Chapter 126: Adana Threatens The Deep
Then Adana pulled his hand back from Sameer’s shoulder and took a step away.
The smile at the corner of his mouth suddenly sharpened into open mockery.
"Heh."
Adana let out a low chuckle, tilting his head as he studied Sameer.
"I’m telling you, man, you’re kind of a cuck."
Sameer snapped his head up, furious. "What the hell did you just say?"
"Easy, easy."
Adana raised both hands in surrender, though the smile on his face didn’t fade.
"I’m just telling the truth. No matter how many excuses you make for her, no matter how hard you try to defend her, the facts are right there.
She betrayed you. She divorced you. She fell in love with Soldier Boy.
That’s the truth. It’s all on security footage. The two of them walking out of a hotel arm in arm. And you’re still trying to convince yourself she was forced into it?
You’re still going to protect her reputation in front of us? If that’s not being a cuck, what is?"
Sameer’s face flushed crimson. He wanted to argue, but he couldn’t find a single reason that would hold up.
His clenched fists trembled slightly at his sides.
"All right, don’t get pissed."
Adana took the mockery off his face and replaced it with a smile that looked almost sincere.
"We’re going to be on the same team from now on. And if we’re a team, some things are better said out loud than kept bottled up.
I know you still can’t let her go. That’s normal. Ten years of marriage isn’t something you just get over in a day or two.
But you need to start looking forward. Your ex-wife is Soldier Boy’s woman now. If you still want to see your daughter again, if you want any place at all in this world, then you need to clear those unrealistic fantasies out of your head first. Got it?"
Sameer said nothing.
He gritted his teeth and turned his face away.
He knew every word Adana said was true.
And that was exactly why it hurt so damn much.
Just then, footsteps sounded outside the warehouse door. A sleazy voice followed.
"Well, well. Look who I found."
With a boom, the heavy iron door was kicked open.
A man stood in the doorway. He was tall, dressed in a skintight green uniform, with a carefully designed streamlined stripe across his chest that looked like the scales of some kind of sea creature.
His wet hair clung to his forehead. It was hard to tell whether he had slathered it with gel or had actually just crawled out of the water.
The man braced one hand against the doorframe and planted the other on his hip, striking a pose he clearly thought was devastatingly cool.
That sleazy man was none other than The Deep of The Seven.
He held the pose without moving for a full three or four seconds.
Then he turned, his arrogant gaze sweeping over everyone in the warehouse. A smug curve lifted the corner of his mouth as he slowly said,
"Rats. Finally found you."
What reaction had he expected?
Screaming?
Or maybe terrified eyes. Even better, someone’s knees giving out as they collapsed onto the floor.
After all, he was the Lord of the Seven Seas!
These people should fear him. They had to fear him.
And yet.
Most of the people in the warehouse didn’t scream. There were no terrified looks, no begging for mercy.
Mallory only stared at him coldly, like she was looking at a fly.
Adana was still leaning against the wall with his arms crossed, the amused smile on his face not shifting in the slightest.
The security personnel quietly moved their hands to the weapons at their waists, but their expressions remained professionally calm.
The only one who might have looked afraid was Sameer.
He was huddled in the corner, his face white as paper, his legs shaking uncontrollably.
He had joined The Boys less than ten minutes ago.
He hadn’t even learned all his new coworkers’ names yet, and now a member of The Seven had kicked the door in?
What kind of shit luck was this?
The Deep frowned.
He felt humiliated.
His carefully planned entrance, the badass pose he had practiced in front of the mirror for half an hour, had all gone completely to waste.
What the hell kind of reaction was this?
"Hey, hey."
The Deep pulled his hand off the doorframe and strode toward the center of the warehouse, his voice carrying a wounded, offended edge.
"What’s with that reaction? I’m the Lord of the Seven Seas, a member of The Seven, a superhero deeply valued by Homelander and Soldier Boy.
When you see me, you’re supposed to scream. You’re supposed to run. You’re supposed to get on your knees and beg me not to kill you.
What the hell is this? A bunch of rats see a cat and don’t even run?
There shouldn’t be a single Supe here, right?"
He slowly approached them.
"Forget it."
He rolled his wrists, a cruel smile spreading across his face.
"Result’s the same either way. I’ll break all your arms and legs first so none of you can run.
Then I’ll drag every last one of you in front of Soldier Boy and Homelander. I’m sure they’ll take real good care of you."
At that moment, Adana stepped away from the wall.
He stopped a few paces in front of The Deep, looked up slightly, and said,
"All right, Deep, right? I know you. I know you’ve been hunting down members of our church, and I also invited you to join the Church of the Collective before.
We’ve had bad blood for a while now, so there’s no need to pretend this is our first meeting."
The Deep narrowed his eyes, looking down at this man who clearly didn’t know his place, a dismissive smirk tugging at his mouth.
"But,"
Adana went on calmly,
"if you lay a hand on us now, then maybe before dawn tomorrow, certain things you’ve done with certain fish will be all over New York, all over America, and all over every corner of the internet. You sure you want to take that risk?"
The Deep stopped in his tracks.
The smile on his face froze for an instant, then quickly shifted back into that arrogant expression.
"Heh."
He let out a dry laugh.
"Who the hell would believe some bullshit you made up? What evidence do you have?"
"Who said we made it up?"
Adana smiled as he asked, amusement flickering in his eyes.
He spread his hands and continued,
"You already know, don’t you? It’s never been a secret that our church has dirt on a lot of you Supes.
You really think none of that dirt comes with actual evidence? No photos? No videos? No records of every time you secretly slipped out of Vought Headquarters to visit those poor marine creatures?
Deep, you’re underestimating us."
The dismissive smirk vanished from Deep’s mouth.
He glared hard at Adana and said through clenched teeth, "Then I’ll kill every one of you right here."
"Of course you can kill us."
Adana’s smile didn’t waver.
"You’re absolutely capable of that, Deep. You’re a Supe from The Seven. All of us ordinary people put together wouldn’t stand a chance against you.
If you wanted to kill us all, it would be easy. It wouldn’t take more than thirty seconds."
He paused, clasped his hands behind his back, and tilted his head slightly.
"But my people are scattered all across the United States. Over a hundred of them.
I check in with them at set times every day. If I fail to send a safety signal by the deadline, they’ll follow the preset instructions and release all your dirty little secrets.
Every photo, every video, every record you’d rather die than let anyone see.
After I die, all of it will flood the entire internet like an avalanche. Doesn’t that scare you?"
