Chapter 169: Rivalry of Cats And Dogs
Just as Voomie was wondering what she should eat next.
A translucent screen suddenly appeared before her.
[Special Event Announcement]
A limited-time tasting event is now being held!
You will be paired with another visitor.
Each participant will imagine an original dessert.
The participant whose imagined creation receives the higher personal satisfaction rating will be declared the winner.
A special prize awaits the champion.
"Woof?"
Voomie blinked.
She tried tilting her head.
Or at least, she attempted to.
Unfortunately, after consuming what could only be described as an unreasonable amount of desserts, she had somehow become nearly twice her original size.
Turning her head now required considerably more effort.
"A special prize!"
Her eyes, which had turned narrow, immediately sparkled.
"What do I get if I win?"
Just imagining another reward from the Land of Sweets made drool trickle from the corner of her mouth.
Somewhere behind the scenes.
Several hidden workers silently prayed that they would not imagine something unreasonable.
At that moment, the colorful space around Voomie gently rippled.
It expanded outward as though making room for another guest.
A second later, another visitor stepped through.
The newcomer was a black cat.
She carried herself with quiet elegance, as her every movement was refined and graceful.
The moment their eyes met, Voomie's cheerful mood soured.
"…"
She didn't know why.
But she instinctively disliked the cat's aura.
Likewise, the cat quietly observed the unusually round dog before her.
"…"
She wasn't particularly impressed either.
After a brief silence, the cat spoke first.
"Are you my opponent?"
Her voice was calm and composed.
Voomie proudly puffed out her already spherical chest.
"No way, woof! Do you really think you're worthy of becoming my opponent?"
The words landed perfectly as the black cat's eyelid twitched.
The serene expression she had carefully maintained immediately cracked.
"Hmph! Just a small fry, nya~"
She flicked her tail dismissively.
Voomie gasped.
"Who are you calling a small fry?! Your eyes are just like your mind! Smaller than snails, woof!"
The cat's whiskers trembled.
"Excuse me?"
She narrowed her dark eyes.
"Who are you calling small, you fat dog?!"
Voomie grinned triumphantly.
"At least becoming fat requires talent and dedication! You, on the other paw, ended up short without putting in any effort! Woofofofofo!"
She laughed so hard her body jiggled, and even laughing required effort.
"You!"
The black cat's fur visibly puffed up.
"I'll scratch that smug face right off you! And I'll eat all your desserts afterward!"
"Try it, woof!"
"I'll finish yours before you can even blink!"
"I've never lost an eating contest!"
The atmosphere instantly became tense.
Neither had tasted the other's desserts.
Neither knew anything about the other.
Yet somehow, they had already become enemies.
Before the argument could escalate any further.
A second announcement materialized between the two contestants.
[Round One]
Imagine your ideal cake.
Your score will be determined by satisfaction rating after tasting it.
The higher score advances toward victory.
The two rivals immediately fell silent as they slowly turned toward the announcement.
A dangerous glint appeared in both of their eyes.
"You're finished, woof!"
Voomie declared confidently.
The black cat merely smiled.
"We'll see about that, nya!"
And so, the sweetest battle in the history of the Land of Sweets officially began.
***
When Caelum stepped into the Land of Sweets, he hadn't expected much.
Sure, the description had sounded impressive.
But he assumed it was simply another place that served exceptionally delicious desserts.
Then, an idea crossed his mind as he thought of a dark chocolate bar from one of the most famous brands from Earth.
The moment the thought fully formed.
A neatly wrapped chocolate bar materialized in his hand.
"…"
Caelum blinked.
He carefully unwrapped it and took a bite.
The rich bitterness spread across his tongue, followed by a deep sweetness that lingered pleasantly.
"It's even better than the original."
He couldn't help but mutter in surprise.
It wasn't merely a recreation.
It was as though the Land of Sweets had taken the very concept of that chocolate and refined it into its ideal form.
Curiosity quickly replaced his skepticism.
'Then what about that one?' He closed his eyes as a memory surfaced within him.
To be more specific, of the Dreamberry Pudding that Jordan Ramtalk had prepared during the Sun God Festival.
A moment later, a beautiful glass cup appeared before him filled with Dreamberry Pudding.
And it was slightly decorated too.
Just before he became Young Master Kai once again.
The same translucent announcement appeared before his eyes.
Soon, the surrounding space gently rippled and another visitor appeared opposite him.
"Huh?"
Caelum blinked.
It was someone he knew.
Anastasia Zenith, the princess from his Zenith Empire.
She also looked equally surprised.
"Caelum?"
For a brief moment, neither of them spoke.
Then, Anastasia's expression gradually became serious.
Her red eyes narrowed with determination.
Now she genuinely wanted to win this special event, no, she fully believed she would win.
After all, she was the Princess of the Zenith Empire.
Ever since childhood, she had tasted countless delicacies prepared by the greatest royal chefs on the continent.
Every dessert imaginable had appeared upon the imperial dining table.
From ordinary pastries, to legendary sweets crafted from ingredients most people had only heard about.
If the competition revolved around appreciating desserts and sweets…
How could she possibly lose?
Especially against Caelum.
'He spends all his time just causing trouble, so he surely doesn't understand desserts better than I do.'
Her confidence steadily rose.
Caelum, meanwhile, noticed the increasingly intense gaze directed at him.
"Uh? Why are you looking at me like that?"
He could almost see flames dancing within her eyes.
Anastasia proudly folded her arms.
"Prepare yourself! This victory belongs to me."
Just then, another announcement appeared between them.
[Round One]
Imagine a dessert that anyone can enjoy—whether they arrive with a full stomach or an empty one.
After tasting your creation, you will rate your own satisfaction.
The participant with the higher satisfaction score will advance to the next round.
The two quietly reread the rules as they slowly looked at each other.
"…"
An invisible spark seemed to flash between them.
Anastasia smiled confidently.
"I hope you're ready."
Caelum smiled back.
This challenge sounded interesting, or rather defeating the princess once again, sounded interesting.
