My Class is Null, But I Always Get the Best Outcome

Chapter 207: The Verdant King

Kai and Sera put out the campfire, kicking dirt over the last of the embers. The forest around them had changed over the hour.

No birds.

No insects.

Even the wind had gone quiet.

Sera noticed first.

"...Everything’s gone silent."

Kai knelt beside a footprint pressed into the earth, easily as wide as he was tall. Broken trees lay scattered nearby, their trunks snapped clean through. Deep claw marks scored the bark of everything still standing.

"It knows we’re here," Kai said.

The closer they walked, the heavier the air became, mana pressure building against their skin like the moment before a storm breaks.

...

The trees opened suddenly into an enormous clearing.

At the center stood an ancient tree, hundreds of feet tall, its roots spreading out like the walls of some buried fortress. Glowing vines ran through the bark in slow, pulsing lines, mana moving through them like blood.

Then the tree moved.

The tree wasn’t the boss.

It had been sitting on it.

[Verdant Tyrant Ursa]

Level: 60

A gigantic emerald-furred bear rose out of the roots, bark armor grown directly into its hide, living vines wrapped around its limbs like reinforcement. Every step it took sent new roots erupting from the ground beneath it.

It didn’t roar.

It simply watched them.

Then it stood to its full height, and the pressure alone shook the clearing, dust lifting off the broken ground.

Sera smiled.

"There you are."

Kai drew the Fractured Blade.

"I was wondering what scared everything else away."

...

The bear attacked.

Not with raw strength. With the entire battlefield.

Roots burst up from underground without warning, and vines lashed through the air like whips. The terrain itself kept shifting, ground rising and falling under their feet.

"Sera, left!"

She trusted him instantly, no hesitation, already moving before the sentence finished. A root erupted exactly where she’d been standing a half second earlier.

They fell into rhythm fast. Kai redirected the bear’s attention with short bursts of speed, drawing its focus just long enough for Sera to close in and strike. The boss adapted every time, shifting its guard, changing the angle of its next root before it broke ground.

Its intelligence was obvious within the first minute.

This wasn’t an animal.

...

The bear grew more aggressive. It tore away sections of its own bark armor, and mana surged visibly through its exposed body, threading down into the earth beneath it.

The forest responded.

Branches fell without wind to knock them down. Roots collapsed under their feet mid-step. The entire clearing had turned against them, ground and canopy both moving like extensions of the same creature.

Kai’s eyes narrowed.

"We’re not fighting the bear."

"We’re fighting the forest."

Sera laughed, breathless, spear already spinning to deflect an incoming root.

"That explains a lot."

They shifted their focus, cutting through the mana vines feeding the bear’s power instead of the bear itself. One by one, the vines split open under their blades, mana hissing out of the wounds like steam.

With every vine severed, the bear slowed.

...

The final vine snapped, and the Verdant Tyrant staggered, its massive frame swaying for the first time since the fight began.

Kai saw the opening.

"Sera!"

She didn’t need further instruction.

She leaped, spear trailing gold light, and a rain of spears crashed down around the bear’s front legs, pinning them to the shattered ground. Kai was already moving, appearing beneath its exposed chest a heartbeat later.

One perfect upward slash.

Silence.

The enormous body crashed down, shaking the clearing one last time. Then everything went still.

The forest stopped moving. Birds slowly returned overhead, hesitant at first, then settling back into the canopy. Sunlight broke through the gaps in the leaves, falling in warm bars across the clearing floor.

...

Blue windows appeared, one after another.

[Dungeon Cleared.]

[Boss Defeated.]

[Reward Quality: Optimized.]

[Perfect Synchronization Achieved.]

[Level Increased.]

Kai: Level 56 → 58

Sera: Level 58 → 60

A mountain of loot appeared where the bear had fallen. Monster cores, still faintly warm. Rare herbs. Crafting materials stacked in neat, impossible piles. Mana crystals catching the light like scattered glass.

Then two weapons rose out of the pile, gleaming faintly with residual mana.

Verdant Fang

A long emerald spear forged from the boss’s enchanted fang.

Sera picked it up, turning it once in her hands.

"...This feels incredible."

+20 Vitality

Kai lifted it, testing the weight.

"...Not my style."

He swung it once. The air cracked.

Sera laughed.

"So we’re selling it?"

Kai nodded, setting it down carefully.

"Someone’s going to love this."

The rest of the drops were just as impressive, laid out in a pile that looked more like a vault than a battlefield.

Sera shook her head.

"We really are lucky."

Kai smiled.

"So it seems."

...

The dungeon began collapsing around them, light bleeding out of the trees at the edges of the clearing.

Neither of them rushed. They simply walked toward the exit, boots crunching over ground already starting to dissolve, the Verdant Abyss shattering quietly behind them as they stepped through the light.

Outside, several waiting hunters turned to stare.

One whispered.

"They cleared it..."

Another checked the time.

"...Already?"

Kai raised a hand, ready to wave politely.

Sera grabbed his sleeve.

"No."

"What?"

"If we stop..."

"They’ll ask questions."

Kai nodded.

"Fair point."

They left before anyone could close in around them, footsteps quick but unhurried, the crowd’s murmurs fading behind them into the trees.

...

Evening found them at a quiet café a few streets from the Hunter Association, tucked away from the main road.

No reporters.

No meetings.

Just dinner.

Sera had already ordered enough food for three people by the time Kai sat down.

He raised an eyebrow.

"Planning to feed the whole restaurant?"

"I’m celebrating."

"You say that every meal."

"It’s worked so far."

The waitress arrived, recognized them almost instantly, and returned a few minutes later with dessert she hadn’t charged them for.

Sera grinned.

"I could get used to this."

Kai sighed, dramatic.

"So this is what fame gets us."

"Free cake?"

"I was hoping for discounted mana potions."

She laughed.

"Your priorities are terrible."

They ate slowly, the conversation drifting the way it always did after a good fight.

"So..." Sera said.

"Next dungeon?"

Kai nearly choked on his drink.

"We literally just finished one."

"And?"

"You already want another?"

She shrugged.

"It was fun."

Kai smiled.

"It was."

A comfortable silence settled over the table. People talked around them, the café humming with its own small evening life. The city outside felt peaceful, not loud, not urgent.

Not because Kai had solved everything.

Because other people now could.

Kai looked out the window. The Abyss Watcher headquarters stood in the distance, lights still on in several windows, small shapes still moving behind the glass.

He smiled.

"They’re doing fine."

Sera followed his gaze.

"You knew they would."

Kai nodded.

"I did."

She raised her cup.

"To quiet days."

Kai tapped his glass against hers.

"...They never last."

Both of them laughed.

...

As they left the café, stepping out into the cool evening air, Kai’s phone vibrated once.

One new notification. Not from the System.

From the Hunter Association.

Priority Assignment Available

Kai looked at it for a moment, thumb hovering over the screen.

Then he slipped the phone back into his pocket.

"It can wait until tomorrow."

Sera smiled.

"Good answer."

The two of them kept walking, side by side, through the evening streets of Mythal, the city settling quietly into night around them.
