Chapter 51: Left Alone
"Go." Nova urged in a hushed whisper, pressing her forehead to Yoa’s.
Air whooshed through her hair at his sudden movement. Just like that, he was gone. Nova stared at the empty spot he’d been in.
The sunlight still shone through the open space across from her, luminating the wooden decking, multicolours reflected across the floors and walls from little light catchers dangling freely besides wooden wind chimes. Without Yoa shielding her from the sun’s glare, she squinted then flopped back against the pillows with a loud sigh.
She stared up at the wooden beams and decking of the ceiling above, the branches of the original tree stretching out like limbs cradling the floor above. A small smile played on her lips as she ran her fingertips along them to the feel of Yoa’s phantom lips on hers. She felt unravelled entirely and blissed out.
The feeling slowly faded, though, as Nova was left by herself, casually lying there butt naked, entirely exposed to anyone who might walk in. Goosebumps rippled across her skin—she felt a little chilly without Yoa there to keep her warm. It had to be at least 30 degrees Celsius, but she missed his blazing heat.
Not only that. The warmth drained from Nova as worry formed between her brows. Slowly, she crawled off the heap of cushions she swore had been hardly used and scooped up her bra, thong and dress. Her thoughts remained transfixed on Yoa and their last moments together.
The haze of affection and her orgasm had popped now, replaced with anxiety and moved by Yoa’s selflessness. That was another reason why she liked him. Yoa was off galivanting to another part of the island to help others in need.
Although he might have done this more than a dozen times, Nova still couldn’t help but worry, chewing her bottom lip between her teeth. He was powerful. Aiyana claimed it as well. But what if there were loads of opponents like the ones they’d faced earlier with the Apatka—well, ’faced’ in the sense that they were threateningly served delicious stew by the chief.
Standing around doing nothing and worrying wasn’t going to do her any good. Nova dressed in her clothes, wondering if there might be any fabrics she could use for a makeshift dress or shorts and top. That was the distraction she needed, moving and doing something useful while her jungle man was out there fighting off who knew what!
Stop. Stop. You’re spiralling into nervous sweats again. Yoa will be fine.
Nova felt the fabric of her skirt between her thumb and fingers, looking at how worn and dirty it was again. Well, they had been making out in the lake and mud earlier... Nova’s cheeks warmed, and her body tingled from the memory. Her chest tightened as well. She could tell he was getting further and further away from her.
