My Overpowered Bunny Girls

Chapter 188: Heart of the Deep (1)

The three Tide Crystals hummed in Nathan’s grip, their surfaces vibrating with a pale, fierce blue light that physically pushed back the suffocating green corruption saturating the sea.

Coral navigated their battered skiff toward the Leviathan’s monolithic bulk—steering for a specific coordinate where the abyssal water ran clearer and the necrotic rot felt marginally thinner. The god-beast’s flank rose out of the ocean before them like a sheer cliff face of ancient, barnacled flesh and calcified coral. Its skin was deeply scarred, weeping sickly green sap where the Shepherd’s parasitic seed had violently taken root.

"This is the fracture," Coral said quietly, her webbed hands tight on the rudder. "The corruption is weakest here. The crystals should be able to pry the wound open."

Nathan knelt on the salt-slicked deck and arranged the three Tide Crystals into a perfect triangle. VWOOOM-THUM. The artifacts resonated instantly. A localized circuit of blinding blue light snapped between them, forming a shimmering, geometric seal. The turbulent water surrounding the skiff instantly stilled, flat as glass. The mutated Deep Ones that had been aggressively circling the hull let out high, vibrating hisses and violently recoiled into the shadows.

Elder Nami’s voice echoed from the spiraled communication shell resting on the bench. "The resonance will carve a path directly into the Leviathan’s anatomy. Inside, you will locate the parasite at his heart. Excise the seed, and the World will naturally purge the rot. Fail, and the overgrowth will digest you all."

"No pressure," Dillon muttered, his grip white-knuckled around his katana.

Nathan stood, looking at the battered, resilient faces of his party. "We’ve bled for every inch of this World. We finish it right here. Together."

The blue light on the deck flared white-hot.

Before the bow of the skiff, the ocean violently parted. The water sheared away to reveal a massive, weeping laceration in the Leviathan’s side—a cavernous biological opening that pulsed with a nauseating, radioactive green light. It was easily wide enough to swim through.

"Move," Nathan ordered.

SPLASH-SPLASH-SPLASH.

The party dove over the gunwales into the freezing sea. The bio-luminescent breath-charms at their throats activated instantly, feeding them oxygen as they kicked hard toward the wound. The green light intensified with every yard, and Nathan physically felt the corruption pressing against his skin—a cold, oily, invasive pressure that actively tried to seep through his pores and into his mind.

They crossed the threshold, swimming directly into the Leviathan’s body.

The interior was a masterclass in biological horror.

Ancient, muscular flesh, parasitic vines, and jagged coral were violently braided together in grotesque, asymmetrical patterns. The cavernous arterial walls pulsed with a heavy, wet rhythm—THWUMP-SQUELCH, THWUMP-SQUELCH—that was neither a heartbeat nor a breath, but something fundamentally wrong. Suffocating green light flooded the space, and the shadows clinging to the tissue moved in ways that defied physics, making the hair on Nathan’s arms stand on end.

’Keep moving,’ Nathan commanded, his voice projecting clearly through the neural link. ’The seed is anchored at the heart.’

They kicked deeper into the abyss. The water grew thicker, saturated with the parasite’s sap, and the psychic whispers began.

Nathan felt it first. The Pale Shepherd’s voice didn’t just echo off the fleshy walls or ripple through the water; it bypassed his eardrums entirely, scraping directly against the inside of his skull.

"You could be so much more, little rabbit king. I could gift you a throne forged from absolute power. All you have to do is let them drown. The summons. The party. The dead weight. Let them sink, and you will rise."

Nathan locked his jaw, his eyes blazing with absolute clarity. "You already pitched this to me. My answer hasn’t changed."

Failing to breach his core, the whispers fractured, slithering outward to target the rest of the vanguard.

Mirko suddenly stopped swimming. Her vision warped, showing her own body moving like a hollow, mindless marionette, her will entirely erased as she drove Dragon’s Fang through Nathan’s chest. She saw his face twisting in absolute betrayal. For a terrifying fraction of a second, she hesitated.

Then, her pink eyes burned through the illusion. She raised Dragon’s Fang high, the wyrm-fire igniting the dark water. "Hmph! I am no one’s puppet! I am Mirko, the first sworn Knight of Nathan Cross! And I carve my own path!"

Kuro drifted to a halt as the shadows wrapped around her. She saw herself bleeding out, utterly alone in the dark. She watched the Shepherd’s blinding light consume her, erasing the souls of her people one by one until nothing remained. The shadow-forged daggers felt like lead in her hands.

But she gripped the hilts tighter, her mental projection slicing through the psychic static like a scalpel. ’I am not alone anymore. That is the difference.’

Shiro seized up, her golden eyes widening. Looming in the water before her was the massive, spectral visage of Vorlagrath. The Last King stared down at her, his draconic eyes heavy with profound disappointment. "You carry the last of my fire, and you waste it to warm a world that does not belong to you."

Shiro’s dragon-scale tattoos ignited with blinding, thermal heat, boiling the water around her. "I carry your legacy! And my choices are my own!"

Garrett froze, his eyes locked on a phantom horror. He saw his family screaming, being dragged beneath the waves by mutated horrors while his boots were cemented to the floor. He saw Red dissolving into useless, fading light. He saw himself failing to be the shield, over and over again. He closed his eyes, gripped Volcan’s heavy haft with both hands, and forced his legs to kick. "I’ve lived this nightmare already. I will not break, not now!."

Dillon stared blankly into the green light, hearing his father’s cold, dismissive laughter echoing in his ears. "You’ll never be enough. You are a spark trying to be a storm." The katana in his grip erupted with jagged, violent electricity as cloudy wrapped around him assuringly. "Watch me."
