I Carry a Game World With Me

Chapter 390 - 365: Either Lose Your Life, or Sell Your Life

Boya had a large central prison.

It housed a great number of criminals, and the entire prison was practically packed to the rafters.

This was because Boya had been too chaotic in the past.

Nex arrived outside the central prison by car.

It was a special vehicle, one that Baguda had arranged for him.

As he was about to enter the prison, the car was stopped by the prison guards.

Seeing this, Nex handed a set of credentials to a guard.

The guard took the credentials and scanned the verification information on a device. Then, his face filled with respect as he saluted Nex and hastily opened the gate to let him in.

This scene left Nex with mixed feelings.

He had come to this prison, of course, because his men had been locked up here after being captured.

The prison was dim and dark inside.

In a cell in one corner of the prison, a group of newly captured pirates had attracted the attention of the entire facility.

Prisons generally operated on power dynamics.

There were all sorts of factions.

These factions sometimes fought each other, all for the sake of securing special privileges over the other inmates.

But when this group of pirates arrived, no one dared to mess with them. No one even tried to provoke them from behind the iron bars.

For one, there were a lot of them. For another, they were clearly not ordinary men, having been escorted in by soldiers with live ammunition.

The members of the Sar Pirate Organization were still a bit dazed.

Chief Nex’s plan hadn’t been anything like this. But now, during their mission, they had walked right into the enemy’s trap and were all locked up here.

Great. So much for retirement; they were going to be doing hard labor in here for the rest of their lives.

They knew all too well how corrupt and exploitative the prisons in small countries could be.

The pirates couldn’t help but sigh.

"I wonder how Chief Nex is doing."

"He probably escaped, right?"

"That’s good. At least the spark is alive."

"Yeah, as long as the Chief got away, that’s what matters."

"..."

Evidently, these men’s belief in Nex was more than just simple trust.

This also spoke volumes about a person’s character.

Someone with a flawed character could never have earned the respect of so many pirates.

Just as the pirates were lost in these thoughts, one of them suddenly pointed toward the prison entrance. "Hey, look who’s coming in!"

The other pirates all looked over and then froze.

They saw a man in a military uniform with immaculately combed hair walking in.

A middle-aged man followed respectfully beside him, as if terrified of offending him or causing any displeasure.

The pirates recognized the middle-aged man—he was the warden.

When they were brought in, he had been the one to tell them to behave, or else they’d be sorry.

But their attention wasn’t on the warden. It was on the man who had just walked in—who else could it be but their Chief Nex?

"What’s going on? Am I seeing things?"

"If you’re not, then I’m not either."

"That’s Boss Nex? What’s with him?"

"???"

All the pirates were completely bewildered.

The chief they had been worrying about had suddenly appeared in a new guise, one that had the prison warden treating him with such reverence.

This had to be some kind of joke.

Nex walked up to the cell and looked at the pirates inside. Seeing that most of the familiar faces were there, he breathed a small sigh of relief.

But the pirates were all staring at him as if they’d seen a ghost.

"What’s wrong? Has it been so long you don’t recognize me?" Nex snorted irritably.

That sent the pirates into an uproar.

"It really is Chief Nex!"

"What in the world happened?"

"..."

While the pirates were still in shock, Nex turned to the warden. "Open the gate. Let them out."

"Yes, yes, Your Excellency, General." The warden didn’t hesitate, immediately nodding for the cell to be opened. At the same time, he gestured for the armed guards around them to aim their guns at the pirates.

If these pirates dared to make a wrong move and harm the General, he would have his men open fire without a second thought.

The pirates were let out, but they just stood there dumbfounded, not understanding the situation.

"Let’s go," Nex said simply, and started walking toward the exit.

Seeing this, the pirates hurried to follow.

The scene drew the curiosity of every other inmate in the prison. They had no idea who this man was that he could so easily walk out with so many prisoners.

「A short time later, at a temporary base.」

Nex and the pirates were now here.

Once they arrived, the pirates could no longer hold back their questions:

"Chief Nex, what the hell is going on?"

"Yeah, Chief Nex!"

"..."

Nex sighed and explained, "There’s been a change of plans. It seems we might be joining the Xuanfeng Alliance."

He then recounted the Xuanfeng Alliance’s recruitment offer, the situation he had found himself in, his new appointment as a Navy General, and the terms the Alliance had promised.

After he finished his explanation, the pirates were stunned.

What the hell?

The Xuanfeng Alliance knew their detailed plan from the very beginning, which was why they were captured in one fell swoop as soon as they reached the designated location.

And the Xuanfeng Alliance went through all that trouble just to recruit Chief Nex and make him head of the navy?

How weird was that?

How could the Xuanfeng Alliance possibly have known their detailed plan?

Several of the pirates looked at Nex with strange expressions.

"Boss Nex, this wasn’t something you arranged with the Xuanfeng Alliance, was it? A deliberate ploy to get us to join?"

"Yeah, Boss Nex. You didn’t set this whole thing up with them just to make us join the Xuanfeng Alliance, did you?"

"That’s right, otherwise how would the Xuanfeng Alliance have known your detailed plan, Chief Nex?"

"Yeah, Chief Nex, you’ve already been made their Navy General."

"..."

"???" Nex was dumbfounded when he heard this.

’My first thought was to come and rescue these guys, and this is what I get? They suspect me?’

’Damn bastards.’

But it was true that he had become the Xuanfeng Alliance’s Navy General. He had no way to explain that away.

He himself never would have expected the Xuanfeng Alliance to pull a stunt like this.

However, the pirates’ faces quickly broke into wide smiles.

"Chief Nex, you should have just said so! With the terms the Xuanfeng Alliance is offering, we’d have followed you and joined without a second thought."

"That’s right, the Xuanfeng Alliance isn’t bad at all. At least we don’t have to be pirates anymore."

"Yeah, I’ve been a pirate my whole life. It’d be nice to be in the navy for a change."

"I’m not gonna be a soldier. I want to be a boss, open a small shop. Chief Nex, didn’t the Xuanfeng Alliance say we could deposit that money in the Xuanfeng Bank without it being investigated?"

"Yeah, we can finally use that money! Chief Nex, you should’ve just brought us straight to the Xuanfeng Alliance to begin with."

"There was really no need for all this drama."

"..."

"..." Nex was utterly speechless. ’What is going on in their heads? I can’t believe they cooked up such a wild story from nothing.’

He was completely bewildered.

The only silver lining was that, despite their wild imaginations, his men didn’t seem to have any major objections to joining the Xuanfeng Alliance.

After all, they had long since grown tired of the pirate life.

The most crucial part was the money.

It was left over from their time with the Soli Pirates. A large portion of it was the ransom money from his enemy, that tycoon, a huge sum.

The man had cherished his own life dearly, but he never knew his death was already sealed.

That money was being monitored by the FBI of the Beautiful Country. The moment they touched it, the other side would surely know, and they would come looking for trouble again.

If they continued their pirate ways, the other side might even send a fleet after them next time.

That tycoon had been plotting his revenge this whole time, pulling strings behind the scenes.

That was why they hadn’t dared to touch the money, and why they had wanted to pull one last job for retirement. But that "one last job" had landed them in this awkward situation.

But his men were right about one thing.

If they could use that money, they could live very comfortably by joining the Xuanfeng Alliance. It wasn’t that different from their original plan.

"We’re going to the Xuanfeng Bank," Nex said decisively.

This was the moment to test the Xuanfeng Alliance’s sincerity. If they could deliver on their promise, he had no problem pledging his life to them.

If they couldn’t, and the FBI came knocking, then that was just his fate.

It would also prove that the Xuanfeng Alliance had no sincerity at all, and his end would be a bad one regardless.

Either way, it made no difference whether it happened sooner or later.

As he spoke, the pirates all stood up, indicating they wanted to go with him to the Xuanfeng Bank.

"The rest of you stay here. I just need a few people to come with me." With that, Nex led a small group out of the temporary base, his eyes filled with determination.

In his heart, he knew this was a huge gamble.

There were only two possible outcomes: either he would lose his life very soon, or he would be pledging it to the Xuanfeng Alliance.
