Chapter 568: Sun Xing
Chapter 568: Chapter 547: Sun Xing
The moment Sun Jiaming heard Gu’er, he understood. She was hung up on the name of Zhang Da and Zhou Feng’er’s daughter, Zhang Juan. He remembered the dream Gu’er had told him about, where she was with Zhang Da. That implied if she and Zhang Da had a child, they might have named her Zhang Juan.
Sun Jiaming didn’t know if he was right, but he had no intention of asking Gu’er. It was just a dream, after all. No matter how real it felt, it was something that could never happen.
‘Taking a huge step back, even if it had been real, it had nothing to do with him and Gu’er now. Right now, he and Gu’er were husband and wife, and their life was wonderful. There was no need to get hung up on anything else.’
“Alright, alright, we won’t use the name Juan. Remember how we were planning to name Jiji, Jixing? We ended up calling him Sun Ji. So how about we name our daughter Sun Xing? Little Star. What do you think?”
Sun Jiaming readily agreed with Gu’er. Even though he wasn’t sure if she was carrying a boy or a girl, he didn’t want to see her unhappy.
“Yes, let’s call her Xingxing.”
Gu’er was thrilled that Sun Jiaming understood her. She rested her head on his shoulder and snuggled closer into his embrace.
Sun Jiaming didn’t dare to hold Gu’er too tightly, afraid he might hurt her. But he loved it when she leaned on him; it showed that she trusted him and could rely on him completely.
“Shame on you, Mama.”
Just then, an ill-timed, childish voice rang out. Startled, Gu’er scrambled to pull away from Sun Jiaming’s embrace. Fearing she would move too abruptly, he urged her to slow down.
“Son, how come you’re awake?”
Sun Jiaming helped Gu’er lie back down, then turned to look at Jiji in his little bed.
“I gotta pee.”
Sun Ji had been woken by a full bladder. He rarely got up in the middle of the night, but he had drunk a lot of soup that evening. When he woke up, he happened to see his parents hugging and decided to speak up.
Gu’er blushed. Her son rarely woke up at night, but she and Sun Jiaming had been so happy they’d left the light on, never expecting their son to see them.
“Papa was just talking to your little sister. You’re not allowed to tease Mama. When you were in Mama’s tummy, Papa talked to you just like this every night, you know.”
Sun Jiaming explained as he helped his son relieve himself.
Jiji furrowed his little brow in confusion. He didn’t quite believe his father.
“Papa’s lying! How come I don’t remember you talking to me every day?”
Jiji shouted, ‘Papa’s a puppy!’ Mama had told him that you shouldn’t lie, and that people who lie are puppies.
“Papa isn’t lying to Jiji. Back then, Jiji was still in Mama’s tummy. Every night, Papa would talk to Jiji just like this, and even tell you stories. If you don’t believe me, you can ask Mama.”
Jiji looked toward Gu’er, who nodded at him earnestly.
“Then can I talk to my sister?”
Jiji sat up, no longer sleepy. He liked the idea of a little sister, just like his little sister Dian Dian. He thought little sisters were adorable. He was going to have his *own* little sister! He decided he would share all his toys and snacks with her. When she was older, he would play with her and protect her.
“Of course you can. But you have to be very gentle, because your sister is still very small right now, and we don’t want to hurt her.”
Sun Jiaming lifted his son onto the big bed as he instructed him.
Although many people doted on and spoiled Jiji, he was still a sensible child and hadn’t developed any particularly bad habits like being bossy, unreasonable, or disobedient.
He gently placed his little hand on Gu’er’s belly and whispered, “Sister, can you hear me talking to you? My name is Jiji. I’m your big brother. I’ll play with you when you come out.”
“I have another little sister named Dian Dian, and a little uncle, and a little brother. We’ll all play with you and give you cakes. I’ll give you my little train and my little airplane, too.”
Jiji’s childish prattle was utterly adorable.
“Okay. When your sister is born, you can look after her, alright?”
Gu’er was deeply touched. Her son wasn’t spoiled; he knew how to share and wasn’t selfish. It was a great relief to her.
“Okay.”
Jiji nodded seriously, just like a little adult.
Gu’er stroked Jiji’s hair. It was dark black like Sun Jiaming’s and felt very soft.
“Mama, I want to sleep with my sister.”
Jiji didn’t want to leave, keeping his little arms wrapped around Gu’er’s belly.
Sun Jiaming started to say something, but Gu’er glanced at him and smiled. “Alright. But your sister hasn’t been born yet, and we have to be careful not to press down on her. Can you be very gentle?”
Jiji nodded and gently hugged Gu’er’s belly. With a glint in his dark, sparkling eyes, he added, “Papa, tell a story. My sister wants to hear a story.”
Sun Jiaming paused for a moment, then broke into a laugh. He tapped Jiji’s nose and said, “It’s you who wants to hear a story, isn’t it, you little rascal?”
“My sister and I both want to hear it. Hurry up, Papa, or my sister will fall asleep.”
Jiji finished speaking and looked up at Sun Jiaming with his bright, dark eyes.
Smiling, Sun Jiaming began to tell a story.
‘Gu’er listened intently. Though Sun Jiaming’s story was simple, her heart was overflowing with happiness and gratitude. This was the life she had always wanted: a loving marriage and sensible, well-behaved children. This was the happiness she had longed for but could never have in her past life. Now that she had it, she would treasure it all the more.’
Jiji fell asleep listening to Sun Jiaming’s story. Once he was sound asleep, Sun Jiaming carried him back to his little bed.
“That little guy is getting harder and harder to fool.”
Sun Jiaming remarked with a sigh.
“Well, he’s getting older. I was thinking of sending him to preschool next year. What do you think?”
Around here, some parents who are busy with work just throw their kids into full-time daycare at one or two years old. But Gu’er hadn’t sent Jiji. With family at home to watch him, why make him suffer through it? By next year, though, Jiji would be five according to traditional age counting, so it might be time to give it a try.
“Mom wants him to go straight to elementary school. She says it’s not like we don’t have someone to watch him, so why make him go through that? I think it’s fine for him to go to preschool, but won’t he still be a little young next year?”
Sun Jiaming himself didn’t object, but he was worried Cao Qiu would.
“It’s not that I expect him to learn much. I just want him to experience that kind of environment and spend more time with other kids. Then again, there are a lot of children around here, so he isn’t shy and he knows how to look after others. I suppose sending him when he’s six would be fine, too.”
‘It wasn’t that Gu’er was dead set on sending him. But she still felt preschool before elementary school was necessary. It would let him get used to a larger environment, experience school life, and learn about teachers, rules, and being part of a group. Otherwise, he might have trouble adjusting if he went straight to elementary school.’
“Alright. We’ll see when the time comes.”
Sun Jiaming nodded. He and Gu’er saw eye-to-eye on this. Besides, even if they did disagree, they could always talk it over and find a solution.
And so, the two of them slowly fell asleep as they talked. Jiji, for his part, had no idea his parents had just settled the matter of his attending preschool. But it wouldn’t be a bad thing for him; he would actually come to love the group activities at preschool, and would even become the class monitor of the senior class.
