Chapter 210: Night Visit
Gazing at the heavily guarded barracks in the distance, Tuluo Cheng fell into deep thought. After a brief silence, he said, "Since we can’t sneak in, we’d better go in openly."
The leader’s eyes widened at his words. "Military Advisor Tuluo, are you crazy?! What if General Ji’s spies see us? If General Ji knows that we sneak out to meet Feng Xiyan, he will kill us for sure!"
Tuluo Cheng’s eyes flashed coldly when he heard that. Glancing at the leader, he replied calmly, "Since we have decided to betray General Ji, there is no retreat. Our lives or deaths will be decided tonight."
After saying that, he then straightened his clothes and fixed his hair. Once he was done, he looked at the leader and asked, "Are you coming or not?"
Realizing there was no other way out, the leader gritted his teeth and made up his mind. "Let’s go!"
With that, the two of them took off the black cloth covering half of their faces, stepped out from their hiding place, and walked up to the main entrance of the Feng Army’s barracks.
A few minutes later, the guarding soldiers noticed them.
Raising their spears, the two soldiers ordered, "Stop right there! Unauthorized personnel are prohibited from approaching the barracks!"
Hearing this, Tuluo Cheng and the leader paused in their tracks.
Clasping his hands, Tuluo Cheng bowed slightly to the soldiers and politely introduced himself, "Greetings, Brothers. This humble one is named Tuluo Cheng. I have come to meet Great General Feng."
He then straightened his body, smiled, and added, "Brothers, please help me inform the Great General that Tuluo Cheng is requesting an audience with him."
The soldiers exchanged looks upon hearing this.
After a brief silence, one of them said, "Wait here."
Tuluo Cheng smiled and replied, "Thank you, Brother."
While one soldier went to report to Feng Xiyan, the other kept a vigilant eye on them.
Approaching the two soldiers guarding the outside, the reporting soldier clasped his fists and asked, "Brothers, is the Great General already resting?"
One of the guarding soldiers nodded. "Yes."
Hearing this, the soldier frowned slightly.
Noticing his hesitation, the guarding soldier asked, "Brother, do you have something important to report to the Great General?"
The soldier nodded and explained, "There are two men outside the barracks right now. One of them said his name is Tuluo Cheng, and he is requesting an audience with the Great General."
When the two guarding soldiers heard the name "Tuluo Cheng," they looked at each other with a hint of surprise in their eyes.
Noticing this, the soldier asked, "Brothers, do you know this man?"
The guarding soldier nodded and replied, "Yes. He is the military advisor of the Ji Army. Did he say why he came so late at night to meet our Great General?"
The soldier shook his head and explained, "He didn’t, but I think it must be something important if he came at this hour."
Pondering the soldier’s words, one of the guarding soldiers said, "Alright. I will inform the Great General. Brother, please wait here for a moment."
The soldier nodded. "Thank you, Brother."
Walking into the commander’s tent, the guarding soldier stood before the screen that blocked the view of Feng Xiyan’s bed and clasped his fists.
"Great General," he called.
A few seconds later, Feng Xiyan’s hoarse voice came from behind the screen. "What is it?"
The soldier felt bad about interrupting Feng Xiyan’s sleep when he heard Feng Xiyan’s tired voice.
Lowering his head, the soldier explained, "Please forgive this subordinate for disturbing your rest. But two men are waiting outside the barracks. One of them claims to be Tuluo Cheng and is requesting an audience with you, Great General."
After hearing the report, Feng Xiyan opened his eyes. Sitting up on the bed, he thought for a moment before saying, "Let him in."
"Yes, Great General."
While Feng Xiyan stood and began dressing, the soldier exited the tent.
Looking at the soldier who was waiting outside, he said, "Brother, the Great General said to let them in."
Clasping his fists, the soldier replied, "Understood."
After receiving permission, the soldier left to inform Tuluo Cheng.
Meanwhile, Tuluo Cheng and the shadow guard leader grew increasingly anxious as they waited.
Peering into the barracks, the leader lowered his voice and asked, "Military Advisor Tuluo, do you think Feng Xiyan will agree to meet us?"
Tuluo Cheng wasn’t sure, but he knew he couldn’t fail. Clenching his sweaty palms, he replied, "I’m not sure. But based on his usual behavior, we might have a chance tonight."
Just as he finished speaking, the leader saw the soldier return. "Look! The soldier is back!"
Walking up to them, the soldier said, "Both of you, please come with me."
Hearing this, both Tuluo Cheng and the leader sighed in relief.
Clasping his hands, Tuluo Cheng said, "Thank you, Brother."
Following the soldier, Tuluo Cheng and the leader finally stepped into the Feng Army’s barracks for the first time.
While they subtly observed the situation inside the barracks, Gui Ying was also watching them from afar.
Standing on top of the highest branch of a dead tree, he slowly fanned himself with his folding fan and muttered with a hint of interest in his voice, "This is getting interesting."
"This young master expected Tuluo Cheng to betray Ji Hui, but this young master didn’t expect that even the Ji family’s shadow guards would turn away from him."
After saying that, the corner of his red lips curved up slightly.
Gui Ying chuckled and sighed, "Ji Hui, ah, Ji Hui. If you don’t wake up soon, you will be left with nothing."
Pausing, he tapped his chin with his fan and muttered, "It would be boring if everything ended before it even started. Looks like this young master will have to give Ji Hui a little help."
The moment his voice faded, Gui Ying vanished, leaving only a soft breeze to rustle the dead branches.
