My Taboo Harem System

Chapter 192: Immeasurable

The first thing Denzel noticed was that the Crown had stopped whispering.

That was somehow worse.

The chamber was still shaking around him.

Dust drifted from the ceiling.

Cracks spread across the stone floor.

But beneath all of it, there was silence.

The other Denzel stood several meters away, black energy curling around his body.

The Crown floated above his head.

It no longer looked like a simple crown.

It looked alive.

Seven black points extended from its surface, each one pulsing with a faint silver light.

Denzel tightened his grip on the dagger.

[Royal Crown Trial.]

[Objective: Defeat the Original.]

[Additional Condition: Survive.]

He stared at the last line.

’That sounds encouraging.’

The other Denzel laughed.

"You got the message too?"

Denzel didn’t answer.

His eyes remained fixed on him.

The older version of himself tilted his head.

"You’re wondering what ’defeat’ means."

"Not really."

"No?"

"I’m wondering why the system calls you the Original."

The smile disappeared from the other Denzel’s face.

For the first time, something like irritation appeared in his eyes.

"You really don’t remember."

"No."

"Of course."

He took another step.

"You were always good at forgetting."

Denzel’s jaw tightened.

"Don’t talk like you know me."

"I know you better than anyone."

"You knew the person I was before."

The other Denzel’s eyes narrowed.

"No."

He pointed at Denzel.

"I knew the person you were supposed to become."

The words barely left his mouth before he vanished.

Denzel’s instincts screamed.

He moved.

A black blade cut through the space where his neck had been.

Denzel ducked and rolled across the floor.

He came up on one knee.

The other Denzel stood behind him.

Denzel turned immediately.

Another strike.

He blocked with his dagger.

The impact threw him backward.

His feet dragged across the stone.

’Strong.’

He barely had time to think before another attack came.

Denzel twisted.

The blade passed his shoulder.

He countered with a slash.

The other Denzel leaned backward.

The dagger missed by inches.

He smiled.

"Better."

Denzel stepped back.

"You talk too much."

"And you still have that habit."

"Which one?"

"Getting angry when you’re nervous."

Denzel’s expression hardened.

"I’m not nervous."

The other Denzel laughed.

"You’re terrified."

Denzel charged.

Their weapons collided.

Once.

Twice.

Three times.

The older Denzel moved with frightening precision.

Every strike was controlled.

Every step had purpose.

Denzel couldn’t predict him.

Not completely.

But something was changing.

His body was beginning to understand the rhythm.

The next strike came from the left.

He blocked.

A second followed from above.

He stepped aside.

A third—

Denzel ducked before it came.

The other Denzel’s eyes widened.

Denzel noticed.

’Got you.’

He drove his shoulder into his opponent’s chest.

The other Denzel stumbled.

Denzel swung.

The dagger cut across his arm.

Black energy sprayed into the air.

The older Denzel looked at the wound.

Then at Denzel.

His expression changed.

"You’ve improved."

Denzel breathed heavily.

"I’ve been told."

"Not like this."

The wound on the other Denzel’s arm closed.

Denzel’s eyes narrowed.

"Regeneration?"

"No."

The older Denzel flexed his fingers.

"The Crown."

Denzel glanced upward.

The black Crown pulsed.

[Royal Authority: 64%.]

The number had increased.

Denzel frowned.

’Why?’

The other Denzel noticed his expression.

"You finally understand."

"Understand what?"

"Every time you resist me, it responds."

Denzel looked at the Crown.

"What does?"

"Your Authority."

The older Denzel smiled.

"You thought that number was measuring power."

"Isn’t it?"

"Partly."

He raised his hand.

Black energy gathered around his fingers.

"It’s measuring how much of the Crown recognizes you."

Denzel’s eyes narrowed.

"And you?"

"Thirty-nine percent."

Denzel froze.

He looked at the system.

[Royal Authority: 64%.]

Then back at him.

"You’re losing."

The other Denzel smiled.

"Not yet."

He raised his hand.

The chamber suddenly went dark.

Denzel felt the temperature drop.

Then the world disappeared.

No chamber.

No parents.

No Crown.

Nothing.

He stood in the middle of an empty street.

Denzel looked around.

"What is this?"

His own voice answered.

"You’ve been here before."

Denzel turned.

A younger version of himself stood several meters away.

Maybe eight years old.

He was crying.

Denzel froze.

The child looked familiar.

Too familiar.

A woman knelt beside him.

His mother.

She wiped his tears.

"Don’t be afraid."

Denzel’s breathing became shallow.

Another memory.

His father stood nearby.

His expression was broken.

The child looked up.

"Are you coming back?"

His father didn’t answer.

The memory shifted.

A different room.

Machines.

Lights.

A black Crown floating above a table.

Denzel watched helplessly as his younger self lay unconscious beneath it.

His mother stood beside the table.

She was crying.

His father held her shoulder.

"We don’t have another choice."

"We do."

"They’ll find him."

"They’ll find Denzel."

"They’ll kill him."

His mother looked down.

"He’s our son."

His father closed his eyes.

"I know."

The memory shifted again.

A voice echoed through the room.

Not human.

Not entirely.

[Royal compatibility insufficient.]

The Crown pulsed.

The child screamed.

Denzel stepped forward.

"Stop."

Nobody heard him.

The Crown descended.

The child’s body convulsed.

His father tried to move forward.

His mother grabbed him.

"No."

"We have to stop it."

"If we stop now, he’ll die."

Denzel stared.

The scene disappeared.

He was back in the chamber.

He dropped to one knee.

His head throbbed.

The other Denzel stood across from him.

"You remember now."

Denzel looked up.

"Some of it."

"Enough."

"No."

Denzel slowly stood.

"Not enough."

The other Denzel frowned.

"You saw what they did."

"I saw what they tried to do."

"Same thing."

"No."

Denzel’s eyes hardened.

"They were trying to save me."

The other Denzel’s expression went cold.

"They were trying to make you."

Denzel shook his head.

"You don’t get to decide what I am."

"I don’t?"

The other Denzel lifted his hand.

"You exist because I failed."

Black energy erupted around him.

"Everything you have came from me."

Denzel raised his dagger.

"Then I’ll give it back."

The other Denzel vanished.

The next impact cracked the floor.

Denzel barely blocked the strike.

His arm went numb.

Another strike.

He dodged.

Another.

He jumped backward.

The older Denzel was faster now.

Much faster.

Denzel couldn’t keep up.

A kick struck his ribs.

He flew sideways and crashed against a pillar.

Pain exploded through his side.

He coughed.

The other Denzel approached slowly.

"You’re still fighting like someone who wants to survive."

Denzel wiped blood from his mouth.

"What’s wrong with that?"

"You don’t understand."

The older Denzel raised his hand.

"You can’t defeat me while you’re afraid of becoming me."

Denzel’s eyes narrowed.

"So that’s your plan?"

"My plan?"

"You keep trying to make me think we’re the same."

The other Denzel stopped.

Denzel pushed himself upright.

"We aren’t."

The Crown above him pulsed.

[Royal Authority: 69%.]

The other Denzel stared.

Denzel noticed.

"Every time I reject you, the number goes up."

The older Denzel’s expression darkened.

"Don’t misunderstand."

"Then explain it."

"You aren’t rejecting me."

He pointed at Denzel’s chest.

"You’re rejecting the Crown’s version of you."

Denzel frowned.

"What?"

"You’ve spent your entire life believing you had to become something."

The other Denzel stepped closer.

"The Crown gave you power."

His voice lowered.

"Your parents gave you a name."

He pointed toward himself.

"And I gave you the possibility of becoming more."

Denzel stared at him.

"But none of that answers the question."

"What question?"

"Who am I?"

The other Denzel smiled.

"You still don’t understand."

"Then tell me."

"You are the result."

Denzel’s brow furrowed.

"The result of what?"

The other Denzel looked toward the Crown.

"Choice."

The chamber shook violently.

Both of them looked upward.

The Crown split.

Not physically.

Something inside it fractured.

A silver line appeared across its center.

Denzel’s system appeared.

[Royal Authority: 73%.]

[Warning.]

[Original Authority destabilizing.]

The other Denzel’s face changed.

"Impossible."

Denzel looked at him.

"You said the Crown rejected you."

"It did."

"Then why is it reacting to me?"

The other Denzel didn’t answer.

Denzel took a step forward.

"You’re afraid."

"No."

"You are."

The older Denzel’s jaw tightened.

"Don’t confuse uncertainty with fear."

"Sounds like fear."

Denzel smiled faintly.

The other Denzel attacked.

Denzel moved at the same time.

Their weapons collided.

But this time, something was different.

Denzel felt the Crown.

Not physically.

Somewhere deeper.

A pressure inside his chest.

A pulse.

Thump.

He moved.

The other Denzel struck.

Denzel blocked.

Thump.

He stepped forward.

The older Denzel attacked again.

Denzel ducked.

Thump.

The Crown pulsed.

Denzel’s movements became smoother.

Faster.

His dagger met the other blade.

The impact sent black energy through the room.

The other Denzel stumbled.

Denzel followed.

One strike.

Two.

Three.

The older Denzel blocked each one.

But he was retreating now.

For the first time.

Denzel saw it.

’He’s losing ground.’

He pushed harder.

The other Denzel suddenly grabbed his wrist.

Their faces were inches apart.

"You think this means you’ve won?"

Denzel struggled.

"No."

"Good."

The other Denzel’s eyes turned silver.

"Because you haven’t."

The Crown above them shattered.

A wave of energy exploded through the chamber.

Denzel was thrown backward.

He hit the ground.

His ears rang.

Dust filled the air.

"Denzel!"

His father’s voice.

He looked toward the entrance.

His parents were still there.

His father was trying to reach him.

His mother was staring upward.

Denzel followed her gaze.

The Crown was gone.

In its place floated seven fragments.

Six were black.

One was silver.

The silver fragment slowly descended.

Straight toward Denzel.

His father shouted.

"Don’t let it touch you!"

Denzel froze.

The fragment stopped inches from his chest.

The system appeared.

[Royal Crown Fragment Detected.]

[Fragment seeks Host.]

[Accept?]

Denzel stared at the two options.

[YES]

[NO]

He looked at his father.

His father was terrified.

Not angry.

Not commanding.

Terrified.

Denzel looked at his mother.

She shook her head slowly.

Not because she wanted to control him.

Because she was afraid of what might happen.

Then Denzel looked at the other Denzel.

He was on one knee.

Blood ran from the corner of his mouth.

But he was smiling.

"You see?"

Denzel frowned.

"What?"

The older Denzel laughed quietly.

"It chose you."

Denzel looked at the fragment.

For the first time, he understood something.

The Crown wasn’t asking whether he wanted power.

It was asking whether he was willing to accept the truth.

Whatever that truth was.

Denzel raised his hand.

His fingers touched the silver fragment.

The system flickered.

[Choice registered.]

[Royal Authority: 81%.]

[Integration denied.]

Denzel’s eyes widened.

The fragment didn’t enter him.

Instead, it dissolved into light.

The light spread across his body.

The seven circles beneath his collarbone appeared.

One by one, they began glowing.

The other Denzel’s smile vanished.

"No."

Denzel looked at him.

"What?"

The older Denzel slowly stood.

"You weren’t supposed to do that."

"Do what?"

"Choose yourself."

The final word echoed through the chamber.

Then the system appeared again.

[Royal Crown Trial: Phase One Complete.]

[New Objective.]

[Find the person who created the Crown.]

Denzel stared at the notification.

His expression slowly hardened.

He looked toward his father.

Then his mother.

Neither spoke.

Denzel already knew.

There was something they hadn’t told him.

Something even the other Denzel hadn’t mentioned.

He closed his fist.

"Mom."

She looked at him.

"Who created the Crown?"

Her eyes trembled.

His father closed his eyes.

The other Denzel smiled again.

And this time, Denzel knew the smile wasn’t amusement.

It was anticipation.

His mother finally whispered the answer.

"Your grandfather."

Denzel went still.

"Grandfather?"

She nodded.

"The first King."

The chamber fell silent.

Then somewhere deep beneath the facility, something ancient awakened.

A heartbeat echoed through the stone.

Once.

Twice.

Then a voice spoke through the walls.

"At last."

Denzel looked up.

The system appeared.

[Unknown Royal Presence Detected.]

[Authority Level: Unmeasurable.]

Denzel’s expression changed.

’You have got to be kidding me.’
