Chapter 231: Mutated Piggy
That’s just how people are—they have a strange tendency to gravitate toward the strong.
Xie Ning and Song You’ai’s team was so strong it was beyond the comprehension of Li Dawei and his sister, so it was only natural for him to consider joining.
But the two of them were also well aware that the other team was already being generous by not stopping them from following. Wanting to join them was probably just wishful thinking.
"AHHHHH!" Zhao Yanran shrieked, clutching her head as she ran. The sight of the oncoming zombies nearly made her faint from terror.
No one was helping her. Not a single person cared if she lived or died!
Zheng Heng and Gao Zhiquan were fighting zombies together at the front, while Zha Peng stayed back to protect the pale-faced Zhuang Xinyi, Xu Ling, and the other girls. They paid absolutely no attention to whether Zhao Yanran lived or died!
’I knew it. I just knew it!’
Back in Zheng Heng’s group, she had always been treated like she was invisible. Aside from that Holy Mother, Zhuang Xinyi, no one would ever waste their breath speaking to her.
Zha Peng, Zheng Feina, and the others had even told her multiple times that if she wasn’t happy, she was free to leave the team at any time!
They were openly trying to drive her away!
’But is it my fault?’
’Did I want to tag along with their group?’
’If it weren’t for Zheng Heng and his gang of hooligans breaking in and robbing her of all her food and water, why would she have swallowed her pride and followed them all this time?’
’Damn them!’
Just then, a few panicked cries from women came from Li Dawei’s group.
Zhao Yingying was tripped by Zhong Yaying and nearly ended up in a warm embrace with a zombie. Luckily, one of the underlings was quick-witted, knocking the howling zombie back a couple of steps with a sledgehammer.
But the zombie’s skull was unusually tough; a single swing from an ordinary underling’s sledgehammer failed to smash it open.
The zombie let out a loud roar and lunged at the deathly pale Zhong Yaying.
In the nick of time, Li Dawei appeared like a savior, sweeping the beautiful Zhong Yaying up by the waist with one arm and killing the hard-headed zombie with a single strike of his blade.
Seeing this, Zhao Yingying stomped her foot in a towering rage and lunged forward, trying to rip Zhong Yaying out of Li Dawei’s arms.
She began to claw and hit Zhong Yaying, letting out shrill screams and cursing her for tripping her just moments ago.
In contrast, there wasn’t a single shriek coming from Xie Ning and Song You’ai’s side.
The moment the small zombie horde swarmed them, they quickly formed a defensive circle and launched their attack.
The elderly and children were inside the circle. The ordinary people then coordinated with the Superpower Users for a long-range assault, carrying out the first wave of extermination.
When a large number of zombies closed in, walls of fire and earth shot up from the ground in front of the horde. As the zombies were momentarily blocked by the superpower walls, everyone simultaneously used their metal knives to hack at the zombies’ heads.
Row after row of zombies fell before them.
Facing this small team, a few hundred zombies were cut down as easily as slicing vegetables.
Over on Li Dawei’s side, he furiously slapped Zhao Yingying to shut her up. By the time they had frantically dealt with a dozen or so zombies, Xie Ning’s group had already finished off nearly the entire small horde.
The young and old gathered together to collect the Zombie Crystal Cores from the ground, tossing them all into a small back basket first before having Song You’ai rinse them with her superpower water.
In about twenty minutes, everyone, young and old, was back on the minibus. Zhu Yong started the engine again and, without a word, drove straight off!
"Fuck!" Li Dawei cursed, urging his team members to hurry up and dig out the Crystal Cores.
"Get in the van! Get in!" Zhong Shichong waved his hand. "Hurry and follow them."
You’d have to be an idiot not to follow them at a time like this!
Xie Ning’s team had a Spiritual Ability User clearing the path. As long as they followed closely, they could avoid most of the trouble.
"Yingying?" Zhao Yanran’s sharp eyes suddenly caught a familiar figure in Li Dawei’s group, and she called out.
’Why is she here?’
Zhao Yingying glanced back, momentarily stunned. But she quickly looked away and was pushed onto the vehicle by her teammates.
"Yingying! Yingying!" Zhao Yanran tried to call out again but was shoved hard by Zheng Feina beside her.
"Are you getting in the car or not? Or would you rather stay here and keep shouting?"
Zhao Yanran sullenly shut her mouth.
"Feina, are we going to keep following Xie Ning? Do you guys know where she’s headed?" Zhuang Xinyi asked weakly, her face still a little pale.
The small zombie horde just now had nearly scared the rich young lady to death.
The putrid stench of the rotting corpses and their decaying faces... thinking back on it now, Zhuang Xinyi couldn’t help but tremble.
’That calm and composed girl killing zombies... is that really our roommate, Xie Ning?’
"The little blond boy in Xie Ning’s group is probably a Special System Superpower User," Zheng Heng analyzed calmly. "For now, it’s safest to follow them."
"Captain, we should still be careful," Zhu HuiZhen said, holding Qiqi, finally speaking up after much consideration. "Xie Ning won’t care if other people live or die. I know that girl; her heart is colder and harder than anyone’s. We have to be careful not to be abandoned by her as cannon fodder to block a zombie horde at a critical moment."
"It can’t be that bad, can it?" Xu Ling, her face pale, looked at He Zhi and Zheng Feina. "Isn’t Xie Ning your roommate? You two should know her pretty well."
Zhuang Xinyi wrung her hands. "I don’t think it’s likely either, but... that, uh, that auntie just said she’s a Water Ability User. But during the fight, why did it seem like she was constantly releasing ice spikes and ice blades?"
"That’s right," Xu Ling said with a strange expression. "They even lied to us about their superpowers. It seems what Ms. Xiao Zhu said is true; we really do need to be on guard against them."
Zheng Heng frowned but didn’t say much, just told Zha Peng to step on the gas and keep up with the vehicle ahead.
Soon, they figured out Xie Ning’s group’s routine.
Almost every twenty minutes or so, Xie Ning’s party would get out to move the cars blocking the road, scavenging for supplies and gasoline while they were at it.
The highway was congested with many cars, and occasionally they would come across large trucks.
Xie Ning’s group came across a truck full of piglets.
Unfortunately, the piglets’ flesh was rotting and the whites of their eyes had turned a grayish-white. They had clearly been infected by the zombie virus.
Although these piglets weren’t much of a threat, everyone went forward to clear out the truckload of them, operating on the principle that if left alone, they would grow into a bigger problem.
However, as they were clearing out the very back, a cage suddenly broke open. A small, mottled, and incredibly fast piglet shot out with a squeal, looking for all the world like it was making a very human-like escape...
Xie Ning was quick to react. Her Gold Ability formed a hunting trap in mid-air, which shot toward the little piglet’s neck.
The piglet actually curled its entire body into the size of a teacup and shot out from inside the trap.
The onlookers were dumbfounded, their movements pausing for a second. They watched as the piglet, in its panic, leaped straight at Xie Ning’s head.
’You’re clearly trying to pick a fight with the devil herself!’
Just as this thought crossed everyone’s mind, they saw the young girl expressionlessly summon a three-meter-by-three-meter metal net crackling with electricity and slam it down on the poor little piggy.
Unsurprisingly, the pig was slammed to the ground. Its four legs twitched as its body crackled and popped.
The utterly merciless Xie Ning walked up and planted a foot on its small, curly tail.
