Chapter 375 350: The 3 Great Epics, Part 2
The chanting of the Epic of the Sinking World took nearly an hour, concluding with the line, "The brilliant radiance has faded, the seas have drowned all, humanity is trapped on the world's lonely isles, and every person is an island unto themselves…"
The Minstrel wiped the sweat from their wheat-colored skin. Their small nostrils flared as they sniffed the scent of the Dragon's Saliva Fragrance. Seemingly re-energized, they began to chant a second epic for Shen Feng.
The Savior Heroic Epic.
The plots of the two epics overlapped slightly. While the Epic of the Sinking World focused on the suffering endured by human civilization, the Savior Heroic Epic centered on the tragic battles fought as the world was destroyed—on the starlike brilliance that burst forth from humanity in its final moments before being submerged.
It especially focused on the organization that had once led all of human civilization in search of hope—the Salvation Army.
"He spoke of humanity's hope before a field of wheat,
Every word shining like a star.
The Salvation Army took their Lord's teachings to heart,
And burned themselves as torches,
To light the path for human civilization.
Even if that path led to a Hell shrouded in black mist,
They charged forward without hesitation…"
Shen Feng's eyes lit up. He understood that this Savior Heroic Epic was about the Shen Feng and the Salvation Army of this Water World!
It was just that they, like his "self" from the Gray Tide World, had also failed.
'Still, I need to listen carefully to the details. I have to know how I died in this world so I can avoid making the same mistakes.'
The Minstrel's tone now became passionate and intense. Through their chanting, they quickly recounted the past struggles of this world's Salvation Army.
After the battle of San Francisco, the Wormhole continued to expand. One after another, new Exotic Giant Beasts began to appear.
Humanity abandoned the oceans, retreating to the continents. The Exotic Giant Beasts, in turn, began to frequent the terrestrial cities, devouring humans at will as if they were delectable snacks.
At first, humanity could only passively defend against the Exotic Giant Beasts by relying on the Coastal Fortress Project.
During that period, humanity dropped over a hundred nuclear bombs into the sea, but they had little to no effect.
Moreover, the sea level was constantly rising. Coastal cities quickly became ghost towns, and the newly built coastal fortresses had to be continuously raised and reinforced.
At this point, forget about sealing the underwater Space Wormhole; even going out to sea had become extremely difficult.
Just as humanity was suffering one defeat after another, the organization known as the "Salvation Army" finally achieved a brand-new research breakthrough.
It was a new element extracted from the bodies of Exotic Giant Beasts. This element, which came to be known as Beast Gold, contained powerful, controllable energy. It was also a catalyst and stabilizer for fusion reactions, and with it, humanity mastered controllable nuclear fusion technology in one fell swoop.
The Salvation Army, thanks to its outstanding performance in previous battles and its discovery and extraction of "Beast Gold," stepped out from behind the scenes and into the spotlight.
Only then did the entire world finally discover that this organization called the "Salvation Army" possessed such immense power.
Dignitaries from various countries and elites from all industries—a large number of them had already joined the Salvation Army or become its peripheral members.
The Salvation Army's internal understanding of the World Beasts and the Space Wormhole surpassed that of the United Nations itself.
And their core figure was a mysterious entity known as the "Savior."
Only after the Salvation Army's propaganda did people learn that the Savior and the Salvation Army he led had already secretly saved the world multiple times.
The one who took down the Exotic Giant Beast at San Francisco Port was that very same mysterious Savior.
For a time, the Salvation Army and their Savior enjoyed unrivaled prestige. This mysterious organization, which had appeared out of nowhere, effortlessly took control of the remaining forces of human civilization, replacing the United Nations and its joint multinational institutions.
They wholeheartedly led human civilization in a fight for its own salvation.
At this time, as the sea levels rose, the World Beasts seemed to have temporarily given up on harassing the remaining continents where humanity resided.
This gave human civilization a golden period of respite.
Soon, using this powerful new element, humanity began to attempt a variety of new strategies.
Super-giant generation ships to escape Earth, Super Giant War Armor to declare war on the beasts, new and efficient space-based Electromagnetic Railguns, and even the construction of undersea cities, and so on and so forth.
However, the appearance of Beast Gold also brought new problems and new conflicts.
Although the Salvation Army had the mysterious Savior as their Commander, this Commander rarely issued direct orders, instead allowing the Salvation Army Warriors to act on their own.
Now, facing a fateful choice for human civilization, a schism began to form within the Salvation Army!
To be precise, aside from a few minor factions, the Salvation Army was mainly divided into two camps.
The Escape Faction and the Resistance Faction.
The Escape Faction advocated for using the extracted Beast Gold and controllable Fusion Reactors to mass-produce giant generation ships. Their plan was for humanity to gradually flee Earth, seeking a new home in space or even on the Moon.
After all, if they couldn't beat the World Beasts, escaping from them was a viable option.
Initial estimates suggested that using the world's remaining industrial capacity, they could transport about ten million people into space.
The rest would have to fend for themselves.
The Resistance Faction's view, however, was that although they could build giant generation ships and leave Earth, human civilization was far from ready. They were completely unable to build large-scale, permanent ecosystems, so those who went into space would still be doomed to die.
On the contrary, only by making a final stand—using the Beast Gold to build the most powerful Super Giant War Armor and killing all the World Beasts—would human civilization have a glimmer of hope for survival.
After all, previous battles had shown that the World Beasts could be killed.
Human civilization's industrial capacity was limited; it was destined to only be able to support the vision of one of the factions.
In the incredibly dire situation at the time, the Escape and Resistance Factions, fighting for their respective beliefs and—in their own ways—for the salvation of humanity, even engaged in several violent clashes.
Brother fought against brother, and many people died.
Under these circumstances, what they wanted most was the Commander's support.
Everyone believed the Commander was on their side and that their own actions were the execution of the Commander's will.
But in the end, they all discovered they were wrong.
And outrageously so.
The Commander did not belong to the Escape Faction, nor did he belong to the Resistance Faction.
He was a member of the Advancing Faction.
To charge into the Shield UY Star Realm—the lair of the World Beasts—and utterly destroy it, blasting it to smithereens!
'Damn…' Shen Feng couldn't help but curse as he heard the Savior Heroic Epic's description of this world's version of himself.
'Was this world's me really that much of a badass?'
