Chapter 559: 539: Bloodthirsty Feng Ling (2)
Chapter 559: Chapter 538-539: Bloodthirsty Feng Ling (2)
Chang Jinlan was absolutely furious with her daughter. Of course, she was going to leave the family’s assets to her son and grandson—they were the ones who carried the Li name. Li Ting was married, so her children wouldn’t be part of the Li Family. Besides, her son-in-law had never contributed a single cent to the household. Her own son, on the other hand, made his own money and always gave some back home. Her daughter-in-law had been filial and sensible since joining the family, treating both her and Li Quan with the utmost respect. And now, she was carrying the next generation of the Li Family. Why on earth shouldn’t she treat her daughter-in-law well?
“Li Ting, don’t yell at Mom. She didn’t mean anything by it. Her blood pressure has been a bit high recently, so don’t upset her. Let’s sit down and talk things out. We’re family, there’s nothing we can’t discuss.”
Feng Ling spoke up to mediate. She hadn’t really wanted to get involved. After all, Chang Jinlan and Li Ting were mother and daughter; it was better for her not to interfere. But she saw Chang Jinlan’s chest heaving as she struggled to breathe and was afraid Li Ting would anger her mother-in-law to the point of illness.
“Who asked you to butt in? Who the hell do you think you are, meddling in the Li Family’s business? If you hadn’t used that pretty face of yours to latch onto my brother, do you think you’d be living this good life? Don’t think I don’t know what you’re up to. You’re just using that baby in your belly to try and snatch everything in this family, aren’t you? It’s all your fault! Mom only treats me like this because of you! My life is miserable because of you! Let me tell you, if you think you can walk all over me, you can dream on!”
Li Ting had always looked down on Feng Ling. It was fortunate she had married before her brother did; otherwise, she would have given Feng Ling no end of grief.
Because Li Ting looked down on Feng Ling, she had never been polite to her, nor had she ever truly considered Feng Ling her sister-in-law. She felt that Feng Ling was completely beneath her. In her mind, Feng Ling should be the one sucking up to her, and everything in the family should belong to her, not to an outsider like Feng Ling. She felt Feng Ling had stolen everything from her, so she was hostile toward her.
She was already fuming, and now Feng Ling had the nerve to try and placate her. ‘When did this Guan Fengling get the right to speak in this family?’ Li Ting thought. ‘If I don’t put her in her place, she’ll never learn who she is.’ Instead of heeding Feng Ling’s words, she reached out and gave Feng Ling a hard shove.
In that moment, she gave no thought to the consequences. It never crossed her mind that she might be pushing too hard, that she could hurt Feng Ling, that she could hurt the baby. All she wanted was to vent her anger.
Feng Ling never imagined Li Ting would resort to violence. She was carrying Li Zhi’s child, and she knew how thrilled and attentive the Li Family was about the pregnancy. Li Ting was Li Zhi’s own sister; Feng Ling never dreamed she would actually attack her. As a result, she was caught completely off guard.
Feng Ling was standing very close to Li Ting, so she couldn’t dodge the shove. But even though she was unprepared, she still had her instincts. She hurriedly shielded her stomach with one hand and threw the other back, reaching for anything to break her fall. If she could just grab onto something to steady herself, she might not fall at all.
When Chang Jinlan saw her daughter push her daughter-in-law, her heart seized, and the breath caught in her throat. With a cry of alarm, she rushed forward to catch Feng Ling, but she was too far away. She wouldn’t make it in time.
Li Ting was standing right next to Feng Ling. If she had reacted, she could have easily reached out and caught her. But she didn’t. Instead, she sneered. ‘It was just a little push, what could happen? Look how dramatic she’s being. She’s just faking it.’
With that thought, Li Ting didn’t even move a muscle, letting Feng Ling fall backward.
Feng Ling’s hand brushed the edge of the sofa, but she couldn’t get a proper grip. She didn’t fall onto the sofa itself but slid down next to it, landing on the floor. Because her arm had absorbed some of the impact, her landing wasn’t heavy.
Feng Ling felt a pain in her stomach. She didn’t know if it was from the fall or just in her head, but it felt like her insides were being twisted into knots. ‘Am I going to lose this baby? Is something happening to it?’
Feng Ling’s mind flashed back to her previous life, to the child she’d had in that life. She remembered lying there, covered in blood. Her eyes began to turn crimson.
“Ling! Ling! Are you okay? Does your stomach hurt? Don’t scare me.”
Chang Jinlan quickly knelt beside Feng Ling, the anxiety on her face genuine. Even if Feng Ling weren’t pregnant, she was still her daughter-in-law, and she was terrified something terrible might happen. Her son was out; if something happened to his wife, how could she ever explain it to him when he got back?
“What pain? It was just a little fall, what’s the big deal? She’s from the countryside, she can’t be that delicate. Look at her, she’s totally fine. She’s just trying to blame me.”
Li Ting knelt down too. She saw there was no blood on Feng Ling’s clothes, which to her, meant that Feng Ling was fine.
