Lu Fengmian fell silent.
Then he stepped forward, cupped his hands together, and bowed in one smooth motion.
“Please forgive me, Martial Uncle Zuo,” he said. “This disciple failed in discipline. I will pay for the storage room plaque and cover the cleaning servants’ expenses as well. Whatever Martial Uncle instructs, this disciple will comply with.”
“Junior Disciple Lu, when you’re this polite, it makes me embarrassed to even ask for anything.” Zuo Xunqiu looked at him, his smile meaningful.
“Enough,” he said as he handed Qingming over. “Take it back.”
Lu Fengmian picked up Qingming. The little dragon immediately burrowed into his robes, burying its head while tightly wrapping its tail around his wrist, looking utterly terrified.
“Many thanks to Martial Uncle Zuo.”
He bowed once more before turning to leave.
Zuo Xunqiu’s voice drifted from behind him.
