Chapter 244: You Suspect Greevs?
Half an hour later, Homelander left the secret base where Ryan was locked up.
He walked on the path beside the woods.
Facing Stormfront’s intentional or unintentional teasing, he really had no mood to respond.
Until now he still didn’t believe he killed Becca. If Starlight hadn’t bumped into him, the laser he shot out never would have hit Becca.
So the one who truly killed Becca was actually Starlight, not him Homelander.
But the problem was whether Ryan would listen to his explanation. After all his explanation sounded a bit pale and unbelievable.
So he could only fabricate a lie that sounded more reasonable, then find an opportunity to take out Butcher and the others, and finally completely turn the lie into reality.
Maybe Ryan being kidnapped by Butcher wasn’t a bad thing. At least in Ryan’s eyes Butcher and the others really were insane terrorists.
Based on this point, even if one day Butcher exposed his lie, Ryan still wouldn’t believe it.
Thinking of this, Homelander’s tightly locked brows gradually relaxed.
"Any recent traces of Butcher and the others?" Homelander asked.
Stormfront walking side by side with Homelander shook her head and said, "They seem to have reached some kind of agreement with Edgar. Edgar doesn’t allow us to continue investigating them. Without Edgar’s help we can only rely on manpower search methods to find them. Moreover after the last raid that kid Hughie installed a lot of surveillance cameras near his home."
"Shit! Don’t tell me that as superheroes we have no way to deal with those cameras!" Homelander’s tone was irritated.
"Precisely because we are superheroes we have no way to deal with those cameras. You have to know that Becca’s death has already dropped your public support rate to the freezing point. If any more scandals appear I’m afraid you won’t be able to keep the captain position."
Actually Stormfront didn’t care about Hughie and the others at all. She even hoped to see Ryan turn against Homelander because of Becca’s death.
When that time came, Homelander who had lost the trust of his own son would only have her Stormfront left as the only person he could rely on.
"Edgar is already old. He actually reached a cooperation with Vought’s enemies. Facts show that Vought now needs a truly powerful person to step forward and take charge of the situation."
Hearing Homelander’s big talk, Stormfront only gave an agreeing smile.
This kind of big talk she had already heard countless times from Homelander’s mouth. However recently it had clearly become much more frequent.
This was actually a good phenomenon.
She estimated it wouldn’t take long for Homelander’s patience to be completely worn away. When that time came it would be the moment she and Homelander jointly controlled Vought.
Unfortunately she didn’t understand Homelander. Even if that day came Homelander still wouldn’t let another person share power with him.
"Speaking of which, compared to Hughie and the others I’m more curious about who that mysterious man really is." Stormfront lifted the prosthetic limb installed on her left arm. "Last time he nearly killed me, this time he took out Pure White Witch. His strength is really terrifying."
"Hah. You mean that sewer rat who luckily survived after my laser pierced through his chest?" Homelander showed a face full of disdain and coldly laughed.
"Pure White Witch being killed by him only proves that Pure White Witch was pitifully weak."
Homelander proudly looked at Stormfront. "And you’re only a little stronger than Pure White Witch."
"If that day Edgar had sent me over, then the one who died wouldn’t be Pure White Witch, but that pretentious mysterious bastard." Homelander suddenly stopped walking and grinned ferociously. "That’s why he doesn’t dare appear in front of me openly, because he knows I can easily twist his head off."
"Fine. Regarding this point I don’t want to argue with you. But since the other party can understand Vought Corp so thoroughly, it means he is either some high-level person inside Vought Corp, or has close connections with some high-level person."
"Who do you suspect?" A trace of curiosity rose in Homelander’s eyes.
Stormfront was a bit hesitant. "Greevs."
"Greevs?" Homelander was a bit surprised, but after thinking carefully Greevs really did have a large suspicion. "Why not Ashley? Sometimes the unremarkable guys are often the true masterminds behind the scenes."
"Don’t joke around. That baldy Ashley can’t even grow hair, let alone possess powerful regenerative abilities."
Mentioning regenerative abilities, Stormfront and Homelander almost simultaneously thought of the scene that happened at the hearing. Greevs actually managed to take off his own head and then grow a new one. Such terrifying regenerative ability, even Stormfront who has seen much and lived a long life has never seen a second supe who can do that.
"If Greevs is that mysterious man, then he’s hidden deep enough."
"No. We seem to have forgotten one more person." Homelander suddenly said.
"Who?"
Apart from Greevs, Stormfront couldn’t think of a second suspicious candidate.
"The Doppelgänger ."
Stormfront felt a bit unfamiliar with the Doppelgänger that Homelander mentioned. She seemed to have never seen the other party.
"The Doppelgänger ’s power is transforming himself into the appearance of another person. If he wants to become the mysterious man it’s simply effortless. Besides that his power can very well steal intelligence, which exactly matches the characteristics of his power."
The moment he thought that he might have fucked the mysterious man and even had contact for a long period of time.
Homelander felt an indescribable awkwardness.
"But whether he is the mysterious man or not, one test will tell. Tonight I’ll invite him out. If he’s not the mysterious man then Greevs has a large suspicion."
Considering Greevs’ identity as vice president, Homelander didn’t want to completely tear faces with him all at once.
"Good idea." Stormfront suddenly received a text from the director. Looking at the content of the text she chuckled lightly. "Greevs actually wants to cameo as the villain in the movie. Perfect opportunity to test him a bit."
...
"Mm, I got it. Go abroad temporarily for a while. Come back when I tell you to come back." Expressionless Ivan hung up the phone, then through his anonymous account in a Swiss bank transferred a sum of money to the other party.
Knock knock knock... A rhythmic knocking sound rose.
Outside the door came the assistant director’s slightly fawning voice.
"Mr. Greevs, Homelander and the others have arrived. The director is asking you to come over. I don’t know if it’s convenient for you right now?"
Click! Ivan pushed open the door of the room and smiled. "They finally arrived. I thought they would skip work. By the way, has their work schedule always been this unstable?"
"Today they might have special circumstances, special circumstances." The assistant director didn’t dare say anything bad about Homelander and Stormfront, so he hurriedly laughed it off.
