Chapter 299: Ryūzetsu: You’re the Rain Shadow?!
The war raging across the ninja world had temporarily eased due to Madara Uchiha’s disappearance.
At the same time, the offensives against both Konoha and Amegakure had begun to slow down.
Without their greatest asset, neither Iwagakure nor Kumogakure could maintain the pressure they once had.
After all, the White Zetsu army and Madara’s personal strength had carried a tremendous portion of the burden on the battlefield.
Now that Madara had withdrawn from the spotlight, their greatest advantage was gone.
Relying solely on their own shinobi to contend against Konoha and Amegakure was nothing short of wishful thinking.
"I didn’t expect the journey to be this peaceful."
Ryūzetsu looked toward the drizzling silhouette of Amegakure in the distance before turning to Muku.
"Yeah."
Muku nodded.
Over the past two days, they had encountered virtually no trouble.
The trip had been unexpectedly smooth.
It seemed that the war had dampened the ambitions of many wandering shinobi.
At the same time, countries along the way had relaxed travel inspections, allowing them to reach Amegakure far sooner than expected.
"You didn’t even have to do anything the whole trip."
Ryūzetsu clicked her tongue and glanced at Ning Feng.
Originally, she had expected him to deal with any problems they encountered on the road.
Who would have thought that during wartime there would be almost no trouble at all?
"Maybe we just got lucky."
Ning Feng smiled but didn’t elaborate.
After spending several days together, he had already realized that Ryūzetsu was an exceptionally pure-hearted shinobi.
Growing up isolated from the outside world, neither she nor Muku had developed the premature maturity common among shinobi from larger villages.
Their understanding of the world had not yet been tainted by the harsh realities of being a ninja.
"As compensation, you have to treat us to a huge meal once we get to Amegakure."
Ryūzetsu walked over and glared at him.
For some reason, she’d been feeling increasingly frustrated during the journey.
Maybe it was because she never got to see Ning Feng fight.
Or maybe it was simply the melancholy of leaving home behind.
"Fine, fine. Whatever you want."
Laughing, Ning Feng nudged the two of them toward the city.
"What if Amegakure discovers we’re missing-nin?"
Ryūzetsu suddenly asked.
"They won’t."
"Don’t worry."
"The war isn’t at its most intense stage anymore. Internal inspections won’t be nearly as strict."
As he spoke, Ning Feng glanced at Muku’s appearance.
Although they hadn’t encountered any problems on the road, Muku’s clothes were in terrible condition.
His time inside the Box of Paradise had left him looking almost like a beggar.
Since they’d been rushing to reach Amegakure, there hadn’t been any opportunity to replace them.
Muku had simply endured it without complaint.
"Muku, why didn’t you change into something decent before we left?"
Ryūzetsu looked at him speechlessly.
Then she turned toward Ning Feng.
"Hey, do you have any spare clothes?"
With Muku looking like this, he would definitely attract attention upon entering the village.
There was even a chance someone would identify him.
And if Kusagakure sent pursuers...
"I don’t carry spare clothes."
Ning Feng shrugged.
"What kind of shinobi keeps clothing in their storage scrolls?"
"They’re filled with shuriken, tools, and jutsu."
"Then let’s go inside first and buy some for him."
Ning Feng suggested.
"Fine."
"I’ll go with this guy first."
"Muku, wait outside the village."
Ryūzetsu tore a strip from her clothing and wrapped it around her forehead.
Then she rearranged her hair into a slightly different style.
"You should disguise yourself too."
She looked at Ning Feng helplessly when she saw him standing there motionless.
This guy...
Did he really have nothing but strength?
"Is that something Kusagakure taught you?"
Ning Feng looked at her improvised disguise.
"It’s the best I can do right now."
Ryūzetsu sighed.
"It’s not enough for a perfect disguise, but it’ll have to do."
Anyone who looked carefully would still recognize her.
"I’m not a missing-nin from Kusagakure."
"I don’t need to worry."
Ning Feng shrugged and walked toward the village gate.
"Wait for me, you idiot!"
Ryūzetsu hurried after him.
Meanwhile, Ning Feng silently transmitted a message to Muku.
Come in later.
Just follow us.
"When did Amegakure become this impressive?"
As they entered, Ryūzetsu stared at the massive buildings surrounding them.
"This is Amegakure?"
Her face was filled with disbelief.
"Wasn’t Amegakure supposed to be a small village like Kusagakure?"
"How did it become... this?"
"Just follow me."
Ning Feng turned and gave her a mysterious smile.
The changes Amegakure had undergone over the years were nothing short of astonishing.
In just a few short years, it had risen from a minor hidden village comparable to Kusagakure into one of the major powers of the ninja world.
Naturally, Ning Feng’s contributions had played a huge role in that transformation.
Without him, Amegakure would have remained a small village just as it had in the original timeline.
"I can’t believe it..."
Ryūzetsu gazed around in amazement.
Had something major happened here?
The crowds alone far surpassed anything she had seen in Kusagakure.
The sheer flow of people spoke volumes.
Amegakure was prosperous.
And where there was prosperity, there were more shinobi.
"Let’s go inside."
Ryūzetsu exhaled.
Maybe with so many people, inspections would be more relaxed.
"Hey..."
"The gate guards are coming over."
The two stood in line as their turn approached.
The inspections earlier had seemed rather strict, making Ryūzetsu increasingly nervous.
"Lord Amekage?"
One of the gate guards suddenly froze.
Then he spoke in surprise.
"Lord Amekage?"
Ryūzetsu’s heart skipped a beat.
She quickly turned around.
This is bad!
The Amekage surely kept up with intelligence from around the ninja world.
If he knew she was a missing-nin from Kusagakure and recognized her face...
She’d be sent back immediately!
"Run!"
"What are you standing around for?!"
Ryūzetsu glanced at the long line behind them and grabbed Ning Feng’s arm in panic.
"I am the Amekage."
"I can arrange a place for you to stay."
Ning Feng gently pulled her hand away and smiled.
"You..."
Ryūzetsu stared at him with wide eyes.
"...You’re the Amekage?"
