Chapter 331: My Boyfriend Came to Pick Me Up
After Gabriel Sinclair left, Chloe Sinclair had the students take their seats. The rows behind them were for the parents from the village.
Gabriel and the others had spent the better part of a month rehearsing these performances. Chloe had seen a few behind-the-scenes clips the day before.
As the hosts, Adela Armstrong and Gabriel Sinclair were ready by ten o’clock.
Gabriel Sinclair wore a black suit, while Adela Armstrong was in an aqua-blue formal gown.
Standing on the stage, she glanced down at Chloe Sinclair in the audience, a flicker of contempt in her eyes.
However, she had no idea that Chloe Sinclair hadn’t even noticed her look.
The village elementary school didn’t have many students. Even with every child participating, the entire program was over by eleven.
The students were a bit awkward, being on stage for the first time, but they gave it their all from start to finish.
The other guests also took part in the performances, but it was Gabriel Sinclair’s act that really brought the house down.
The student standing next to Chloe couldn’t help but sigh in admiration. "Gabriel really lives up to his idol status. His stage presence is leagues better than the others."
Chloe Sinclair nodded in solemn agreement.
But anyone could tell it wasn’t just a matter of him being "a little better." He was on a completely different level.
Standing in the audience, Chloe Sinclair recorded Gabriel Sinclair’s performance and sent the video to their family group chat.
Chloe had only just sent it when Ethan Sinclair replied.
Q: [@Chloe, what show are you and Gabriel on?]
CH: [It’s a variety show, a collaboration between the production crew and the school. I only came for two days. I had no idea my little brother was part of it too.]
Soon after, Mr. Sinclair finished the video and chimed in with a jab: [Why does Gabriel look so folksy?]
Chloe froze. She glanced back at Gabriel, who was still dancing his heart out on stage, and her fingers hovered over her phone.
She thought back to what her father had just said and couldn’t help but smile.
’Now that he mentioned it, he really did have that vibe.’
With that thought, Chloe snapped a few more pictures and sent them to the group chat.
After New Year’s Day, filming for the variety show was nearly complete.
Chloe and two students from the art academy had already booked their tickets, and that afternoon, they flew back to Emberfall.
It was already eight in the evening by the time she deplaned.
A heavy snow was falling over Emberfall.
A cold snowflake landed on Chloe’s face, and she instinctively tucked in her chin, regretting not having brought a scarf.
She hailed a cab and had the driver take the two students back to the university first, while she planned to head to her research lab.
’Even though she’d only been gone for two days, Chloe still felt pressed for time.’
Taxis came and went outside the airport. Just as Chloe was about to hail one, someone suddenly tapped her on the shoulder from behind.
Chloe’s eyes widened in surprise as she whipped around.
As she turned, she collided with a firm chest.
The crisp scent of mint made Chloe’s heart skip a beat. She looked up in surprise, her gaze meeting a strong, sharp jawline.
"How about your boyfriend gives you a ride home, Miss Sinclair?"
Chloe stared at the man before her for a long moment before humming in agreement.
"Alright."
Chloe closed the taxi door she had just opened, ready to leave with Jasper Shaw.
The next moment, the taxi driver suddenly poked his head out the window and couldn’t help but ask, "Miss, are you taking this cab or not?"
The driver’s voice was so loud that Chloe nearly stumbled.
She turned back to see the driver’s reproachful glare and didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
She glanced at the expressionless man beside her and whispered, "See? You just had to steal his business!"
Then, she turned to the taxi driver with an apologetic look. "Sir, I’m so sorry. My boyfriend came to pick me up."
