Chapter 708: Shocking News
Before Mu Yuhang could find an answer to his questions, his eyes caught movement in the distance. He stared for a moment before realizing it was Wu Ruizhan and his team approaching.
Mu Yuhang’s eyes lit up as he rushed forward. "General Wu!"
Wu Ruizhan raised his head and saw Mu Yuhang running toward them. A faint smile appeared at the corner of his lips when he saw that everyone was safe.
Arriving in front of Wu Ruizhan, Mu Yuhang looked at his dust- and blood-covered face and asked worriedly, "General Wu, are you all alright?"
Wu Ruizhan, who was carrying his wife in his arms, nodded and replied, "Mhm. How about you and the soldiers?"
"Everyone is fine," Mu Yuhang answered. Then, pointing to the ruins behind Wu Ruizhan, he asked, "General Wu, what happened just now?"
Wu Ruizhan’s expression darkened at the question.
Clenching his jaw, he recalled the devastation he had witnessed and said solemnly, "It’s a long story. I will brief you and the others later. For now, dispatch the soldiers to search the city. Find Jin Yu, Jin Cen, and Jin Yan. They should still be inside the city or nearby."
Hearing this, Mu Yuhang clasped his fists and responded, "This subordinate accepts the order."
After saying that, he turned and returned to the army to carry out his task. Behind him, Wu Ruizhan, the generals, the elite soldiers, the officials of the Jin Empire, and their families followed in a hurry.
While the Feng Army was busy searching the imperial capital city of the Jin Empire, something unexpected was happening in Xiqiang City and the Yu Rong Border Pass.
When the first ray of sunlight finally broke through the gloomy eastern horizon, a soldier rushed into the command room.
"Report!"
Hearing this, Zhan Qi looked up from the report he was reading and said, "Speak."
The soldier clasped his fists and reported, "General Zhan, the space and time portal has suddenly disappeared! We have lost the connection, and all the surveillance cameras outside ten li of the garrison have gone offline."
When Zhan Qi heard this, he stood up in shock. "What?!"
"General Zhan, we need you in the control room immediately!" the soldier urged.
Zhan Qi turned to Tuluo Cheng and saw him nod. Without wasting any more time, Zhan Qi strode out of the command room.
"To the control room."
Looking at Zhan Qi’s disappearing back, Tuluo Cheng pondered for a moment before standing up and walking toward the map of the western border hanging on the wall.
While he examined the map and planned a response to the sudden crisis, far away in Xiqiang City, the soldiers inside the control room were also thrown into shock when the space and time portal suddenly disappeared.
In an instant, most of the surveillance cameras went offline, leaving the soldiers frozen in place.
A few seconds later, one of them snapped out of it and shouted, "Quick! Someone, report to General Fan! The rest of you, fix the cameras immediately!"
At his words, the others regained their senses. One soldier rushed out of the control room, while the rest tried their best to fix the connection.
Ten minutes later, the soldier found Fan Wanming in the training field.
"Report!"
Hearing this, Fan Wanming looked away from the elite soldiers training under the morning sun and turned to the approaching soldier.
Seeing how panicked he was, Fan Wanming calmly asked, "What’s wrong?"
The soldier took two quick breaths before urgently reporting, "General Fan, the space and time portal has suddenly disappeared. We have lost most of the surveillance cameras outside Xiqiang City."
"Right now, the security team is trying to fix them, but without a connection, we can only rely on short-range radio signals to keep the remaining surveillance cameras online."
Listening to the report, Fan Wanming’s expression turned serious. "What is the range of the radio signal?"
"Twenty li," the soldier replied.
Frowning deeply, Fan Wanming said, "It’s not enough."
With the rapid development of Xiqiang City, its area had expanded to ten times its original size, and crime rates had also increased with the growing population. Without surveillance cameras, it would be difficult for the soldiers to patrol the city and its surroundings.
After thinking for a moment, Fan Wanming ordered, "Go back to the control room and instruct the soldiers to focus on restoring the connection. This general will take care of the rest."
Clasping his fists, the soldier responded, "Yes, General Fan!"
After receiving the order, the soldier rushed back to the control room.
Fan Wanming then looked at the lieutenant standing to the side and said, "Take over the training. After they finish the morning session, let them rest for a quarter of a sichen, then continue with firearms training."
Clasping his fists, the lieutenant responded, "Yes, General Fan."
After giving his orders, Fan Wanming left the training field in a hurry.
While Fan Wanming and his soldiers were busy restoring the connection and increasing patrols in Xiqiang City and its surroundings, shocking news arrived from the imperial capital city of the Yu Empire.
A soldier in black armor rode toward the outer city gate of Xiqiang City, shouting, "The Prince Regent has been assassinated! The Wen Clan has rebelled! The new emperor has executed Emperor Jing Yang and Empress Dowager Wen!"
Seeing him approaching at high speed, the Gate Captain ordered, "Open the gate!"
Following his command, the soldiers quickly opened the city gate to let the military messenger pass.
Riding into Xiqiang City, the messenger continued shouting, "The Prince Regent has been assassinated! The Wen Clan has rebelled! The new emperor has executed Emperor Jing Yang and Empress Dowager Wen!"
As he rode through the wide, clean streets, the common people were stunned by the news.
After the messenger disappeared into the distance, the crowd finally came back to their senses and erupted into chaos.
A young man pinched his arm and exclaimed in disbelief, "What did I just hear?! The tyrant emperor was executed?!"
