Chapter 377 - 188: Gargoyle Lair 2
Even as the most basic Warrior among the Gargoyles, the Gargoyle Warrior’s combat effectiveness still far surpassed that of the Skeleton Undead. They were a defensive Combat Sequence, even slightly stronger than Skeleton Warriors.
[Gargoyle Warrior]
[Introduction: The morons of the Gargoyle race. Big, dumb, and not fully evolved. Their combat power might be garbage, but at least they’re stupid! If you don’t give them orders, they’ll just stand by and watch as the enemy tears your home apart! Summon with caution, and appreciate them for what they are.]
[Requirements: Stone * 5 units, Skeleton * 5 units, Soul Energy * 80 units]
’Tsk, the system’s toxic tongue is as sharp as ever,’ Li Ziyu thought. ’It really shows no mercy.’
After reading the system’s Introduction, all Li Ziyu could say was that, as expected of a Low Level unit, it really felt like something was missing.
His gaze fell to the Flying Gargoyle. This was the kind of Gargoyle he actually wanted to summon, the kind that better matched the image he had in his mind.
Judging from the picture, the Flying Gargoyle resembled a cross between a bat and a human. Its most conspicuous feature was the pair of enormous black bat wings on its back. It had a Sub-human appearance, with a bat-like nose and ears. The ears were long and pointed, and its upturned nose was sunken with large nostrils, making it quite ugly.
Its body was slightly stooped, and it stood on three-toed feet. Its heels were pulled back, propping its body up.
[Flying Gargoyle]
[Introduction: A classic unit from the Gargoyle clan. They are like giant bats flitting through the night sky, ready to strike at the enemy at any moment. These creatures are both sensitive and clever, ruthless toward their foes, and fond of pranks. Their combat effectiveness is only passable, but their ability to fly freely adds a lot of points in their favor.]
[Requirements: Stone * 10 units, Skeleton * 15 units, Soul Energy * 150 units]
The Flying Gargoyle was significantly more expensive than the Gargoyle Warrior. In the past, Li Ziyu would have had to think twice before summoning them, but now his resources were plentiful, so summoning a few wasn’t a problem.
’I’ll summon 100 Flying Gargoyles first and see how they perform.’ With a grand wave of his hand, Li Ziyu made it so.
It wasn’t long before Li Ziyu heard a commotion outside. He opened the door, stepped out of his room, and looked around, but he found nothing.
Just as he was about to turn back inside, a figure suddenly descended, its shadow falling over Li Ziyu.
Li Ziyu narrowed his eyes at the shadow that had suddenly appeared before him. From within it, the head of the Dark Skeleton emerged, its gaze fixed on the figure behind Li Ziyu. That figure stretched out a finger and gently brought it down on Li Ziyu’s shoulder.
"WAAH!" Li Ziyu shouted, spinning around.
"SKREE!" The startled Flying Gargoyle shrieked and leaped backward. Its broad bat wings flared open, and it instantly shot into the air, looking down at Li Ziyu in a slight panic.
It had just been summoned and, feeling mischievous, had wanted to give Li Ziyu a scare. It never expected that instead of scaring its master, it would be the one getting a fright.
A triumphant smile spread across Li Ziyu’s face. He pointed to the Flying Gargoyle in the air. "Come here."
The Flying Gargoyle composed itself, then with a flap of its great wings, flew over to Li Ziyu and slowly descended. Meanwhile, the Dark Skeleton silently sank back into the shadow, as if it had never appeared.
Li Ziyu looked up, examining the Flying Gargoyle. He couldn’t tell from the picture, but now that it was standing before him, he realized the creature was huge—it had to be three meters tall.
’It really was ugly. With an appearance like that, it would be a perfect prop for a haunted house. It would scare people witless, guaranteed.’
Li Ziyu looked the creature up and down but couldn’t find its Weapon. Remembering it was one of the Magic Creatures, he figured it must have hidden its Weapon away. "Where’s your Weapon?" he asked. "Take it out, let me see."
The Flying Gargoyle nodded. It clenched its fist in the empty air, and a Longsword materialized from the Void.
The Longsword’s design resembled a medieval Western Two-Handed Sword, capable of delivering devastating cleaving attacks.
Li Ziyu nodded and circled the Flying Gargoyle once more. He even examined its bat wings, which were smooth and soft. He squeezed the Gargoyle’s arm; it was hard, yet had the feel of muscle.
’These Undead are really something else. Who could tell this was summoned from Stone and Skeleton? It seems just like a normal living creature!’
It wasn’t until Li Ziyu placed his fingers under the Flying Gargoyle’s nose that he realized it wasn’t breathing. It was definitely one of the Undead.
"Alright, you can go." After his inspection, Li Ziyu waved his hand, dismissing the Flying Gargoyle.
Flying Gargoyles generally didn’t like staying indoors. They much preferred perching on high places like eaves and rooftops, happily and silently watching the drama unfold below.
Li Ziyu didn’t need to assign them places; they would find their own perches.
The Flying Gargoyle nodded, gave a skree, and leaped backward away from Li Ziyu. Its broad bat wings snapped open, and in an instant, it was flying out of the main building.
Having just been summoned into this world, it was filled with curiosity. After exiting the main building like a bat, it immediately made for the roof and flew up.
On the main building’s roof, which Li Ziyu was using as a temporary watchtower, he had stationed several Skeleton Longbowmen on guard. Seeing something fly toward them, the Longbowmen immediately drew their bows. But when they identified the newcomer as a Flying Gargoyle, they lowered their weapons and resumed pacing the rooftop as if nothing had happened.
