Chapter 41 41 Instruction and Awakening
Menchi looked at him, puzzled. "Since you already know that, why come to me? The Association will definitely send someone to contact you soon."
"I have no doubt the people they send will be professional, but whether they'll be truly dedicated is hard to say. In comparison, I feel it might be better to ask you, Examiner Menchi."
"Besides, there's the matter of Killua. I just spoke with my friends, and we've decided to head to the Zoldyck Estate once we're done here."
"You probably know the reputation of the Zoldyck family. While we might not necessarily get into a fight, it certainly can't hurt to strengthen ourselves first."
Zane had come prepared before approaching Menchi.
Likewise, what he said was exactly what was on his mind.
Setting the Zoldyck matter aside, he was genuinely wary of being assigned a troublesome instructor by the Association.
Someone like Wing.
In the original story, although Wing had good intentions while guiding Gon and Killua through their Nen training, his methods were clearly too conservative.
Especially when compared to Kurapika's teacher, the difference was night and day.
Wing's instruction didn't even cover the fundamental techniques of Nen completely.
The latter, however, not only provided perfect guidance but also assisted Kurapika in developing his unique Nen ability, even teaching him about Vows and Limitations.
Zane didn't want to gamble on a teacher, and he didn't have the time to slowly waste away in the Hunter world.
"The Zoldycks... you and your friends certainly have some nerve to go looking for trouble with such a dangerous bunch... But, I do admire your courage."
"Alright, I'll act as your teacher for now. But I'll say this upfront—my knowledge of Nen isn't exactly 'professional' in the academic sense, so don't you dare look down on your teacher later."
Menchi listened seriously. After a moment of contemplation, she readily accepted Zane's request and gave him a playful wink.
In truth, their meeting was a perfect match of mutual interests.
Menchi was currently a Single-Star Hunter.
According to the Ten Hunter Bylaws, to be promoted to a Double-Star Hunter, a Single-Star Hunter must mentor a junior hunter who then earns their own star rating.
In other words, by becoming Zane's teacher, as long as Zane eventually became a Single-Star Hunter himself, Menchi could be promoted to Double-Star status.
.......
"Stay here for a week?" Gon, Kurapika, and Leorio looked at Zane and Menchi in surprise.
They were in the hall where the final test had taken place.
Not long ago, the final ceremony of the Hunter Exam had concluded.
Zane and the others had successfully received their Hunter Licenses.
But while Gon and his friends were discussing their trip to the Zoldycks, Zane had brought them here.
Menchi was already waiting for them.
"You remember my fight with Hisoka back in the Numere Wetlands, right? Didn't I mention then that I learned a new power from him?"
Zane stood with his arms crossed, addressing the three of them.
Leorio and Gon thought back and nodded instinctively.
A sharp glint appeared in Kurapika's eyes.
He had actually wanted to ask about it for a long time.
During the final test, when Zane had used some unknown method to make Gon admit defeat in a state of abnormal fear, Kurapika had already begun to suspect something.
"It seems you remember. Good. This power is called Nen. It is a force that any true expert in this world, including Pro Hunters, must master," Zane said with a solemn nod as he observed their reactions.
"Nen?!"
Leorio, Gon, and Kurapika repeated the word involuntarily.
The word seemed to carry a strange weight, triggering an instinctive desire in the three of them to explore it.
"Teacher, I'll leave the rest to you." Having finished the introduction, Zane stepped aside, handing the floor over to Menchi.
"Ahem... as Zane just said, Nen is a power that any true expert in this world must master."
"In fact, once you receive your Hunter Licenses, the Association will arrange for professional Hunters to find you and provide guidance."
"But because Zane knows you're heading to the Zoldyck Estate and need sufficient strength, he came to me."
"Don't worry. For this week, I'm primarily here to instruct Zane. You three will be acting as auditors, so there's no need to call me teacher."
Menchi cleared her throat, trying to sound like a seasoned veteran as she explained the situation to the trio.
"That won't do, Examiner... Teacher, since you are willing to guide us in learning Nen, it is only proper to address you as such."
Kurapika was the first who couldn't sit still; he immediately bowed slightly to Menchi to express his gratitude.
Carrying the weight of a blood feud, he could never turn a blind eye to power.
"Ah? Right, right! I think so too!"
"Teacher Menchi, please guide us!"
Leorio and Gon followed suit, bowing to Menchi as soon as they realized what was happening.
Menchi was very satisfied with their attitude.
Originally, her plan was as she stated—to focus mainly on Zane—but seeing how much respect the three showed her, she felt she could put a little more effort into guiding them as well.
"Alright, everyone sit down. I'll start by giving you a detailed explanation of Nen."
Menchi gestured with her hands for them to sit on the floor.
Then, she began to explain the concept of Nen.
Although Zane had already learned it, his understanding was quite superficial, so he listened intently.
As Menchi spoke, knowledge about Nen gradually filled Zane's mind.
Some of it he already knew, but there were many details that had never been described in the original plot.
It proved that for Menchi to become a Single-Star Hunter, she didn't just have world-class cooking skills; her understanding and mastery of Nen were also top-notch.
By the time Menchi finished the general overview of Nen, the sky had inadvertently grown dark.
After a simple meal provided by the hotel, they began the true training.
"Are you sure it'll be okay?" Menchi couldn't help but look at Zane.
"Have faith in them," Zane replied with a slight nod.
In front of them sat Leorio, Gon, and Kurapika, their shirts removed and their backs turned toward the instructors.
The setup was simple.
After learning about Nen and the two methods Menchi provided to open one's Aura Nodes, the three had almost simultaneously chosen the forced awakening.
The reason was simple; given the situation with Killua, none of them wanted to waste any time.
Seeing the unwavering resolve of the three boys, Menchi stopped hesitating and immediately prepared to use her Nen alongside Zane.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
With their hands touching the boys' backs, Nen aura erupted from Zane and Menchi's palms, surging into their bodies.
As their Aura Nodes were burst open by the Nen aura, their own life energy instantly transformed into Nen and erupted outward.
