Chapter 89: Blood (II)
To heal from the mortal wound, Ember mustered all his power to unseal three of his dozen mana apertures--Dawn filled with radiance essence. That proved to be a hasty decision, as the radiance essence concentrated within his apertures was far greater than he had imagined. His wound would have mended just fine with one aperture's worth of essence, had he been able to guide the process.
That was if he had time to guide the healing, but alas, Ember had more pressing matters to attend to.
As the iridescent radiance surged through his chest, Ember fished out the two vials of Abyss Water Dawn had secured for him, as well as the slingshot and explosives he had acquired from the goblins.
Ezamin was barely thirty feet away, crouched beside the chains with that abominable grin on his lips. The distance was not so great for Ember to miss. He aimed while lying down. He couldn't afford more than an instant with Ezamin pressing to maim Dawn, nor could he allow his intent to be known.
All Ascendants tend to have a superior sixth sense, especially those in the Silver Tiers. Thankfully, Ezamin was too invested in his little game and only noticed when the small vial struck and shattered against his cheek. The dark essence hadn't seeped in yet when Ember lunged to his feet. Taking a couple of steps forward, he aimed once again, but this time, he fired a couple of the goblin explosives at the screaming figure.
With the dark water seeping into his shadow cloak, Ezamin's defences were no longer impenetrable. A crack appeared in his dark cloak, its weaving unable to knit back into either of its impenetrable or elusive forms. Then the crude bombs struck him. They exploded at the slightest pressure, flinging him several metres backwards.
Ember continued to shoot explosives after him until he had no more. Sword held tight in his left hand, he pressed forward as the dark silhouette flashed through the bombardment.
Despite being pelted with so many explosives, Ezamin's pace remained swift and elusive. He was still unclassed, and no matter how far into the Silver Tiers his race had reached, Ember could only attribute his swift resilience to that cloak, and perhaps his bloodline power. Either way, there had to be a limit to it.
Even for someone like Dawn, whose bloodline capability was far superior, she had to face terrible backlash for using its power.
