Chapter 208: Tuluo Cheng’s Decision
The adjutant ignored Yan Bingyang’s protest and pulled him straight to the bedside.
Dragging a wooden stool over, the adjutant took the medicine box from Yan Bingyang and urged, "Physician Yan, please check on General Ji quickly."
Sitting down, Yan Bingyang lifted the thin blanket and took Ji Hui’s hand.
While he checked Ji Hui’s pulse, Feng Xiyan stood nearby, calmly observing as Yan Bingyang examined Ji Hui’s wounds.
Five minutes later, Yan Bingyang retracted his fingers and frowned slightly.
Seeing his frown, the adjutant became even more anxious. "Can you treat him?"
Yan Bingyang glanced briefly at Feng Xiyan, then looked at the adjutant and calmly answered, "Don’t worry. I can treat him."
When the adjutant heard that, his eyes lit up. Grabbing Yan Bingyang’s hand, he sincerely pleaded, "Physician Yan, please save our general."
Yan Bingyang nodded, then pulled his hand out of the adjutant’s grip and took out a scalpel, alcohol, bandages, and the antidote from his medicine box.
After disinfecting the tools with alcohol, he washed his hands and put on surgical gloves.
Without looking at the adjutant, he ordered, "Go out. Don’t let anyone disturb me."
Seeing the focus in his eyes, the adjutant nodded and left the room.
Now, left alone with Feng Xiyan, Yan Bingyang began the procedure.
He first cut away the rotten flesh from Ji Hui’s wounds, drained the blackened blood, and then cleaned the wounds before applying the antidote powder. Taking clean bandages, Yan Bingyang calmly wrapped Ji Hui’s back.
By the time he finished, an hour had passed.
Removing his gloves, Yan Bingyang washed his hands and wiped the sweat from his face.
Noticing the improvement in Ji Hui’s complexion, Feng Xiyan asked, "Is it done?"
Yan Bingyang turned to look at him and replied, "For now."
Then, glancing at the closed door, he called out, "Sir, you can come in now."
As soon as he spoke, the adjutant entered and rushed to Ji Hui’s bedside.
Seeing color return to Ji Hui’s face, he turned to Yan Bingyang and asked, "Physician Yan, how is General Ji’s condition?"
"He might develop a fever tonight, but as long as he survives the night, he will be fine," Yan Bingyang explained as he prepared some medicine.
Handing a pack of medicine to the adjutant, he added, "Mix a spoonful of this medicinal powder with a cup of warm water and feed it to General Ji every four hours. If his fever persists until morning, send someone to inform me."
Accepting the medicine, the adjutant suddenly knelt down and raised three fingers.
"I don’t know how to thank you for your kindness in saving General Ji. Physician Yan, if there’s ever anything I can do for you, please say the word. As long as it doesn’t go against my conscience, I will go through a mountain of blades and a sea of fire for you."
After making the vow, he kowtowed three times to Yan Bingyang.
Seeing how serious the adjutant was, Yan Bingyang felt a twinge in his heart and sighed inwardly, ’It’s my conscience that hurts for tricking this stupidly loyal man.’
Glancing at Feng Xiyan and seeing him nod, Yan Bingyang took that as approval and reached out to help the adjutant up.
"Alright, enough with the formalities." Carrying his medicine box, he added, "Just remember to feed him the medicine on time."
Then he turned to Feng Xiyan and said, "Great General, this subordinate is done here."
Feng Xiyan nodded and said, "Then let’s go back."
With that, they left the Xiqiang Inn.
As they stepped out of the main entrance, Feng Xiyan asked, "Physician Yan, how long until Ji Hui regains consciousness?"
Yan Bingyang thought for a moment before answering, "If his fever subsides, he will wake up tomorrow morning. If not... he will die before tomorrow’s sunrise."
After saying that, he paused for a second and then asked, "Great General, what will you do if Ji Hui dies?"
Glancing back at the inn, Feng Xiyan’s eyes flickered with murderous intent as he replied, "Then this general’s plan will have to be moved forward."
Hearing that, Yan Bingyang was stunned for a moment before lowering his voice and asked, "Great General, are you planning to—?"
Though he didn’t finish the question, Feng Xiyan understood what he meant.
He nodded silently, clenched his fists, and looked up at the bright sky. After a brief moment of silence, he calmly said, "It’s time to settle the grudge."
Looking at Feng Xiyan, Yan Bingyang remained quiet for a while, then clasped his hands and bowed slightly.
"This subordinate will follow the Great General to the end," he sincerely said.
Hearing this, Feng Xiyan helped him up and smiled. "Thank you, Physician Yan."
Then he turned to the coachman and ordered, "Return to the barracks."
At his command, the coachman helped Yan Bingyang into the horse carriage, while Feng Xiyan mounted his war horse.
In one of the rooms on the second floor, Tuluo Cheng watched them until they disappeared into the distance.
Standing behind him, the leader of the Ji family’s shadow guards asked, "Military Advisor Tuluo, are you sure you want to betray General Ji?"
When he asked, Tuluo Cheng was silent for a few seconds. He then turned to look at the leader and asked, "Can you go against Heaven?"
The leader fell silent at the question.
Seeing that he couldn’t answer, Tuluo Cheng gazed up at the sky and explained, "The reason I followed General Ji was because he promised to help my tribe. But now that he can’t even protect himself, how can he help my tribe?"
Although the Tuluo Clan was known for their intelligence among the twelve nomadic tribes, they didn’t possess any other notable skills besides their sharp minds.
When the drought began more than two years ago, all twelve tribes agreed to open their borders and reach out to the outside world.
For some tribes like the Rong Tribe, who possess business talent, the Dongyi Tribe, who possess deep medical knowledge and skill, or the Miao Tribe, who excel in Gu poison, they could rely on their unique skills to earn a living.
