The Hidden Immortal

Chapter 37: The Farmer and the Snake

The Songliu Water God Temple, covering an area of several hundred square meters, had many people coming in and out.

Zhang Anxiu also bought a few sticks of incense and pulled Chu Xun inside.

Built with funds raised by villagers from several villages, it wasn't considered too large.

The ground was paved with crushed stones and rammed loess, and several rough wooden tables were placed on both sides for people to place incense and offerings.

Scattered on the tables were some fruits and pastries donated by the villagers, as well as a few ceramic incense burners filled with incense sticks of varying lengths, with green smoke curling upwards.

The walls inside the hall were built of adobe and brushed with a layer of white lime, which had already become yellowed and mottled from being smoked by incense and soaked by rainwater.

In the corners were two large vats donated by the villagers, used to catch rainwater.

Enshrined in the center of the hall was the wooden idol of the Songliu Water God. With a blurred and indistinct face, it held a snake in one hand and stepped on a turtle with one foot.

No one knew what the Songliu Water God looked like; they could only imagine it out of thin air.
