DxD: The Holy Knight!

Chapter 84: Dulio Gesualdo

The illusion created by Yasuhiro was truly magical.

Rias and Akeno spent an entire day wandering around dorte city.

Even though they knew everything in front of them was an illusion, they could still feel the passage of time and the ambient noise of their surroundings.

If their hands had not passed right through the illusory images, they would have thought it was all real rather than false creation.

This made Rias and Akeno even more afraid of Yasuhiro and his strength.

As night slowly fell, they saw unusual sights in the sky that were impossible to see in a place like japan.

The starry sky was breathtakingly and everything was clearly laid out before their eyes.

"They are here," Rias whispered.

Rias and Akeno exchanged sharp glances.

The illusion couldn't simulate energy fluctuations, yet they could hear unmistakable rushing sounds and witness strange phenomena indicating a disturbance in dorte city.

Everything unfolded right before their eyes.

Before the enemy even arrived, everyone in the city were preparing for the battle.

Each of them was serious and seemingly sensing that the enemy before them was no ordinary foe.

Rias and Akeno exchanged a glance before stepping into the air and ascending to get a better look.

They looked at the endless darkness outside the settlement and were so shocked by the scene before them that they were rendered speechless.

A vast and endless army surged forward.

Its imposing presence made everything in its path seem completely insignificant.

"These are all holy knights" Akeno murmured in shock.

She could clearly see that the army consisted of holy knights, all dressed in an attire that blended seamlessly into the darkness.

The only distinguishing feature was a sacred emblem embroidered on their chests.

"This is the burial agency. They are even more terrifying than I imagined."

Looking at the tens of thousands of people forming the agency, Rias sighed in shock.

"Back in the underworld, the legions led by the various nobles suffered heavy losses in the great war and they were no longer able to form large armies."

They all wore expressions of fervent devotion as if they were on a pilgrimage.

These men were fearless in the face of death, advancing solely to achieve their goal.

This was undoubtedly terrifying.

If other legions were even slightly weaker in their resolve, they would easily be crushed when facing the burial agency.

"Who sent you? Does the church intend to break the ceasefire agreement and reignite a new great war?"

A bald middle aged man stood at the forefront of the city. He was the founder of the dorte clan, Shelby.

However, this maou class being had an extremely solemn expression on his face.

He recognized that this was the infamous burial agency, a group that terrified all of europe.

He still harbored a sliver of hope, attempting to use the ceasefire agreement between the three factions to force the other side to retreat.

"Shelby, stop showing off your little tricks here. You should know that the deployment of the burial agency must be an order from our saint."

"Do you really think he would be afraid of a mere devil or a war?"

At the front of the group stood a man.

"Dulio Gesualdo," Shelby trembled.

When Shelby saw the man in front of him, his expression changed drastically.

Rias and Akeno also saw his expression and were certain that this man was their target.

"He seems to be a person of the same level as Yasuhiro. So young, yet he is already a maou class."

Rias sighed in exasperation.

"We young devils are clowns compared to them."

She and Sona were already considered strong among the new gen in underworld.

Moreover, not to mention the church and their rule breaking saint who embraces darkness, even just Yasuhiro and the man in front of them were maou class beings.

"Even you have been mobilized. It seems that madman is determined to take dorte city."

Seeing Dulio, Shelby already considered retreating, knowing that the enemy was far more powerful than he could contend with.

"No, no, no," Dulio scratched his ear and said.

"Now that you have become a devil, has your mind declined?"

"It isn't just that we are determined to take dorte, we are here to execute everyone including you, Shelby."

"The underworld rescue team will arrive soon," Shelby threatened.

In response to a single gesture from Dulio, the agency received the order and dispersed, completely surrounding dorte city.

"Damn it, undo the seals!"

Knowing that this matter wouldn't end well, Shelby released the demonic seals on everyone in city and informed them of the situation.

He didn't expect them to be the main force, but at least they could serve as cannon fodder and cause some minor harassment for the agency.

"Lightning, come forth."

Dulio gently raised his right hand and looked up at the sky.

What appeared next was unbelievable to the entire city as well as to Rias and Akeno.

Dark, towering clouds, heavy with pressure covered the entire sky above dorte.

Even though Akeno and Rias couldn't use their demonic senses within the illusion, they could still see with their naked eyes the suffocating power contained within the dense clouds.

"This is lightning," Akeno whispered.

Akeno stared blankly at the energy brewing in the thick dark clouds.

Streaks of lightning wove and flowed through the sky like raging monsters.

Akeno realized that compared to such lightning, her holy lightning was mid at best.

"Akeno," Rias reminded her.

She calmed down and focused all her attention on observing the various changes in the clouds, carefully looking for their hidden patterns.

The residents of dorte witnessing such a horrific scene, understood that they were facing annihilation.

Without regard for anything else, they recklessly charged into the encirclement set up by the burial agency, attempting to break through and escape.

The idea was good, but reality was harsh.

Faced with the encirclement set up by the agency, the desperate charge was futile.

Blood splattered all over the ground but the formation set up by holy knights couldn't be shaken in the slightest.

"Kill them all," Shelby ordered.

At a command from Shelby, all his men charged toward Dulio.

"You think you can stop me with these worthless clowns? You're becoming more and more despicable as you turn into a devil," Dulio mocked.

He extended his finger and gently swiped it forward.

As if given a command, the lightning contained within the clouds tore through the air.

The attacks swept towards the devils before him.

Under the onslaught of violent lightning, none of the men who charged forward could utter a single scream.

They were completely erased.

"Weakling." Dulio gave a dismissive smile.

Rias noticed it just as the man launched his attack.

Taking advantage of the moment when his subordinates were killed, Shelby abandoned them and the city.

As for where he fled to and what direction he was heading, even with her high class strength, Rias couldn't make a clear judgment.

However, seeing the man in front of her, Rias couldn't help but sigh. "It makes sense. Those who can become friends with Yasuhiro are indeed not simple characters."

Not to mention that he just casually destroyed all of Shelby's subordinates including some of the ultimate class, the fact that he could make him flee without a fight showed a level of strength that was rare even among maou class.

Seeing the clouds overhead, Rias sensed that he wasn't just making words.

He intended to use the overwhelming lightning brewing within the clouds to destroy the entire city.

Without exaggeration, she believed that the man had the ability to do so.

What happened next was exactly as Rias had predicted.

"Hiding won't help, you won't escape death today," Dulio sighed.

Without further ado, he slowly pressed his right hand down toward the city beneath his feet.

The lightning which had been brewing in the thick clouds, surged down.

The apocalyptic scene unfolded before Rias's eyes. It was nothing but merciless destruction.

The settlement of dorte was completely defenseless, utterly helpless in the face of the raging and endless lightning.

If the entire city was like this, the people within it appeared even smaller and more helpless under the relentless assault.

Weaklings could never defy such power.

Those words involuntarily popped into Rias's mind. They seemed perfectly suited to describe the situation.

Akeno was captivated by the endless lightning and the raw destruction it contained.

The city of dorte had become the ruins that Rias remembered.

After Dulio finished his task, he led the burial agency away.

After the agency retreated, the environment around Akeno and Rias began to distort and break apart layer by layer.

They knew that this illusionary journey was over and they were about to return to reality.
