The Boys: Ultimate Multiversal Lifeform

Chapter 258: 258: Stormfront's Nightmare

"Mr. Greevs should be on a plane to California right now. A studio out there wants to talk partnership with Vought," Ashley said, folder in her hands.

"Then we don't need to wait for him. He's not the main event today anyway." Edgar turned to Starlight on his right and smiled. "Look at this dazzling girl. Hard to believe she smashed Vought's all-time record. Ninety-six in the polls. That number beats everyone sitting here, Homelander included."

Homelander's face went dark under Edgar's stare. He swallowed the anger.

"Everyone knows the Ryan incident a year ago killed the Compound V bill that was about to pass Congress. It also put a stain on Vought's name. After a lot of thought, and for the company's image, the board decided Starlight will be co-captain of The Seven. Any problem with that?" Edgar flicked a look at Homelander.

Homelander kept the public gentleman act and hid the fury behind a fake smile. "Ahaha.. No problem, it's a solid pick. Really great. Can't wait to see Starlight as the next captain."

The Deep saw that fake smile and gave the smallest shake of his head. He knew Starlight was about to have a very bad time.

...

Meanwhile.

Stormfront and Homelander walked into a restaurant and each ordered a steak.

"Something to drink?" the waiter asked, menu out.

"Two Cokes, please." Stormfront gave him a small smile.

"I don't drink Coke. Iced tea."

"Yes, Mr. Homelander. One moment." The waiter wrote it down and left.

Tea sold well in America too, but unlike people in France who liked it hot, Americans wanted it cold. Iced tea meant black tea over ice, usually with lemon slices and a little honey.

"Last time you said you wanted Edgar ruined and kicked out of Vought. How are you going to do it?" Stormfront asked.

Homelander wanted to turn on Edgar?

Ivan, wearing Homelander's face, was a little surprised, then the original plot came back to him.

His expression stayed cold, voice low. "I've been inside Vought long enough. I know every filthy thing he's done. One leak and he's finished."

"So you want to go public on Edgar?" Stormfront frowned.

"That's risky. What if he just denies it? He could dump the whole mess on you. You two might wreck each other." She didn't like the plan. "Better to wait and arrange an accident. He's only human. A car crash could kill him."

"Good idea. But how do you know he isn't the mystery man from that night?" Ivan smiled.

"I tested him. He couldn't even take a weak current. No chance he's the mystery man."

Stormfront still remembered Edgar's reaction. He shot out of the chair like it was reflex. You can't fake that.

"If that's the case, besides Edgar the next most likely person for the mystery man is Greevs." Homelander (Ivan) said it flat.

"You remember a guy named Mesmer?"

Stormfront picked up the Coke the waiter had set in front of her. Homelander shook his head, so she kept going. "His power lets him see the pictures in someone's head just by touching them. Used to be a Vought supe. They dumped him after a financial mess. I found out he snuck back into Vought under a fake name and got his face done. But that's not the important part."

"The important part is Greevs set the whole thing up. Out of curiosity I tracked him down. At first he stayed stubborn. Then I used his daughter as leverage and he told me everything from back then.

Turns out Greevs came to him first. According to Mesmer, the photo job was only known to the people involved, meaning Butcher's crew. Later he remembered there was a stranger in the room while he was doing the job for Butcher. After he saw the mystery man's photo he was sure the man he saw that day was the mystery man."

Stormfront had been digging into Greevs in secret for six months. She actually found a thread.

"So I'm certain. Greevs is the mystery man."

When she finished, Homelander across from her started clapping.

"If you hadn't mentioned him I almost forgot Mesmer even existed."

His calm face surprised her. "You're not shocked? Some nobody's been hiding inside Vought this long. Looks like he wants the CEO chair."

"Shocked? A little. Didn't think you'd find the Mesmer hole. Maybe I should have killed him back then. Dead men keep their mouths shut. Doesn't matter now. You're not the first one who figured out who Greevs really is."

Homelander smiled.

"Who else?" Stormfront locked onto the man in front of her. No. Precisely speaking, it was Greevs.

The thought that she had spent the whole morning with him and noticed nothing wrong sent a chill through her. Her skin crawled.

"Dead people don't need to know that."

Homelander put on a bright sunny smile. To Stormfront it looked terrifying.

In almost the same second Stormfront threw two pale purple lightning bolts at Ivan.

Boom!

Diners screamed. The blast sent Ivan flying backward. He smashed through several tables in a row.

Stormfront did not press the attack. She smashed the window next to her with an elbow and shot into the sky.

She knew how strong the mystery man was. Without Homelander on her side she had zero chance.

"Running?" Ivan stood up without hurry, then stomped the floor hard. With a huge bang. He launched like a cannon shell.

In a blink, he was behind her.

Supersonic flight plus telekinesis pushing him. Combined, his speed now beat hers.

"I knew you'd run. If you hadn't, I honestly wouldn't know how to kill you with blue lasers in front of all these people."

____

For anyone who missed it: So yeah, the person in the confrence room is the real Homelander while the one we saw with Stormfront in the previous chapter was Ivan.
