Chapter 54: Killing a Jonin

After Natsuki finished off the Kirigakure Tokubetsu Jonin, he nodded to Gaku and used Shadow Assassin again.

In the heat of battle, it was not the time for conversation.

He immediately went to find his next target.

Under the cover of night, combined with the unpredictability of Shadow Assassin, it was difficult for any ninja other than a Jonin to react in time.

However, after killing three Tokubetsu Jonin and five Chunin in succession, Natsuki finally drew attention.

"Brat!"

The sound of a biting wind whistled.

Natsuki, who had just deactivated Shadow Assassin and was about to finish off a Kumogakure Chunin in front of him, immediately sensed danger.

Water Breathing, Second Form: Water Wheel!

His body spun, and he aimed the Sword of the Thunder God behind him for a spinning slash.

Clang!

The Sword of the Thunder God struck a large blade that resembled an axe.

Natsuki felt a shock run through his body and could not help but retreat.

"It seems my luck is good."

The owner of the large blade was a young ninja wearing a ninja hat.

Seeing Natsuki block his strike, his surprise quickly turned into excitement.

Snuffing out a promising ninja from an enemy village was something worth celebrating.

Natsuki recognized him at a glance.

He was one of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist, Akebino Jinin.

His ninja sword was called Kabutowari. Although it was called a sword, it was actually a combination of an axe and a hammer.

"Die!"

Jinin grinned and raised the hammer in his right hand.

As the hammer struck the back of his axe, an overwhelming force was transmitted through the blade toward Natsuki.

Movement-Type Magic: Weight Reduction!

Natsuki chose not to face him head-on and pushed his speed to the limit in an instant.

He retracted the Sword of the Thunder God and retreated like a ghost.

The force missed its mark, making Jinin feel momentarily off-balance.

But as a Jonin, his speed was not inferior to Natsuki's at all.

He stomped hard on the ground, and as the earth cracked, he chased after him.

Before even getting close to Natsuki, he threw his axe.

The end of the axe was connected to his hammer by a chain.

Water Breathing, Fourth Form: Striking Tide!

Natsuki gripped the Sword of the Thunder God with both hands and swung a strike capable of crushing tides head-on.

The axe was struck by the Sword of the Thunder God and immediately flew back.

"What an impressive brat!"

Seeing this, Jinin became even more excited.

Given Natsuki's age and strength, he was undoubtedly one of Konoha's future elites.

Killing him would be like cutting down one of Konoha's future pillars.

Jinin reacted quickly and caught the axe.

With a flick of his wrist, he neutralized the momentum.

At the same time, he used the Body Flicker Technique to appear right in front of Natsuki.

The axe sliced through the air, aimed directly at his head.

Projection Magecraft!

A thick black pot appeared in front of Natsuki.

Jinin sneered and smashed his hammer onto the back of the axe blade.

The projected black pot was instantly split in two.

But Natsuki, who had been behind the pot, had already vanished.

Jinin immediately looked at the ground and indeed saw a shadow.

Without a word, he threw both the axe and the hammer downward.

Boom!

The ground cracked and was pulverized.

Jinin blinked, only to see a sharp blade light lunging toward him.

His heart tightened, and in that critical moment, he subconsciously leaned to the left.

The blade light missed.

Natsuki appeared before him.

Jinin swung his axe without hesitation.

Natsuki secretly thought it was a pity.

His Lion Song had not worked.

This was because Jinin had already seen his Shadow Assassin and was prepared for it.

The black pot reappeared.

Natsuki took the opportunity to put some distance between himself and Jinin.

Jinin touched his right cheek, where he could still faintly feel the sting of that sharp blade light.

If it were not for his quick reflexes and his knowledge of Shadow Assassin, he would have certainly been injured.

"A kid like you is too dangerous to leave alive!"

Holding his axe, Jinin charged at Natsuki once more.

Natsuki raised the Sword of the Thunder God to meet him.

For a while, blade lights flashed everywhere.

However, Natsuki was at a clear disadvantage.

Whether in strength or speed, he was no match for Jinin.

In terms of swordsmanship, he could barely hold his own by relying on Water Breathing.

His only advantage was Shadow Assassin, which allowed him to evade several fatal moments.

But even this sole advantage did not last long.

Jinin was, after all, a Jonin.

To become a Jonin meant mastering at least two types of Release techniques.

He soon discovered the weakness of Shadow Assassin.

Jinin seized an opening and accelerated suddenly.

Reaching Natsuki, he swung the axe down with a heavy blow.

Clang!

Natsuki blocked the axe with the Sword of the Thunder God.

Jinin, unfazed, immediately let go of his weapons.

His hammer and axe flew out, and the chain connecting them pulled taut, wrapping around Natsuki like a rope.

Movement-Type Magic: Weight Reduction!

Natsuki leaped into the air, narrowly avoiding the chain.

Water Release: Water Prison Technique!

At that moment, Jinin formed hand seals and thrust his hand forward.

A surge of water quickly enveloped Natsuki.

Natsuki's body stiffened, leaving him unable to move.

"Can you still merge into shadows now?"

Jinin asked triumphantly.

He maintained the Water Prison with his right hand while swinging his left to catch the axe.

The axe fell, sending water splashing in all directions.

The first thing to shatter was the cage formed of water, and Natsuki was freed as a result.

But the axe was already upon him. He had no time to use any secret techniques or Ninjutsu, including Shadow Assassin.

A smile spread across Jinin's face.

He could already envision Natsuki's blood spraying out.

But in the next second, his axe suddenly sliced through a cloud of smoke.

"What?"

Jinin's expression froze, completely bewildered by what had happened.

Natsuki, having turned into smoke, escaped the axe in that split second and immediately reformed.

He raised his hand without hesitation.

Phantom Blow.

Jinin felt his head spin, and he froze in place.

Being a Jonin, he broke out of the daze in just an instant.

But by the time he regained consciousness, his vision was filled with blade light.

He subconsciously clutched his neck.

A torrent of blood gushed out from between his fingers.

His face was a mask of disbelief.

Having traveled the ninja world for many years, he never imagined he would die in such a manner.

His eyes remained wide as he collapsed.

Even as he lost his final spark of consciousness, he did not close his eyes.

This was what people called dying with one's eyes wide open.

Natsuki slumped to the ground, panting heavily, feeling the rush of having survived a brush with death.

As the saying goes, a battle between ninja is a battle of information.

Jinin had only prepared for Shadow Assassin, but not for his Smoke-Smoke Fruit.

Just when his opponent thought victory was certain, Natsuki used the Smoke-Smoke Fruit to turn the tables and secure the kill.
