Chapter 31 31: Applications of amplification
Because of this legion wide application of technology, which theoretically could only be achieved through the power of light, Yasuhiro dared to entrust such technology to the underworld.
The devil's wild idea of implementing such technology across their legions was incredibly difficult. Even Ajuka, whose talent surpassed all others, couldn't solve the problem of the inherent attributes within devils. This was unlike Angels, who were born of holy power.
The 72 Pillars, each from a different clan represented different powers. The Bael clan had the power of destruction, the Sitri clan had ice and water magic, and the Phenex clan had immortality. Forcibly merging these different types of demonic power together would most likely result in a massive destruction.
"Getting back to the main point, the bishop trait represents increased demonic power, the knight trait represents increased agility and speed, and the rook trait represents increased defense and attack power."
"As you can probably understand, the so called superimposed amplitude simply means using vibration patterns to superimpose the characteristics of other pieces onto yourself."
"For example, Tsubasa whose trait is a Rook and Reya, whose trait is a Bishop, can have their vibration patterns align. This means the Rook's attack and defense power will be superimposed on Reya to varying degrees. Similarly, the bishop's demonic power will be superimposed on Tsubasa."
"THIS..."
Everyone, including Sona, stared in shock.
This change was beyond their expectations. The modified pieces had such effects.
Putting aside Sona's king piece, this so-called superimposed amplitude alone could enhance their strength by more than a whole margin.
"Yasuhiro, when you say that, are you referring to the base characteristics of the piece itself or the effects of the person who has fused with the piece?"
Sona hurriedly asked. Gaining the inherent characteristics of the evil piece wasn't a big deal. At most, it could be considered adding a pawn's promotion function to each pieces.
The promotion allows a pawn to transform into any piece except the king in designated enemy territory. The condition for triggering this in the improved pieces was the alignment of their vibration patterns.
Yasuhiro smiled slightly, inwardly marveling at his girlfriend's keen observation.
"It's the effect of the person who has fused with the pieces, combined with their personal characteristics."
Sona's eyes widened slightly.
The two concepts might sound similar, but upon closer examination, a vast difference could be found between them.
Connecting with the vibration patterns of a rook would grant the target the rook's base attack and defense capabilities and connecting with the individual piece would grant the target the specific characteristics associated with that person.
The enhancement provided by the piece's base traits is an improvement relative to one's own strength, just like a pawn promoting to another piece when it reaches enemy territory.
If someone were to acquire the characteristics of the actual person holding the svil piece, the situation would be vastly different.
Obtaining the characteristics of the devil themselves is acceptable for low class, at most it can be considered as sharing the base piece characteristics. But if it involves a high class like Sona, the intensity of the amplification she could exert on a low class servant is unimaginable.
"The increase isn't unlimited, it is conditional. The magnitude of the increase depends on the target's physical tolerance and the distance between the two."
Even with these conditions in place, the superimposed amplitude far exceeded expectations, it was simply far too powerful.
As expected of something developed by combining the efforts of all of Heaven, it was truly remarkable.
"The angels in heaven really seem to prefer teamwork."
Sona blinked.
Yasuhiro nodded noncommittally.
"The only downside is that this kind of boost will be less effective in rating games," Sona said regretfully.
She had looked into the rules of rating games, they were largely positional, base defense games.
Holding their respective positions is crucial. The map space in rating games can be large or small, making it unsuitable for this kind of proximity based amplification warfare.
To achieve the ideal effect, everyone must be grouped together for the amplification to reach its maximum potential.
Yasuhiro pinched Sona's cheeks and said, "Don't be greedy. I guarantee this is the maximum improvement that heaven's combat tactics and skills can achieve for your evil pieces. Even Ajuka can only go so far."
Yasuhiro was confident about this, unless Ajuka took a different approach and completely modified and innovated the angelic combat tactics from beginning to end. This, turning them into a system perfectly suited for devils.
However, just thinking about it made it seem unrealistic.
With that amount of time, effort and energy, it was much simpler to create something from scratch than to alter an existing work.
In research, a system isn't something that can be easily modified, as it incorporates the fundamental ideas of its original creators.
Sometimes, modifying someone else's work is far harder than creating something entirely new.
Yasuhiro was somewhat relieved that the knowledge fragments he obtained from Sona's pieces were just theoretical concepts about reincarnation across different races, rather than complete, ready made modules of the devil reincarnation technology.
Otherwise, just understanding that and then modifying it to serve as the final missing module for the angel reincarnation would require an unknown amount of time.
By the time the revisions were complete, decades would have passed, and it would be useless by then.
