Chapter 406 - 381: Island of the Beast
The giant tentacles that suddenly rose from the sea stirred up monstrous waves, which surged outward in all directions!
The sea around the small island erupted into a tsunami.
The moving Sail Warship was rocked violently, tossing everyone aboard about and draining the color from their faces.
As people who had spent their entire lives at sea, no storm could normally frighten them. But now, they were gripped by a profound terror, because they recognized the origin of those tentacles.
It was the greatest nightmare for every human living in the Water World Apocalypse!
"W-World Beast... Th-these are the tentacles of a World Beast!" Old Bill stammered, his hands clutching the ship’s rail, his face deathly pale.
The surrounding sailors, Witch Tower included, all looked on in utter despair.
They finally understood. This wasn’t some small island—it was the body of a World Beast!
This Purification Church site was built right on the back of a World Beast!
Witch Tower suddenly had a thought. She lunged frantically toward the tightly bound Eddy, grabbing him by the collar and demanding:
"This island is a World Beast? Did the Purification Church tame a World Beast? Did you know about all this? Can you control this thing!?"
She knew full well how powerful the World Beast was. If Shen Feng was truly dragged inside it, there was no way he could survive!
His eyes wide, Eddy stared at the towering body of the World Beast and its kilometer-long tentacles rising from the seabed, muttering under his breath:
"So Paradise Island is the World Beast... The World Beast is Paradise Island... This is all a gift from God... It truly is God... This is God’s messenger... No, that’s not right... Why would God do this..."
His eyes were vacant, and he mumbled incessantly, looking as if the sight had shattered his mind completely.
Realizing he was in no state to control the World Beast, Witch Tower knocked Eddy out with a single punch. She then spun around and rushed to the ship’s rail, her eyes anxiously searching for the aircraft carrier wreck.
The World Beast’s body continued to rise, shaking all sorts of debris from its back.
Its reef-like exterior, covered in oyster shells, finally gave way to reveal the rough, slimy skin beneath. The few remaining Purifiers were tossed into the air.
Some were crushed by heavy objects, others were ground into pulp between the folds of the World Beast’s skin, and still others slipped from the great height, falling into the sea to vanish without a trace.
As for the aircraft carrier wreck, the massive vessel that once stood hundreds of meters tall had been torn to shreds by the tentacles and the folds of the beast’s body. It was now just a pile of mangled scrap metal, sliding off the World Beast’s hide.
There was no sign of Shen Feng.
"Shen..." Witch Tower clenched her jaw, tears already welling in her jade-green eyes.
She believed in Shen Feng’s strength, but that was only by human standards.
Before a World Beast, even the strongest human was just a speck of dust.
’Is Shen Feng really going to die just like this?’
’But those words he said earlier... What did they mean?’
The warship rocked more violently now, the surrounding sea having whipped itself into a miniature tsunami.
The ship’s hull, once massive in its own right, was like a paper boat before a mountain in the face of the World Beast. If this continued, it would soon risk capsizing.
To say nothing of being struck by one of its tentacles, which would shatter the ship in an instant.
This Ironclad Ship, capable of intimidating most Floating Island Markets, was no different from a common rowboat before the World Beast.
Old Bill gritted his teeth and said to Witch Tower:
"Master Witch Tower, what... what do we do? The Captain told us to go to the Holy Corpse Market and wait for him..."
’We can’t stay here any longer, or we’ll all die.’
Witch Tower took a deep breath, her voice trembling as she spoke. "Set sail. Let’s get out of here... We have to have faith in Shen..."
Though grief-stricken and faced with a great mystery, Witch Tower knew she had to make a decision.
All they could do now was trust Shen Feng.
Receiving Witch Tower’s command, Old Bill quickly turned and shouted:
"Full speed ahead! Leave the Fog Sea at once! Everyone, tie a safety line around your waist! All non-essential personnel to the cabins! Start rowing, goddammit!"
The Sail Warship turned and began to pick up speed. There was no time to get their bearings; they could only race toward the outer edge of the Monghai.
It wasn’t as if they had a choice. The raging waves had already pushed the Sail Warship several nautical miles away, making it impossible to approach the World Beast.
The sea continued to churn. Schools of fish leaped from the surface as if the water below were boiling. Even giant sharks and whales, some several meters long, were fleeing in a panic.
Clearly, these sea creatures were terrified of the World Beast’s power, darting about like headless chickens.
Every living creature had but one thought: get away from that terrifying monster!
Torrents of seawater, carried aloft by the World Beast’s tentacles and body, rained down from the sky.
More than once, a tentacle plummeting from the sky crashed into the sea not far from the Sail Warship, kicking up colossal waves and striking fear into the hearts of the crew.
At first, the crew was terrified, certain the World Beast would notice them and smash them to the seafloor. But they soon realized the beast paid them no mind at all.
To the World Beast, this nearly ten-thousand-ton Sail Warship was likely no different from any other fish in the sea.
Just a speck of dust.
The Sail Warship’s steam-assisted engine ran at full tilt, its sails bulged, and the sailors grabbed oars, rowing desperately in the lower decks to push the ship to its absolute top speed.
The fog in the Fog Sea remained thick. As if sensing the World Beast’s awakening, spectral warships began to appear in the mist, sailing toward the great beast. They were the ghosts of ships destroyed in a prehistoric war.
Witch Tower and the others stared at the phantom vessels, realizing this must be a reenactment of the world’s end. Back then, fleets of warships must have charged that very same World Beast, launching suicidal attacks without a moment’s hesitation.
A low, guttural growl, like rolling thunder, erupted from the direction of the World Beast. The sound wave rippled outward, so powerful it seemed to freeze the sea spray in mid-air for a split second.
Witch Tower immediately looked back toward the World Beast. The colossus had now fully emerged, towering hundreds of meters above the sea. Its massive tentacles writhed through the air and water, and beneath the surface, a dense forest of immense appendages was faintly visible. Its hideous head was a hybrid of octopus and insect, and its enormous eye glowed like a sickly yellow moon. A single glance was enough to make one’s blood run cold!
Every human present felt a primal, instinctual terror—the awe and reverence of a creature at the bottom of the food chain gazing up at its apex predator!
It was more than just fear; it was panic, a prelude to madness!
The crew’s legs went weak. They collapsed to the deck or bent over, clutching the rails for support. Some, overwhelmed by the sound alone, began to vomit uncontrollably.
For the people of the Water World Apocalypse, this fear was an instinct they were born with.
On the entire deck of the Sail Warship, only Witch Tower remained standing, pale but defiant. She stared directly at the terrifying creature in the distance, her heart consumed with worry.
’Shen... can he possibly escape?’
’You have to survive...’
Meanwhile, on the World Beast’s back, where the aircraft carrier wreck had been, Shen Feng was being crushed by the surging flesh. If not for his petrified skin, he would have already been ground into a pulp.
Even so, he felt one of his ribs snap under the immense pressure.
But he wasn’t panicked. Instead, he closed his eyes, focusing on releasing his Thought Field to sense his surroundings.
Shen Feng’s right hand was clenched into a tight fist. A faint blue light pulsed from it, like a lone Firefly in the dark.
It was the Quantum Force Field Core.
Just then, the World Beast’s flesh encasing Shen Feng suddenly shuddered. A moment later, a frantic Consciousness Field descended and enveloped him!
Shen Feng snapped his eyes open.
’Here it comes!’
