True Apocalypse Game

Chapter 411 - 386: Beast Gold

In the Huaxia Navy’s ship naming conventions, aircraft carriers are named after provinces, frigates and destroyers are named after cities, and supply ships are named after lakes.

Puyang itself is a county in Henan. The fact that this frigate could be named the Puyang and had a designation number as high as 3987 was enough to illustrate one point.

During the grueling war between the civilizations of Water World and the World Beasts, all nations had once frantically ramped up production, manufacturing a massive number of warships.

For the Huaxia Navy, naming warships after just prefecture-level cities was no longer enough; county names were also being used to name warships.

Thinking of the brutal battles of the past and the heroic soldiers who had been reduced to bones, Shen Feng felt a surge of solemn respect. He gravely traced the frigate’s silhouette with his flashlight.

The hull was mottled, covered in peeling paint and coating, with holes rotted through in many places.

The frigate was also covered in a large amount of aquatic algae and shellfish. A huge, dark hole gaped in the center of the hull, almost splitting the warship in two.

The deck was also heavily damaged. The frigate’s radar and main cannon were severely destroyed, the gun barrel bent to the point of breaking.

No, it wasn’t a gun barrel. It was clearly a metal slide rail.

This was an Electromagnetic Railgun!

A frigate equipped with an Electromagnetic Railgun!

This was enough to show that in the later stages of the war between humanity and the World Beasts, Electromagnetic Railguns had become standard issue on ordinary warships.

After all, only this type of Electromagnetic Cannon could inflict sufficient damage on a World Beast.

Clearly, the warship had been destroyed by a violent explosion, sunk to the bottom of the sea, and become encrusted with marine life.

Then, after an unknown amount of time, it was accidentally swallowed by this World Beast, becoming just another piece of scrap iron in its stomach.

Although the special steel used for the frigate’s hull was extremely tough, the parts currently steeping in the World Beast’s digestive fluids were constantly bubbling and rapidly decomposing.

It seemed there was nothing this World Beast couldn’t digest.

Shen Feng took a deep breath, found a breach, and after a series of leaps, boarded the frigate’s ruined hull. He planned to check inside for anything useful that might have survived.

THUD... THUD... Shen Feng’s heavy footsteps echoed hollowly on the rust-streaked deck.

He quickly walked along the deck to the spot below the bridge command center. He grabbed a broken ladder, gave it a hard pull, then pushed off with his feet and climbed up.

The bridge was over ten meters high. Just as Shen Feng reached the top, there was a loud CLANG as the ladder completely collapsed, its rotten metal plates falling away.

The command center’s hatch was shut tight, fused securely with coral and other growths.

Shen Feng went around to a window on the other side, leaped, and jumped straight through.

The beam of his flashlight swept across the interior of the cabin, revealing a dark and gloomy space.

Large parts of the control console were covered in shellfish and coral, its original appearance almost completely obscured.

The floor was covered in a thin layer of silt. Stepping on it sent a few crabs and moray eels scurrying out and away.

As the flashlight beam swept into a corner of the cabin, a pale white mass appeared before Shen Feng.

It was a pile of bones.

He walked over quickly and saw that the pile of bones was completely scattered. He could faintly make out four or five skulls, clearly belonging to several people.

Any uniforms they might have worn had long since rotted away.

A silver glint flashed in the flashlight beam. Shen Feng bent down and rummaged through the silt, pulling out several gleaming military dog tags and rank insignia.

Clearly, these bones belonged to former Huaxia Navy sailors.

A wave of sorrow washed over Shen Feng as he looked at these items.

He solemnly put away the dog tags and insignia, his gaze falling on the last item in his hand.

A metal card covered in circuitry.

It was an identification card.

The ID card was clearly made of a special metallic material. After who knows how many years, it was still smooth and clear, without a single trace of corrosion.

In the top-right corner was an emblem of an anchor inlaid with a red five-pointed star. In the center were two sword-like characters: "Eight" and "One."

It was the emblem of the Huaxia Navy.

Shen Feng examined the ID card carefully, then shone his flashlight around. He knew that after so long, any equipment would have failed, but he still wanted to see if there were any other possibilities.

"Xiaofeng, if this frigate is a derivative of the old 054A class... go check the cabinet in the lower-right of the control console. That should be where the ship’s black box is stored." Jingwei’s voice rang out, tinged with a sigh, as if she was reminiscing about something.

Shen Feng immediately went to the spot Jingwei mentioned. After clearing away some of the growths on it, he discovered that the cabinet was sealed tightly and didn’t seem to be waterlogged.

He was overjoyed. He had been about to use explosives to blow it open, but on second thought, he spat the Quantum Force Field Core out of his mouth, clenched it in his right fist, and closed his eyes, trying hard to imagine:

’This isn’t a metal cabinet... It’s a wooden cabinet, and the door is very thin...’

After a moment of self-Hypnosis, he suddenly punched forward. With a loud CRACK, the cabinet door split and fell right off.

Only then did he realize that after so many years of corrosion, the cabinet itself was just a thin sheet of iron. It would have opened with any little effort.

Inside was a stack of documents that had been soaked through and then air-dried.

Most of these documents were in tatters, but he could faintly make out words like "Operations Plan."

However, a hard-covered codebook in the very middle was relatively intact.

Shen Feng forcefully broke the rotten lock and discovered it was a simple captain’s log.

Even in the information age, when captain’s logs had all become electronic and uploaded to the ship’s computer, some people still clung to tradition, preferring to keep some records with pen and paper.

The captain of the Puyang was clearly one of them.

Shen Feng carefully opened the log. Many pages immediately disintegrated into clumps of dust.

But on the few parts that remained, quite a lot of content was still clearly visible.

"April 8, Sunny

Saw Zero Battle Armor today. Project Kuafu will soon proceed... humanity can finally see... light of hope.

Human industrial... brilliant, magnificent scene..."

...

"May 1, Rain

It’s the people’s day of labor, and I didn’t expect to spend it at sea. We hunt the Beast Gold Fleet, like hunters of old. Guess that makes us laborers, too."

...

"May 13

Mobilized the commanders and fighters yesterday. Must get the Beast Gold sample to HQ... humanity’s hope. Can detonate the Puyang’s experimental Fusion Reactor. Hope the Energy Concentration Cannon is use... unfortunately incomplete. Enemy attack. Combat..."

Shen Feng flipped rapidly through the captain’s log. Although many words were missing and the sentences were fragmented, he was able to gradually piece together everything the frigate "Puyang" had experienced.

This frigate, the "Puyang," was no ordinary warship. It had once served as a testbed for new weapons, loaded with a Fusion Reactor and some kind of weapon called an Energy Concentration Cannon.

Judging by the name, that weapon was definitely no weaker than an Electromagnetic Railgun.

Furthermore, the Puyang had once undertaken a mission to hunt a World Beast and transport a Beast Gold sample!

’There’s Beast Gold on this ship!’
