Chapter 191 - 190: Blood-Handed Demon Fish
Nighttime.
Night Flower Inn.
The evening wind from the window carried a deep autumn chill, growing much cooler.
Inside the room, a brass charcoal basin steadily radiated warmth, keeping the cold at bay.
Zelir sat upright at his desk. Before him lay three Magic Plants used for refining a Low Level Recovery Potion.
Calming Flower, Earth Root Grass, and Morning Dew Grass.
The increase in his Intelligence had not only greatly accelerated Zelir’s progress in learning the Trigger Skill, but it had also benefited his Alchemy of Magic Potions immensely.
At the very least, his higher level of Magic Power control could increase the purity of the extracted essences.
Zelir decided to try again.
He raised his Night Peace Magic Wand and, after reviewing every step of the Alchemy Formula and the Fusion Technique in his mind, began to cast the Extraction Skill.
A soft green light glowed, like a living mist, shrouding the Calming Flower and Earth Root Grass on the desk.
This time, as his Magic Power seeped in, Zelir perceived something completely different from before.
In his Perception, the essences within were no longer blurry points of light, but two distinct networks of veins.
Zelir could even easily distinguish the useful components from the impurities clinging to them.
With such a clear view, the subsequent steps became much simpler.
With a flicker of intent, he proceeded steadily.
His Magic Power formed a fine, woven net, precisely carrying out the separation process.
As Zelir stripped away the essences, he removed the grayish-black impurities one by one.
Finally, the green light of the Extraction Skill faded, leaving two spheres of glowing mist hovering before him.
They emitted a soft, pure light; the purity of the essences was much higher than before.
’The 12-point boost to my Intelligence Attribute really is useful!’
"Excellent!"
Zelir was overjoyed and began the subsequent fusion step.
He waved Night Peace gently. The two spheres of glowing mist slowly drew closer in the air, spinning and merging. The entire process was incredibly smooth, with no signs of rejection.
They transformed into a single, mixed sphere of blue and yellow light.
Zelir dropped it into the water.
As the mixed essence touched the surface, it silently bloomed outward, dyeing the entire basin of water the same color.
Next, Zelir extracted the essence of the Morning Dew Grass and dripped it into the water.
The essence of Morning Dew Grass acted as a sort of stabilizer.
It could build a bridge, balancing the conflicts between the various components and allowing them to merge perfectly.
Zelir was still nervous as the Morning Dew Grass essence dripped into the water.
After all, this was the first time he had ever made it this far.
The water in the copper basin flared brightly for a moment before gradually dimming. The three essences merged peacefully, forming a stable structure.
This step was also a success.
’Good.’
Zelir encouraged himself inwardly and proceeded to the next step.
Now it was time to cast the Fusion Technique.
Each Magic Potion had its own unique Fusion Technique. Only through this specific manipulation of Magic Power could the essences be transformed into a Magic Potion with special effects.
This was also the most critical step.
Night Peace glided slowly, its Magic Power flowing out continuously to cover the surface of the water where the three essences had combined.
Zelir began to drive his Magic Power, Sketching the Spell Structure.
The Fusion Technique’s complexity was manageable, not as intricate as a complete Magic spell.
Plus, with the mnemonic assistance of Technique Celestial Calculation, Zelir cast it with ease.
The properties of the liquid in the copper basin changed along with Zelir’s manipulation of his Magic Power.
At first, the color simply deepened.
Then, the surface began to swirl gently, forming a small vortex.
After that, tiny points of light flickered within the liquid and slowly floated upward.
Bit by bit, the water in the copper basin gradually transformed under the catalysis of his Magic Power.
Zelir was completely focused, not daring to let his concentration waver for even a second.
He could feel that he was very close to success.
’Just the final circuit...’
’Done!’
The moment the trajectory of the Fusion Technique formed a complete loop in Zelir’s mind, a soft BUZZ sounded as the liquid in the basin reached the peak of its transformation.
It rapidly grew thicker, and its color changed from a murky mix to a pale cyan, like a piece of molten jade.
The liquid began to evaporate at an unnatural rate. A large cloud of white vapor rose up, carrying a fresh, herbal fragrance that filled the entire room.
When the vapor dissipated, only a small, viscous, translucent, green gel-like liquid remained at the bottom of the copper basin.
[Low Level Recovery Potion].
’I did it!’
Zelir slapped his thigh in excitement.
He had finally refined the first Magic Potion of his career!
He took out a bottle, carefully poured the liquid into it, then shook it and observed the contents.
’Hmm... not bad.’
However, because this was his first successful attempt, many of the finer details were off. The quality of this Low Level Recovery Potion wasn’t particularly good.
But it was, without a doubt, a genuine Magic Potion.
At least drinking it would actually soothe one’s injuries.
And not poison you or make strange pustules sprout all over your body.
’But if I were to sell it... even if a Magic Potion Shop bought it, the price probably wouldn’t be very high.’
’After all, the Magic Potion’s Level is low to begin with, and the quality is just average.’
’But who cares? I’ve taken the first step.’
Zelir placed the Magic Potion into his Storage Pouch, completely satisfied.
’When my Intelligence Attribute gets higher, the quality of the Magic Potions I make will naturally improve.’
’And I’ll be able to collect other Magic Potion Recipes and pursue higher-level Magic Potions, too.’
...
After resting for a few days, the team regrouped at the Adventurer’s Association.
With Maki’s addition, Zelir was full of confidence in the team’s strength.
They could finally head to the right side of the hall and accept Middle Level commissions without holding back.
"Haaaah..."
The moment they gathered, Gray couldn’t help but let out a huge yawn, the corners of his eyes wet with sleepy tears.
"What’s up? Didn’t you sleep well last night?" Zelir glanced at Gray.
"I’m a little tired from practicing my Swordsmanship..." Gray stretched his shoulders.
"I thought you were just slacking off, but you actually stuck with it."
Valles walked over to Gray. "I’m starting to see you in a new light."
"I’m so honored to have earned your appreciation, Lord Valles," Gray said, yawning again.
Eyes swept across the commission board exclusive to Silver Level Adventurers.
Some familiar missions were still posted there.
For example, the quest to eliminate the "Griffin Queen" of Wailing Summit, and the one to hunt the "Lava Tyrant" of Scorching Canyon.
Apparently, no Adventurers were confident enough to accept them.
To avoid putting the team in danger, Marcus had spent the last few days specifically studying the Adventurer’s Association Universal Monster Atlas.
He had identified several [Challenge] rated Demons that the team could currently handle.
Marcus’s gaze scanned past the listings before stopping on one particular commission slip.
"How about this one?" Marcus reached out and took it down.
Zelir leaned in to take a look.
[Commission to Exterminate the Blood-Handed Demon Fish]
