Chapter 72: Nonō’s First Mission
After Natsuki left the Ninja Academy, he went to Konoha Hospital.
Before he got close, he saw Nonō standing at the hospital entrance.
"Did class end early today?"
Natsuki walked up to her, reached out, pinched her cheek, and asked.
"I finished today's lesson ahead of time."
Nonō answered softly.
"That's amazing."
Natsuki said with a smile, "Tomorrow is summer vacation. Tsunade-sensei said you'll come with us to the Land of Iron."
"I can go too?"
Nonō's gentle expression changed, and surprise appeared on her face.
Natsuki explained, "Tsunade-sensei said your strength is already comparable to a medical Genin, so you can go out on missions to gain experience."
Nonō nodded heavily, the corners of her mouth rising. She looked very happy.
She had wanted to go on missions with Natsuki for a long time, but she had never had the chance, or rather, she had not been allowed to.
"This is your first time going out on a mission, so I'll tell you some things to pay attention to."
Natsuki said as he walked, "First, you have to bring enough bento. During a mission, you aren't allowed to start a fire and cook."
Nonō followed behind him and listened very seriously.
After arriving at the Konoha Orphanage, Natsuki pulled her into the kitchen.
The Land of Iron was northeast of the Land of Fire. At a ninja's normal pace, the journey would take one to two days.
That meant they would need between three and six bento.
Considering that aside from Tsunade, they were all children and would not be that fast, he prepared according to a two-day journey.
"Nonō."
Natsuki opened the refrigerator and asked, "What do you want to eat on the road?"
"Anything is fine."
Nonō said seriously, "Everything you make is delicious."
"Then I'll make a few more things."
Natsuki thought for a moment, then said, "Let's start with three-color dango."
Three-color dango was glutinous rice dumplings.
In the original story, it was the favorite of Mitarashi Anko and Uchiha Itachi.
Nonō stood to the side, watching Natsuki's movements.
It was only when the tempting aroma spread out that she subconsciously licked her lips.
"Try it."
Natsuki handed her a glutinous rice dumpling.
Nonō immediately opened her mouth and took a bite.
After chewing a few times, a trace of enjoyment appeared on her fair and tender face.
"It's delicious."
After Nonō finished speaking, she bit into the remaining glutinous rice dumpling.
"It's all covered in your saliva."
Natsuki glanced at his fingers and teased her.
When Nonō heard that, she gave him a smile.
She really was cute.
Natsuki turned around and continued cooking.
Considering Tsunade, Nawaki, and Minato, who would be freeloading meals, he made a few extra portions.
The next day.
After breakfast, Natsuki and Nonō arrived at Konoha's village entrance.
Tsunade, Nawaki, and Minato had already arrived in advance, but Kushina was not there.
Her special identity made it difficult for her to go out, especially since she had been kidnapped before.
Of course, the most important reason was that Mito's lifespan was nearing its end, so Kushina had to seize the time to learn fūinjutsu.
"Let's go."
After Tsunade finished registering with Konoha's gatekeepers, she turned and walked outside.
Anyone leaving the village needed to register, and she was no exception.
Natsuki glanced at Konoha's gatekeepers.
They were unfamiliar, not Kamizuki Izumo and Hagane Kotetsu from the original story.
But that was normal, they had not been born yet.
Night fell.
The group successfully arrived at the northeastern border of the Land of Fire.
"Sweet and chewy. This really is good."
Tsunade took a bite of the three-color dango and praised it.
"I don't really like sweets, but I have to say, it's pretty tasty."
Nawaki let out a breath and said.
Minato and Nonō spoke less, quietly eating their three-color dango.
"Once you're done eating, I'll explain the details of this mission."
Tsunade clapped her hands and said, "The main goal is to form an alliance with the Land of Iron."
"An alliance?"
Nawaki was stunned for a moment, then asked, "Doesn't that mean we probably won't run into any enemies on this trip to the Land of Iron?"
"Most likely not."
Tsunade answered.
"Then what's the point of this mission?"
Nawaki immediately showed a disappointed expression.
During this period, he had been learning Water Breathing, and with Samehada as well, he had always wanted to find an enemy to test himself against.
He thought there would be a chance during this mission, but who knew they were simply going to the Land of Iron to form an alliance.
"Do you know what the Land of Iron is also called?"
Tsunade knew what he was thinking and asked with a smile.
"What?"
Nawaki scratched his head and asked.
"The Land of Samurai."
Natsuki pondered for a moment before speaking.
"Correct."
Tsunade nodded and said, "Samurai value martial strength and are very willing to spar with others."
"I've heard Sensei mention that among samurai, there's a practice called dojo challenging."
Minato spoke up and said, "It means visiting well-known local samurai and sparring with them."
"Then who is the strongest in the Land of Iron?"
Nawaki asked impatiently.
"Mifune."
Tsunade paused for a moment, then said, "But you definitely aren't his opponent, so don't go looking for trouble."
"Can a samurai really be stronger than a ninja?"
Nawaki asked in confusion.
"Samurai can also use chakra."
Tsunade answered, "In reality, they are ninja who use swordsmanship."
"So that's how it is."
A look of understanding appeared on Nawaki's face, and he asked again, "Is Mifune a Jonin?"
"Mifune is famous for his self-created Mifune-style swordsmanship. The defining feature of his swordsmanship is speed, so fast that ninja don't even have time to form hand seals."
Tsunade introduced, "In addition, he also has a katana called Kurosawa. It's said to be sharp enough to cut through iron like mud."
"Kurosawa? Is it famous?"
Natsuki could not help but freeze when he heard that.
He knew Mifune had a katana, but he did not know it was so famous.
"Of course it's famous."
Tsunade glanced at him and said, "Among samurai and swordsmanship-type ninja, it could be said that everyone knows of it."
Natsuki immediately thought of his Heroic Spirit Emiya Template.
Ability Three, Projection Magecraft, had the unlock condition of projecting seven famous ninja tools.
He had already projected the Sword of the Thunder God, the Kusanagi Sword, the Nuibari, the Kabutowari, and the White Light Chakra Sabre. He was only missing two more.
Judging from Tsunade's description, Kurosawa should meet the condition.
Aside from that, there was also Ability Four, Broken Phantasm, whose unlock condition was to break a famous ninja tool in battle.
Kurosawa would likely satisfy that requirement as well.
Most importantly, Mifune was a samurai from the Land of Iron, not a ninja of Konoha.
The only problem was whether Mifune would refuse to ally with Konoha if Kurosawa were broken.
Natsuki thought about it carefully and felt that he probably would not.
Judging from Mifune's performance in the original story, he could indeed be called an excellent samurai, and he had a strong samurai spirit.
"I want to challenge Mifune."
Natsuki came back to his senses and said.
"With your strength, you can give it a try."
Tsunade nodded and did not refuse.
(To be continued.)
