Chapter 48: Mary Mitchell
Under everyone’s watchful eyes, Alex took only twenty seconds to solve the Rubik’s Cube in his hand.
Cecilia looked at Elena, clearly questioning her about the two strangers.
Elena put down her bowl and chopsticks, quickly walking over to Cecilia so she could introduce the woman and the child.
"This is Mary Mitchell, your granduncle’s niece. Over the years, since your granduncle and I did not have any children, Mary has been taking care of us. You can call her Aunt Mary. And this is Aunt Mary’s child, Alice."
Cecilia nodded to show her understanding.
On the day she reunited with Elena, she took the initiative to learn a bit about the Mitchell family.
The couple didn’t always have any children; they once had a daughter named Sunny Mitchell, but she tragically passed away at the age of seven. Grief-stricken, they decided not to have any more children.
However, their business grew larger, and some members of the Mitchell family began setting their eyes on their assets.
Initially, the extended family eagerly offered for the couple to adopt their children, but they refused them all.
Then, Mary appeared. She somewhat resembled Sunny, their deceased daughter. Although the couple never formally took her in, they allowed her presence in their lives.
Over the years, Mary became an adult and a mother. Her relationship with Elena and James grew stronger, and she believed it was only natural that she would inherit their assets.
