Chapter 724: Nightmares, Decisions
Feng Xiyan rested his hand on the hilt of his blue sword and looked at Fan Wanming.
He slowly rubbed his blue sword’s hilt, then said, "Now that Ku Shu is dead and the Wen Army’s attack has failed, Wen Kang will not remain idle for a long time. Before he makes a move, we must strike first."
"This general had sent secret letters to the generals guarding the Yu Empire’s city garrisons last night. If they are smart, they will open the city gates for us. As long as everything goes smoothly, we will arrive in the imperial capital city in six days. By then..."
Feng Xiyan’s eyes flickered coldly as he added, "...It will be the end for the Wen Clan and those murderers."
Hearing this, Fan Wanming looked at him with admiration and determination. "Great General is wise."
"Go and prepare."
Fan Wanming clasped his fists and responded, "Yes, Great General."
After Fan Wanming left with Tan Pengtai, Xue Ruhong hesitated for a moment before asking, "Great General, would you join us for breakfast?"
Feng Xiyan shook his head lightly. "Thank you for your invitation, General Xue, but this general still needs to inspect the preparations. You may go ahead and eat with General Ding first."
Without waiting for a response, Feng Xiyan walked toward the training field.
Watching his retreating figure, Xue Ruhong let out a long sigh and muttered, "It seems we don’t have much time."
Understanding his meaning, Ding Zhenshun clenched his fists. "This general will visit Fairy Bai’s temple today. General Xue, this general will leave the patrol to you."
With that, Ding Zhenshun hurried away.
"Wait, General Ding—" Xue Ruhong raised his hand, but then lowered it with a sigh.
Rubbing his brows, he muttered tiredly, "Fairy Bai... if you can hear this subordinate, please come back as soon as possible. Otherwise, more than one life may be lost before you return."
While the soldiers of the Feng Army were busy preparing for war, far away in the modern world, Bai Hanyun was woken up by nightmares.
She suddenly opened her eyes and shouted in horror, "No! Feng Xiyan!"
Panting heavily, her mind slowly cleared. Realizing she was sitting on the hospital bed, Bai Hanyun looked down at her trembling hands.
As her fingers clenched the white sheets tightly, cold sweat dripped down her chin, darkening the fabric.
Before she could calm down, a familiar male voice filled with worry came from beside her. "Miss Bai, did you have another nightmare?"
Raising her head, Bai Hanyun turned and saw Ouyang Zhuangyu handing her a glass of warm water.
Taking the glass, Bai Hanyun gave him a weak smile. "Mhm."
Ouyang Zhuangyu looked at her pale, exhausted face and said, "Miss Bai, did you take your medication before sleeping?"
Bai Hanyun nodded, then fell silent.
Frowning slightly, Ouyang Zhuangyu’s gaze lingered on the dark circles under her eyes.
’This won’t do. I need to inform the captain and discuss whether we should find a psychiatrist for Miss Bai.’
Having made up his mind, Ouyang Zhuangyu said, "Miss Bai, since you are awake, I will go buy something for you. Is there anything you’d like to eat?"
Bai Hanyun shook her head. "Anything is fine."
"Alright. I will be back shortly. If you need anything, please call me."
"Mhm."
After Ouyang Zhuangyu left, Bai Hanyun took a sip of water, then placed the glass on the bedside table.
Now that she had calmed down, the nightmares that had haunted her since returning from the Ancient World resurfaced in her mind.
Closing her eyes, Bai Hanyun shook her head, trying to rid herself of those bloody images.
Her lips trembled as she whispered, "No... Xiyan will be alright. He won’t die."
Although she kept repeating this to herself, the sense of foreboding and anxiety in her heart grew stronger with each passing day.
After a long silence, the fear and despair in her eyes slowly faded. Looking at the morning sky through the floor-to-ceiling window, Bai Hanyun’s fingers tightened.
Determination gradually filled her clear eyes.
Taking a deep breath, she thought, ’Whether those nightmares are real or not, I can’t just stay here and do nothing. I must find a way to return to the Ancient World.’
At that moment, a handsome face suddenly flashed through her mind.
Bai Hanyun’s eyes lit up as she exclaimed, "That’s right! I can ask CEO Gui. Since he is from the Gui Clan, maybe he knows how to return to the Ancient World."
With a new goal in mind, Bai Hanyun finally broke free from her earlier despair and fear.
When Ouyang Zhuangyu returned with breakfast, he was startled to see the clarity in her eyes. Bathed in the morning sunlight, Bai Hanyun seemed almost surrounded by a faint golden glow.
Sensing his gaze, Bai Hanyun turned from the window.
Seeing him standing by the door, she raised her brows slightly. "Brother Ouyang, why are you standing there?"
Snapping out of his thoughts, Ouyang Zhuangyu smiled and closed the door.
Walking over to the low table, he said, "Miss Bai, I bought your favorite fried dough sticks and soybean milk. I also got chicken porridge, meat buns, and scallion pancakes for you."
As he spoke, he unpacked the food and placed it neatly on the tableware prepared by the bodyguards.
Hearing that they were all her favorite foods, Bai Hanyun smiled and got out of bed. "Thank you, Brother Ouyang. These are all my favorites. You are very thoughtful."
Ouyang Zhuangyu returned the smile and handed her a pair of chopsticks. "No problem. Let’s eat together."
Seeing Bai Hanyun eat with a good appetite, the weight in Ouyang Zhuangyu’s chest finally eased. Taking a bite of a meat bun, he watched her quietly.
’Did something happen while I was gone? Miss Bai seems to have regained her spirit and usual self.’
As Ouyang Zhuangyu puzzled over Bai Hanyun’s sudden change, time passed quickly.
After finishing breakfast, Bai Hanyun said, "Brother Ouyang, I want to be discharged today. Can you help me with the paperwork?"
