Chapter 307 - 308: Forlorn
Mia Warren looked at Chloe Sinclair, her eyes filled with an unspeakable resentment.
"You’ve ruined my entire youth!"
"If it weren’t for you, I’d still have a chance to compete for a spot in the remaining competitions this year. And you? You have the nerve to say I can still compete?"
"You’ve got to be fucking kidding me!"
Chloe Sinclair was struck speechless by the outburst.
She opened her mouth, but no words came out.
A look of sorrow filled her eyes. "Don’t get so worked up. The ambulance will be here soon. If you move, you really will cripple your leg."
"I told you to fucking get out!"
Mia Warren clutched her leg, on the verge of a complete breakdown.
Chloe Sinclair had no choice but to leave, but just as she turned, Coach Young and Shawn Styles rushed in.
When Coach Young saw the injury on Mia Warren’s leg, his heart sank. A flicker of an unreadable emotion passed through his eyes.
Mia Warren, of course, understood that look. The moment she saw Coach Young, she burst into tears.
"Coach Young, hurry and make this woman get out! It’s all her fault! She ruined me! Make her get out!"
Coach Young was startled. He saw the hurt in Chloe Sinclair’s eyes, and though he couldn’t guess what had happened, he had great faith in her character.
He was about to speak, but he saw Chloe Sinclair shake her head, and then, without another word, she turned and left.
Seeing this, Coach Young quickly said, "Shawn Styles, go check on Miss Sinclair. I’ll stay here with Mia."
"Okay."
Compared to Mia Warren, Shawn Styles was more concerned about Chloe Sinclair’s condition.
Because when Chloe Sinclair had turned to leave just now, she had seemed... disappointed.
Shawn Styles had rarely seen Chloe Sinclair show such an emotion, so he quickly followed her.
By this time, almost all the athletes from the sports team had arrived. Those who knew Chloe Sinclair greeted her, while those who didn’t couldn’t help but stare.
When Shawn Styles came out, he immediately spotted Chloe Sinclair heading towards the man-made forest.
He didn’t call out to her, just followed silently.
Chloe Sinclair didn’t stop walking until she reached a more secluded area.
Shawn Styles, who was about ten meters behind, paused and didn’t move.
"Shawn Styles, I’m fine. You should go back."
Chloe Sinclair turned her head. Her tone was calm, and her face was completely devoid of emotion.
The more she acted this way, the more worried Shawn Styles became.
"Chloe, what just happened?"
In any case, Shawn Styles didn’t believe a word Mia Warren had said.
For one, Mia Warren had been on the verge of a breakdown. But more importantly, the Chloe Sinclair she described was not the person he knew.
Shawn Styles jogged a few steps forward, leaned against the trunk of a pine tree, and crossed his arms over his chest. "I believe you."
Chloe Sinclair froze, tilting her head with a flicker of confusion in her eyes.
Shawn Styles said again, "You’re my idol, and you’re my friend. I believe in the person you are, but I need to understand what happened."
Deep down, he felt that nothing Mia Warren said could be trusted.
"If I told you Mia Warren fell on her own, would you believe me?"
The moment the words were out of her mouth, Shawn Styles nodded without hesitation, his face sincere. "Of course. Why wouldn’t I?"
When he arrived, there were already traces of blood on Mia Warren’s leg from a muscle spasm. Spasms like that were very common among athletes, especially long-distance runners.
"I just want to understand why Mia said it was your fault."
"Because she can’t compete for the rest of the year."
Chloe Sinclair didn’t spell it out, but Shawn Styles understood.
In an instant, his expression changed drastically. "That’s ridiculous!"
