Chapter 554: Let's Have a World for Just the Two of Us
Chapter 554: Chapter 535: Let’s Have a World for Just the Two of Us
Zhang Lili lunged at Feng Ling, looking like she was about to tear her to shreds.
Hearing her coming, Feng Ling quickly sidestepped and dodged the attack.
Li Zhi saw that Zhang Lili had gone berserk. Her face was twisted, devoid of any of its former beauty. When Feng Ling dodged and Zhang Lili lunged for her again, he stepped in front of his wife and seized Zhang Lili’s arm. He gripped it tightly, ignoring her struggles.
“Are you out of your mind?! If you want to throw a fit, get the hell out and do it somewhere else! Don’t think a little fame and money makes you so special that you can walk all over everyone. If you still don’t get it, I don’t mind making you understand.”
Li Zhi’s temper flared. Of course, no one would be in a good mood if someone showed up to cause trouble on their wedding day.
“Let go of me! You’re hurting me! Li Zhi, you’re a bastard! You’re blind! What’s so good about this wife you found? Just you wait. Wait until she scams you out of all your money. Wait until she ruins your life.”
Zhang Lili tried to wrench her arm free from Li Zhi’s grip, but she couldn’t break away. She tried to kick him, but she couldn’t reach. Seething with hatred, she could only resort to cursing him.
“What right do you have to say anything? Our lives are none of your damn business. Mind your own. Keep this up, and don’t blame me for getting rough.”
Li Zhi shot her a cold glare. ‘If she were a man, I would’ve already grabbed him by the collar and thrown him out. But she’s a woman, so I can’t do that.’
With that, Li Zhi forcefully shoved her away. Zhang Lili staggered, nearly falling to the ground.
Gu’er signaled for Li Zhi and Feng Ling to leave. She could hear voices outside; people were starting to look for them. If the newlyweds didn’t go out soon, the guests would come searching. Gu’er herself walked up to Zhang Lili. Seeing Zhang Lili open her mouth to scream again, she quickly clamped a hand over it, forced her into a corner, and pinned her there.
Li Zhi and Feng Ling left, but Sun Jiaming stayed behind. He had to keep an eye on things, worried that the crazed Zhang Lili might hurt Gu’er.
Zhang Lili made muffled noises as she watched Li Zhi and Feng Ling leave. Neither of them spared her a single backward glance, as if she were garbage.
“Zhang Lili, don’t burn all your bridges. No one knows what tomorrow holds. If you still want a career, then you should leave on your own. Don’t make everyone hate you so much they decide to deal with you. If you really want to make a scene, fine, I’ll play along. They might not hit women, but plenty of other people do. If that’s what you want, then keep acting up. I’ve got nothing but time, I’ll stay right here with you. Let’s see what kind of trouble you can stir up and who’s the one who loses in the end. If you push it too far, you might just destroy your own future. It doesn’t matter to us. We’ll just keep living our lives in this small city, completely unaffected by you. If you don’t believe me, go on out there right now. I’ll let everyone see what kind of person their precious celebrity really is.”
After speaking, Gu’er released her hand from Zhang Lili’s mouth and watched, waiting to see what she would do.
Zhang Lili had been about to scream, but she stopped herself. She regained her composure, knowing that what Gu’er said was true. If she kept making a scene, it wouldn’t affect Gu’er or Li Zhi at all; it would only make a fool of herself. She finally understood where she stood—these people couldn’t care less about her. Feng Ling wasn’t even fazed by her arrival. Her objective was completely unattainable.
‘As for embarrassing the Li Family, that’s probably impossible too. The Li Family has connections everywhere, both legal and illegal. If I really pushed them too far, they could just hire a few people to ruin me, and I’d be finished. All I wanted was to make Li Zhi regret this and ruin their happiness, not destroy myself. I still have a bright future ahead of me. That director promised me the lead role in his next movie. I don’t need to waste my time on these nobodies. I should get back to the set. If I’m not there, who knows what kind of shameless vixens will be trying to cozy up to the director. I can’t let them get away with that. Once I’m a huge star and have everything, I’ll get my revenge for today.’
“Fine. I can’t be bothered to waste any more words on you. People like you aren’t even worthy of my time. What a waste. If I’d known it would be like this, I wouldn’t have even come today.”
With that, Zhang Lili smoothed her hair, lifted her chin like a proud swan, and strode out.
“What is with her? Is her brain full of water or something? She’s a total psycho,” Sun Jiaming muttered as she left.
Gu’er shook her head. There really were people in the world like Zhang Lili. When things weren’t going their way, when they faced difficulties or perceived injustices, they blamed the heavens and the earth, resenting fate’s unfairness. Then, once they gained some power, they not only sought revenge against those who had wronged them but also bullied those weaker than themselves and looked down on everyone. If Zhang Lili’s career took off and she became truly influential, she would undoubtedly return to seek revenge and cause trouble for them and Li Zhi.
But Gu’er believed someone like Zhang Lili would never reach that level. Her mind wasn’t focused on her craft, but on devious shortcuts.
In any case, Zhang Lili was gone for now, and the farce was over. Hopefully, a person like her would never appear in their lives again.
“They say a good wife is a blessing for life. A man really has to marry the right woman, or he’ll never have a moment’s peace. I’m so lucky.”
Now that they were alone in the private room, Sun Jiaming pulled Gu’er close and said emotionally.
Gu’er smiled faintly. ‘In this life, it wasn’t just her fate that had changed, but Sun Jiaming’s as well. In his previous life, he had married Zhou Mei, and his days had been utterly miserable.’
Sun Jiaming hugged Gu’er, placing a gentle kiss on the crown of her head before pulling her into his embrace.
Gu’er leaned quietly against Sun Jiaming. ‘Perhaps they no longer had the fiery passion of their newlywed days, nor were they as clingy as younger couples who couldn’t bear to be apart for a moment. But their feelings had long since become a part of one another. Their love wouldn’t fade; it would only deepen with the years, a warm and steady current. This was the kind of love that lasted a lifetime.’
“We should get back out there.”
Gu’er listened to the sound of his heartbeat. She loved this feeling, but they couldn’t stay in the private room all day.
“Okay. Let’s go check on our son first, then I’ll go mingle with the guests. I’ll probably have to help Li Zhi fend off all the toasts.”
Sun Jiaming nodded. He also wanted to be alone with Gu’er, but he knew now wasn’t the time.
“Okay, and… how about…”
Sun Jiaming was holding her hand, and just as they were about to move, she trailed off. He looked at her, prompting her to continue.
“How about… one of these days we ask Mom to watch the baby, and we go out, just the two of us?”
She blushed a little after saying it. Since the baby was born, she spent nearly every day with him and had never gone out alone with Sun Jiaming. It felt like they hadn’t had any time to themselves in ages.
“Yes! That’s a great idea. I’d love that.”
Sun Jiaming’s eyes lit up with a smile. He leaned in, gave her a quick kiss on the cheek, and then led a slightly blushing Gu’er out of the private room.
‘I hope our son doesn’t blame me when he’s older,’ Gu’er thought. ‘It’s not that I don’t want to be with him, I just want one day alone with Sun Jiaming.’ With that thought, she and Sun Jiaming went to the other room to see Jiji.
