Good Ending: She Swears She Will Not Let Him Die!

Chapter 269 - 268: Two Methods

Yunluo hurried towards the Flower Hall.

The Flower Hall wasn’t far from Lianfu Garden. Once past the passageway and around the Moon Gate, you would arrive at the Flower Hall.

In the chilly month of February, the masters had each found their own amusements. The maids and old women left in the Flower Hall had long gone to the wind-sheltered back rooms to chat.

At a glance, Yunluo only saw Lanzhi’s figure standing at the entrance of the Flower Hall.

Due to the angle, Yunluo couldn’t see Lanzhi’s expression. She took a few steps forward and only then heard Lanzhi’s voice.

"What are you doing here?" Lanzhi’s voice was calm, without a ripple.

Yunluo paused. With Lanzhi so composed, was it that she herself had misunderstood? Was she being overly suspicious?

Until she clearly saw Lanzhi’s face.

Lanzhi’s face was indifferent, with a hint of distance and wariness between her brows.

"Second Master is here drinking. Our mistress asked me to check on things," said a voice, and it was Cailian’s.

"Second Mistress sent you?" Lanzhi asked again.

Cailian replied, "Yes."

Lanzhi did not rush inside. Instead, she turned around to see Yunluo and called out, "Fifth Miss."

Yunluo nodded towards her, not rushing, and walked to the outside of the Flower Hall, stepping inside with one foot.

Inside the Flower Hall, Du Yunlang was drunk, leaning motionless on an Eight Immortals Chair, while Cailian stood beside him, fiddling with her fingers, head lowered.

Yunluo sneered silently. Seeing this situation, it seemed she had guessed correctly. If Lanzhi hadn’t come over and left Cailian here for a little while, who knew what could have happened?

"I came to find Fourth Brother, where is he?" Yunluo asked casually.

Lanzhi had just arrived and didn’t know the situation, so Cailian, bracing herself, said, "Third Master drank too much, and Fourth Master took him back."

"And you?" Yunluo turned to look at Cailian, a subtle smile on her face. "Why are you here, instead of at Lianfu Garden?"

Cailian instinctively pinched her fingers and said, "It’s Second Mistress..."

"I was playing cards with Second Sister-in-law, and didn’t hear her instruct you on anything," Yunluo interrupted Cailian’s words sternly, "Second Brother is drunk, and you don’t fetch a blanket, nor call anyone to help, just standing there, what sense does that make?"

Cailian swallowed her saliva, lowering her head into silence.

Lanzhi was perceptive. She had felt something was off with Cailian’s actions earlier, so seeing it now, she knew what was going on. She approached Yunluo and said, "Miss, since this is a maid from Chunhua Courtyard, it’s better to let Second Mistress make the decision."

Yunluo nodded and instructed Jin Rui, "Go invite Second Sister-in-law, discreetly."

Discreetly meant not letting it spread to everyone. Jin Rui understood Yunluo’s intentions, glanced at Cailian disdainfully, and turned to leave.

Everyone has their own ambitions.

Jin Rui disdained becoming a concubine, but she didn’t look down on those with low status. Even a decent and kind person like Aunt Mo earned her respect.

The concubine of Du Yunhu also commanded respect, having been a dowry maid from the Yang Family and taken the position upon their arrangement, creating a bond of mutual cooperation, leaving no room for slander.

But someone like Cailian, who ghosts around with ulterior motives, was looked down upon by Jin Rui from the bottom of her heart.

Betraying one’s master is the greatest sin.

Cailian trembled slightly, mustering up the courage to say, "Fifth Miss, you are right. It’s my lack of skill in serving, I can only stand stupidly here."

Yunluo smiled with her lips slightly curled.

Trying to avoid the main issue and muddle through, was she?

Upon second thought, Cailian’s reaction was understandable.

After all, she wasn’t caught red-handed. When Lanzhi arrived, she hadn’t seen a conclusive scene, so it was natural for Cailian to want to escape and save herself.

Knowing the events of her past life, Yunluo naturally wouldn’t believe her.

Cailian wasn’t looking to gain her trust either, as long as Xia Anxin trusted her, Cailian would have a way out.

Xia Anxin soon arrived. Who knows what excuse Jin Rui used, but she came with just Nanny Guan, not with the usual entourage, afraid of causing distress that might affect her pregnancy.

Nanny Guan and Jin Rui helped Xia Anxin in from either side.

Nanny Guan, having been sternly advised by Mrs. Shen Changgen, took one glance at Cailian and the drunken Du Yunlang and grasped the situation, cursing Cailian silently while feeling relieved seeing Du Yunlang’s clothes tidy.

If there had already been major misconduct, how would she face Mrs. Shen Changgen?

Xia Anxin gently called out a couple of times beside Du Yunlang. Seeing her husband had fallen asleep, her brows furrowed, "During such cold weather, even with a brazier lit, he could catch a chill. Cailian, why didn’t you cover Second Master with a blanket?"

Cailian shivered and said, "It was my negligence, I’ll go get it right away."

"No need," Xia Anxin stopped her, "Go and call some nannies from the back, and help Second Master back to Chunhua Courtyard."

Cailian mumbled a response, hurrying out. As she passed by Yunluo and Lanzhi, she kept her head down, not daring to look at anyone.

Once Cailian was gone, Xia Anxin sighed and shook her head with a wry smile, coming over to hold Yunluo’s hand: "Thanks to you and Lanzhi, otherwise, that stab in the back would have left me spitting three liters of blood.

I’ll deal with her later in my own way."

With Xia Anxin’s words, Yunluo stayed out of it. Cailian was Xia Anxin’s dowry maid, and it was up to Xia Anxin to decide her fate. Yunluo didn’t want to be accused of overreaching.

Cailian quickly returned with two old women.

Xia Anxin said to Lanzhi, "Second Master is drunk, he should lie down soon, I can’t walk quickly in my condition, please assist me by accompanying Second Master back to Chunhua Courtyard."

This clearly expressed a lack of trust in Cailian.

Cailian’s face turned pale instantly.

Lanzhi respectfully said, "Second Mistress, you’re too kind, take your time on the road, don’t worry about Second Master."

Lanzhi directed the old women to help Du Yunlang up. Cailian peeked at Xia Anxin a few times stealthily, standing frozen.

Xia Anxin urged, "You go with them, Sister Lanzhi isn’t familiar with Chunhua Courtyard, why are you dawdling?"

Cailian had no choice but to follow.

Once the group was far off, Xia Anxin showed a hint of fatigue on her face, turned to find a seat, and sat down to catch her breath, saying: "Before I got married, Mother told me something, ’There are two ways to make someone die, either kill them or drive them to death. If you can’t kill them, then push them to it.’ I didn’t understand at the time, but now I have some insight."

Xia Anxin laughed self-deprecatingly.

Yunluo deeply pondered her words and started to understand Xia Anxin’s meaning.

Cailian was her dowry maid, yet she attempted to act improperly in secret. The right and wrong were clear as day. But if this talk spread, others would scorn Cailian, but also mock Xia Anxin, and laugh at Old Mrs. Xia and the Xia Family.

Unable to manage servants properly and being short-sighted, it’s not a good reputation for a mistress in charge of the household.
