Chapter 86: Idle Missions

Early the next morning.

Natsuki and Nonō arrived at the First Training Ground.

This was the first gathering of their shinobi team, or rather, Team One.

Because they were far too familiar with each other, yesterday's first meeting had been directly skipped by Tsunade.

"You look a little worried."

Natsuki turned to look at Nonō.

Her small face had a little less gentleness than usual and looked tense.

"I'm afraid I'll drag you down."

Nonō hesitated for a moment before saying what was on her mind.

"Why would you think that?"

Natsuki smiled and said, "Among people our age, no one is better at medical ninjutsu than you."

"I only know medical ninjutsu."

Nonō lowered her head and said, "If a battle happens, I'll have to rely on you to protect me."

Natsuki paused slightly.

This was indeed the awkward situation medical shinobi faced in a shinobi team.

Although medical shinobi were very important, it was also true that they lacked combat ability.

If the other two teammates were not strong enough, then adding a medical shinobi teammate would instead lower the overall strength of the shinobi team.

Thinking about it carefully, this was probably also one of the reasons why Tsunade's proposal in the original work to have every team fixed with a medical shinobi was rejected.

"Have you forgotten who your Sensei is now?"

Natsuki reminded her, "You can ask Tsunade-sensei to teach you taijutsu later."

Although Tsunade had already taught Nonō quite a bit of medical ninjutsu, that had been in the medical shinobi training class.

Even if both were teachers, a team leader and a teacher from the medical shinobi training class were completely different concepts.

Now it was different. Yesterday, Tsunade had already clearly said that Nonō was her student.

Nonō was stunned at first, then a smile appeared on her face.

Tsunade was a rare medical shinobi with combat ability.

As her student, she could also learn taijutsu from her. When the time came, she would not make things difficult for Natsuki and Nawaki.

"You just think too much."

Natsuki stroked her hair and said.

Nonō lowered her head and let him do as he pleased.

"Natsuki! Nonō!"

Not long after, Nawaki's energetic voice rang out.

Tsunade had come with him.

Kushina did not come.

She was not a member of Team One, and on top of that, Mito's condition had worsened, so she had to make full use of her time.

Natsuki estimated that Mito would have a hard time making it through this year.

"Sensei."

After greeting her, Nonō immediately got to the main point. "I want to learn taijutsu."

"Even if you didn't bring it up, I would have made you learn it."

Tsunade was stunned for a moment, then smiled.

"I feel like your team is almost frighteningly well-rounded!"

When Nawaki heard this, he immediately said, "We have everything we need."

There was no need to say much about combat and medical support.

For sensing, there were his and Natsuki's summoned beasts.

Of course, what he did not know was that Natsuki also had Clairvoyance and There Is Only One Truth.

For control, Natsuki knew two genjutsu and also had the Logia-type Smoke-Smoke Fruit.

Once Nonō learned taijutsu, the last weakness would also be filled.

"The biggest opening in your team is your reckless personality."

Tsunade rolled her eyes at him and said.

Nawaki laughed awkwardly, but he had no way to refute it.

"All right. Since everyone is here, we'll begin Team One's first mission."

Tsunade clapped her hands and said.

"What rank is the mission?"

Nawaki immediately asked, "A-rank? Or S-rank?"

"It's D-rank."

Tsunade answered.

"Huh?"

Nawaki widened his eyes and asked, "With our strength, do we still need to do D-rank missions?"

It had to be known that before they graduated, they had already followed Orochimaru and Tsunade on many high-level missions.

Now that they had graduated, they were instead doing low-level missions. Then what was the point of graduating?

"What?"

Tsunade asked back, "You don't want to take part in the Chunin Exams?"

"What do D-rank missions have to do with the Chunin Exams?"

Nawaki froze and asked.

"Natsuki, you explain."

Tsunade did not answer directly and instead called on Natsuki.

"The prerequisite for participating in the Chunin Exams is completing enough missions."

Natsuki slowly said, "That includes quite a few low-level missions."

"Why is there a rule like that?"

Nawaki's mouth twitched as he asked.

"As a shinobi, you can't be picky. No matter what kind of mission it is, once you accept it, you must complete it seriously."

Tsunade raised her hand and flicked his forehead, then asked, "Understand?"

"Yes, Sis."

Nawaki answered listlessly.

"I heard from Sensei that there will be a Chunin Exam this year."

Tsunade reminded him, "If you don't actively do missions, you won't be able to participate when the time comes."

"Really?"

Nawaki immediately perked up.

"Mm."

Tsunade nodded and said, "It's related to the war with Amegakure. Quite a few Genin have already met the requirements for promotion."

"Logically speaking, isn't the middle of a war even less suitable for holding the Chunin Exams?"

Nawaki asked in confusion.

"That's because the war hasn't reached its most intense stage yet."

Tsunade said as she walked, "As long as it doesn't affect the war, holding a Chunin Exam is relatively suitable."

Natsuki suddenly thought of the Chunin Exams in the original work, where Sarutobi Asuma, Might Guy, and the others participated.

The timing was also right before the most intense year of the Third Shinobi World War.

"We're here. Your first mission is to clean the garbage from the river."

Tsunade stopped and said.

"Do we have to clean the whole river?"

Nawaki felt a headache coming on.

"Can we use Water Release?"

Natsuki asked thoughtfully.

"You're the clever one."

Tsunade nodded and said, "Both of you know Water Release, so this mission can be considered a kind of training for you."

Although it was a D-rank mission, she would not waste Natsuki and the others' time for nothing.

Nawaki reacted and began forming hand seals.

Under his control, the surface of the river began to surge. Before long, a lot of garbage floated up.

"Natsuki, you and Nawaki do the mission together."

Tsunade instructed, "Nonō, I'll teach you taijutsu now."

"Yes, Tsunade-sensei."

Natsuki answered, then formed hand seals and used Water Release to clean the river.

Nonō followed Tsunade to an open space on the other side and began learning taijutsu.

The sun set in the west.

Natsuki and Nawaki completed the mission of cleaning the river.

"How does it feel?"

Tsunade asked with a smile.

"Tiring."

Nawaki took a breath and said.

Although there had been no battle, using Water Release for an entire day was still a great burden for him.

"Don't look down on low-level missions."

Tsunade said earnestly, "Every mission has meaning."

Nawaki wanted to say something but stopped.

Tsunade knew he had not understood yet, so she looked at Natsuki.

"The main purpose of doing low-level missions is to interact with the villagers, help them, and understand them."

Natsuki thought for a moment and said, "Only that way can you gain the villagers' approval and become Hokage."

"No wonder Sensei often says you have a very good understanding of the Will of Fire."

Tsunade was very satisfied and said, "You really are outstanding."

Natsuki secretly thought that there was no point in helping troublesome Konoha villagers.

Although becoming Hokage required a vote from the villagers, it was actually not that important.

The real authority was still in the hands of the current Hokage.

For example, the reason Hiruzen became Hokage was because Senju Tobirama appointed him in a moment of crisis. There had been no villager voting stage at all.

Of course, in front of Tsunade, he definitely had to say something nice.

"So that's how it is?"

Nawaki scratched his head.

"You all worked hard today. Go back and rest properly. We'll do another mission the day after tomorrow."

Tsunade thought for a moment and said.

Although she called it rest, what she was actually giving them was training time.

"Tsunade-sensei, can we accept a mission to the Land of Iron next time?"

Natsuki directly stated his goal. "I want to use Hanzō's swordsmanship to exchange for Mifune's swordsmanship."

"That idea of yours is quite unique."

Tsunade could not help laughing.

She was not surprised that Natsuki wanted Mifune's swordsmanship.

Because he had always been learning new swordsmanship.

Before this, he had even asked her to teach him Senju-style swordsmanship.

"Mifune should agree. After all, he just lost to Hanzō, so he must want revenge."

Tsunade nodded and said, "For the next mission, we'll go to the Land of Iron."

"Thank you, Tsunade-sensei."

Natsuki let out a sigh of relief when he heard that.

Fortunately, his usual performance had been good enough, so Tsunade agreed without thinking too much about it.

The day after tomorrow.

Natsuki and Nonō arrived at the entrance of Konoha at the appointed time.

But the entrance was livelier than they had expected.

Five shinobi teams were gathering there, and the person in charge was Hatake Sakumo.

"Sakumo-sama."

Natsuki thought for a moment, then walked forward and greeted him.

"Natsuki, why are you here?"

Sakumo asked in confusion, "I remember that your name wasn't on the list given by Hokage-sama."

The reason he asked this was because Natsuki possessed strength comparable to a Jonin and was indeed qualified to follow him on this mission.

"I'm here waiting for Tsunade-sensei."

Natsuki explained, "We're going out to do a mission."

"Then it seems I misunderstood."

Sakumo paused and said, "It's about time. I'll be leaving first. We'll talk next time if there's a chance."

After saying that, he led the five shinobi teams and quickly left Konoha.

"The puppet corps from Sunagakure suddenly disappeared not long ago."

Tsunade walked forward and said, "Sensei felt there was something suspicious about it, so he sent Sakumo to check the situation."

Natsuki's heart stirred, and he thought of something.

During the Second Shinobi World War, the war between Sunagakure and Konoha had two especially famous battles.

Aside from the battle of antidotes and poisons between Tsunade and Chiyo, there was also Hatake Sakumo severely damaging Sunagakure's puppet corps.

At the time, the people in charge of the puppet corps were Chiyo's son and daughter-in-law, who were also Sasori's parents.

In the end, they died at Sakumo's hands.

Could it be this time?

Natsuki was not sure.

But he did want to know whether fighting Sunagakure's puppet corps could trigger a new character template.

After all, among various works, there were quite a few characters who controlled puppets or dolls.

As Tsunade walked, she explained this mission.

The mission rank was C-rank, and the mission content was to retrieve a blade forged in the Land of Iron for the client.

Although Nawaki kept clamoring about wanting to encounter enemies, it was obvious that this kind of mission would not have any enemies.

The group arrived smoothly at the Land of Iron. Natsuki also met Mifune and completed the exchange of swordsmanship.
