Global Lords: The Undead's Mobile Fortress

Chapter 79 - 78: The Ox Demon Enters the Battle

The Headhunter Clan People were much faster than the Skeleton Undead. The Undead tried to encircle and kill them several times, but the Headhunters dodged every attempt and even managed to take down quite a few in return.

They had already figured out the Undead’s secrets, making them much easier to handle. The Undead were slower, their attack patterns were simplistic, and their weak point was their skulls. Thus, the Headhunter Clan People quickly developed a new combat technique: clansmen with blunt weapons like Bone Rods and Bone Hammers served as the damage dealers, while the rest were responsible for distraction and containment.

In the eyes of the Headhunter Clan People, who were now familiar with the Undead’s fighting style, these skeletons were all idiotic and incredibly easy to eliminate—even easier to deal with than Wild Beasts that knew how to flee and assess a situation.

’No matter how many more of these things there are, we can wipe them all out!’

Thinking this, the Headhunter Clan People, who found the fight growing easier by the second, moved even faster, shattering the skulls of the Skeleton Undead one by one and turning them to dust.

’Huh, there’s one. I’ll get it!’

A Headhunter brandishing a Bone Rod spotted a Skeleton fighting two of his companions. He crouched low, approached silently, aimed for the Undead’s skull, and leaped into the air to deliver a powerful blow.

The rod whistled as it sliced through the air, then... it hit nothing.

He had put all his strength into the swing, but it only hit air. The momentum sent the Headhunter stumbling forward, nearly making him fall. A dazed, bewildered look appeared in his eyes.

’I just killed several Undead by ambushing them. How did I miss this time?’

"Watch out!"

Before he could make sense of it, he heard a companion’s shout. He turned his head in confusion, just in time to feel a sharp pain in his ribs. A cold sensation flashed across his neck, and something warm started trickling down from it.

The Headhunter instinctively clutched his neck, but blood seeped unstoppably through his fingers. He tried to cry for help but could only manage a gurgling sound. His Bone Rod dropped to the ground as he slowly sank to his knees, both hands pressed against his throat. His Power was fading fast, and his vision slowly turned to Darkness.

The Low Level Skeleton Warrior, having landed a three-hit combo—a stab, a twist, and a slash—on its ambusher, took a great leap backward out of attack range. It flicked the blood from its Bone Saber, ignored the dying Headhunter, and fixed its gaze on the two who had been fighting it moments before.

’He’s a goner.’

The Headhunter with the slit throat knelt on the ground, his head bowed in silence. The two remaining Headhunter Clan People stared at this different-looking Undead, their expressions grim.

’This thing is different from the other skeletons!’

They had already experienced it in the fight just now: the skeleton before them was faster, its attacks were sharper and more dangerous, and it had even dodged an ambush to counter-kill one of their own.

Someone not used to fighting the Undead would have a hard time telling the difference between Low Level Skeleton Warriors and regular Skeleton Undead. After all, judging by appearances, the Skeleton Warriors were just slightly taller and their bones a bit whiter.

The Low Level Skeleton Warrior swayed slightly, then suddenly stepped forward into a charging stance. The two Headhunter Clan People immediately tensed up, but at that exact moment, a whistling sound erupted from behind them.

’What?!’

The moment they heard the sound, both of them knew it was bad. They tried to dodge, but it was too late. Five Spears, thrown from a distance, impaled their bodies.

"Aaargh—"

The two Headhunter Clan People, who hadn’t expected the ambush at all, let out agonized screams. Meanwhile, the Low Level Skeleton Warrior that had feinted at them launched its attack. It leaped in front of them in a single bound, its Bone Saber flashing through two swift cuts.

It was like an ancient assassin delivering a fatal blow. The Bone Saber sliced cleanly across both their necks. It then stepped back to the first kneeling Headhunter, gripped its Bone Saber with both hands, aimed for his back, and plunged the blade in viciously before pulling it out.

It waited a moment. When it saw that the two Headhunters had gone silent, it walked over and stabbed each of them through the heart to ensure they were truly dead.

The Headhunter Clan People might know how to use Combat Techniques involving distraction and ambushes, but the Skeleton Warriors knew them as well—and were even better at them. The mid- and High Level Skeleton Warriors didn’t charge directly onto the battlefield. Instead, they looked for opportunities from a distance, throwing their Spears and piercing the Headhunters through when they weren’t paying attention, chilling them to the bone.

After losing dozens of their people to the Skeleton Warriors’ Spear ambushes, the Headhunter Clan People realized something was wrong. They couldn’t go on like this. The Undead already outnumbered them. If they let this war of attrition continue, with these ambushes on top of it, they would all die here!

’Charge! Attack the fortress!’

’As long as we kill the Human inside the fortress, we’ll have plenty of time to tear it down and claim final victory!’

The Headhunter Clan People gathered into two waves. The larger one charged the Undead Main Tower, while the smaller one rushed the Treasure Hunting Catman’s main tower. The Minotaur Tribe, standing ready in formation, was completely ignored.

"Hm?"

Watching the battle from a window, Li Ziyu frowned. They had abandoned the fight with the Undead to charge directly at the main towers. ’Strange,’ he thought.

He recalled the Conscience Merchant telling him that some City Lords had been targeted and killed by the Natives. Li Ziyu was instantly on alert. ’Could it be that those Transmigrators died at the hands of these things?’

’Now this is interesting.’

With a single thought, Li Ziyu split the Skeleton Undead into two forces to block the two waves of Headhunter Clan People. They were not only to stop the enemy, but to take prisoners.

Liu Xingxing led the Catmen back to the fortress just in time to see the Headhunter Clan People charging toward him, and his face went pale with fright.

’Holy shit, don’t come over here!’

But soon, the Headhunter Clan People were tied up by the arriving Undead, unable to damage the main tower for the moment. This allowed him to breathe a small sigh of relief.

The Headhunter Clan People charging the Undead Main Tower were more numerous and ferocious. The Skeleton Undead failed to stop them, and the Headhunters fought their way to the entrance.

Just as the Headhunter Clan People were about to smash open the gate in one final push, the main tower’s doors swung open on their own, revealing ten towering figures standing behind them.

"MOOOO—"

A soul-shaking bellow rang out, causing the charging Headhunter Clan People to halt abruptly. They then saw the figures behind the gate lower their heads and burst out with a thunderous rumble!

The Skeleton Ox Demons charged with their heads lowered, swinging them from side to side. Their horns were like a pair of Long Spears, flinging aside any Headhunter they touched. When their Charge ran out of momentum, they impaled the nearest Headhunters on their horns, lifted their bodies, and with a powerful swing, sent a bloody arc flying through the air.

THUD—BOOM—

Halting their charge, the Ox Demons stomped heavily on the ground. A shockwave rolled out, forcing the surrounding Headhunter Clan People backward. They stared in horror at the huge newcomers in their midst.

The ten Skeleton Ox Demons, each over three meters tall, were like ten Giant Spirit Gods. They held towering Totem Poles, their ferocious power soaring to the heavens, their auras wild and arrogant, utterly indomitable.

"Kill them!"

After a momentary pause, the Headhunter Clan People’s savage nature was reignited, and they roared as they charged the Ox Demons.

They were the Headhunter Race, a people feared by all tribes in the Wasteland. Although the existence of the Ox Demons had surprised them, that was no reason to be stopped!

The Ox Demons watched the Headhunter Race swarm them. They raised their White Bone Totem Poles, which were wreathed in Dark Energy, and brimming with a murderous, hostile aura, chose to meet the charge head-on!
