Chapter 286: I Don’t Want To Die
"Let’s head to the freight elevator," Bao Shengjie ordered.
With Bao Shengjie in front, Ouyang Zhuangyu followed close behind, carrying Bai Hanyun as if she weighed nothing at all.
Soon, they reached the freight elevator located in the corner of the long corridor. After they got inside, the doors slid shut behind them.
Ouyang Zhuangyu set Bai Hanyun down gently and asked, "Miss Bai, are you alright?"
Bai Hanyun nodded, then asked back, "What about you?"
"This is nothing for me," Ouyang Zhuangyu replied, a faint smile tugging at his lips. Though his face was covered with sweat, his breathing remained calm and even.
Seeing this, Bai Hanyun couldn’t help but think, ’As expected of a former special forces soldier. Their stamina is truly extraordinary.’
As she thought, the elevator jolted slightly as it descended. After a while, the numbers finally blinked down to B1.
Before opening the door, Bao Shengjie gave a subtle signal with his eyes. Pressing themselves against the wall, the three held their breath as he tapped the open button.
A second later, the doors slid open slowly.
Bao Shengjie poked his head out, scanning the dim basement. After a tense pause, he whispered, "Clear. Let’s move."
In an instant, Ouyang Zhuangyu gripped Bai Hanyun’s wrist and pulled her with him, and the three of them rushed out of the freight elevator into the dimly lit underground parking lot.
A few minutes later, Ouyang Zhuangyu suddenly halted in his tracks. Raising his index finger to his lips, he whispered, "Shh! Footsteps are approaching! Hide!"
Without hesitation, Bai Hanyun and Bao Shengjie followed his command. Just as they slipped behind a pillar, a group of masked men appeared.
Scanning the underground parking lot, the leader cursed and ordered, "Search! They can’t have gone far!"
"Yes, Sir!"
Watching from their hiding place, Bai Hanyun and the others exchanged tense looks.
A moment later, Ouyang Zhuangyu muttered, "We can’t leave while they are still here."
Realizing his intention, Bao Shengjie quickly shook his head and reminded Ouyang Zhuangyu, "Brother Zhuangyu, Brother Jun ordered us not to fight them. We are outnumbered, and it’s too dangerous."
Hearing this, Ouyang Zhuangyu patted his shoulder and explained, "I’m not going to fight them—just lure them away. You know I’m the best choice right now for this mission."
Knowing he was right, Bao Shengjie’s fists tightened. After a brief silence, he finally said, "Fine. We will do as you said."
Making their decisions, Ouyang Zhuangyu continued, "I have prepared two motorbikes outside. When I draw them away, you and Miss Bai take the other one. Don’t wait for me, and head straight back to Fu Cheng Town. I will return alone later."
He then handed Bao Shengjie a key and added firmly, "Be careful."
Clutching the key, Bao Shengjie nodded. "You too."
Ouyang Zhuangyu waited for an opportunity. When he saw that the pursuers had strayed far enough, he rushed out from hiding, sprinting in the opposite direction.
A few seconds later, one of the pursuers spotted him.
"Over there!" he shouted.
As Ouyang Zhuangyu’s figure vanished around the corner, the leader roared, "Chase him!"
Only after the last pursuer had disappeared did Bai Hanyun and Bao Shengjie come out of their hiding place. Not wasting any seconds, they quickly rushed out of the parking lot.
After succeeding in leaving the hotel’s underground parking lot, Bao Shengjie spotted the motorbike nearby.
"Miss Bai, this way!"
Wasting no time, he started the engine while Bai Hanyun climbed on behind him. Once she was seated securely, he accelerated, and the two sped away.
Ten minutes later, Bao Shengjie drove onto the highway and exhaled a sigh of relief.
"Miss Bai, we will reach the airport in forty minutes!" he shouted over the wind.
Bai Hanyun nodded and shouted back, her voice muffled by the wind, "Alright!"
Just as they relaxed slightly, a black SUV suddenly sped up and rushed out from their right direction.
In that instant, instinct moved faster than thought. Bao Shengjie swerved sharply, causing the motorbike to spin out of control.
Ckitt~! Bang!
The motorbike slammed against the street railing, throwing both Bai Hanyun and Bao Shengjie violently into the air.
"Watch out!" Bao Shengjie cried, reaching for Bai Hanyun, but she was too far from him.
Sensing the weightlessness, Bai Hanyun instinctively stretched her hand toward Bao Shengjie, but she could only grip the air. Her heart froze as her body flew past the street railing, plummeting toward the cliff below.
Seeing this, Bao Shengjie’s horrified voice echoed after her, "Miss Bai!"
"Ahhh!" Bai Hanyun screamed, terror choked her throat as she fell toward the jagged rocks below.
Bai Hanyun’s heart sank as the ground loomed closer at a fast speed. Memories flashed before her eyes, and horror consumed her.
’No! I don’t want to die!’
Closing her eyes in desperation, Bai Hanyun shouted, "Damn Mirror! Do something! Otherwise, we both will die here tonight!"
The second her words fell, a golden light burst out from her backpack, enveloping her in a radiant glow.
Seeing that the rocky ground was getting closer by seconds, she screamed, her voice filled with unwillingness, "No! I don’t want to become a pancake! It’s too ugly! Damn it!"
As Bai Hanyun’s cursing words echoed in the surroundings, the golden light glowed brighter. A second before she hit the ground, Bai Hanyun felt the familiar suction force.
Whoosh~!
Then, in the blink of an eye, both the bright golden light and Bai Hanyun vanished, leaving the cliffside in eerie silence.
Bai Hanyun felt the familiar suction force pulling her back for a second before weightlessness enveloped her body again. Her heart sank, and she instinctively shouted, "Ah!!"
"Who’s there?!"
Before Bai Hanyun could open her eyes to see who had shouted, she plunged into the cold water.
Splash!
Flailing her hands around, Bai Hanyun tried to grab onto something before she drowned. After what felt like forever, her fingers finally touched something, and she gripped it with all her strength.
"Ugh!" A man’s groan came from above her head the moment she clutched onto that thing.
While Bai Hanyun was desperate for oxygen, the man grabbed her arm and forcefully yanked her out of the water.
Splash!
