he picked it, the talent that got the +1 level would be "Luck Increase II."
’The boost from "Luck Increase II" only seemed to give me slightly better luck in lotteries. I can’t see any real, tangible effects. How much better could it possibly get with just one more level?’
In comparison, [Random Lord Skill Level +1] and [Random Lord Skill +1] were also viable options.
Choosing [Random Lord Skill Level +1] meant a chance to upgrade either "Soul Clone II" or "Genesis." Both were excellent skills.
"Genesis," in particular, was a Mythic-grade skill that allowed Lin Yu to create a pocket dimension, gain control over it, and draw power from it in return.
The only downside was its immense energy cost. The dimension it created was tiny, and the power he received back was minimal.
Even with a level-up, he suspected his own energy reserves wouldn’t be enough to significantly improve its effect. In fact, Lin Yu even worried that enhancing "Genesis" might increase its energy consumption to the point where he could only create an even smaller dimension.
The best time to upgrade that skill would be after his own tier had increased, when he could actually afford the massive energy cost of "Genesis."
Choosing [Random Lord Skill +1] was a pure gamble. What skill he got would depend entirely on his luck.
’Luck... fortune...’ he mused. ’It’s intangible, and you can’t really see its effects, but it’s actually quite powerful. The fact that I randomly got a skill like "Genesis" must mean my luck is pretty good, right...?’
"System, I choose [Talent Level +1]."
[Congratulations! Your talent, Luck Increase II, has leveled up!]
[Your talent, Luck Increase II, has become Luck Increase III!]
[Luck Increase III]: Increases your luck by 50% from its base value.
After this upgrade, the description for the Luck Increase talent was no longer vague. He could finally see the concrete numbers.
The effect was excellent. It enhanced his existing luck, making a good thing even better.
If he were naturally a person of astonishing luck, this talent’s effect would be incredible.
Unfortunately, judging by his past lottery draws, his natural luck wasn’t that great—he was average at best.
With this talent, the increase wasn’t massive, but it did add a new buff to his status: Lucky.
[Lucky]: Your luck is greater than that of an ordinary person. When you encounter situations, events will tend to shift slightly in your favor.
’Not bad at all,’ he thought. ’I guess this is the system’s way of certifying that my luck is officially decent now.’
And then there was an even more important matter. After leveling up, Lin Yu had gained two more uses of "Enlightenment." Keeping one in reserve, he could now use "Enlightenment" again.
As for who he would use "Enlightenment" on this time, Lin Yu already had someone in mind.
The Gluttonous Slime!
