Chapter 87: Final Battle (II)
She already had one in hand as the monstrosity rolled over to rise again, blasting them with its toxic breath, since its petrifying gaze was mostly ineffective.
"Are you sure?" she hesitated. "The nails will take a few minutes to destabilise its skill matrix."
Ember simply held his palm towards her.
"Suit yourself." Dawn obliged him, summoning another for herself.
Their sudden counterattack had enraged the basilisk further, and here Ember thought it couldn't get any more furious. It hurled itself at them with surging force, smashing its body into the stone walls nearby. He had to put everything into evading its attacks, and when he couldn't, Dawn threw up her force shield to help him.
As she had said, it wouldn't weaken in a few more seconds. Although its scales were already tough enough, it was the mana flowing through its veins which made its defence almost impenetrable. Its other magical properties seemed limited to its poisonous breath and petrifying glare. The threat of the former had already been cleansed by Dawn's radiant spell, while the latter couldn't quite grip him, his mind wall and Will Enforcement providing an adequate defence.
With a sword in each hand, Ember blinked from one spot to another, each step carrying him over fifteen metres as he avoided its crashing thrusts. Whether it had slowed down after being struck by the nail swords, he couldn't tell. Even if it had, it wasn't going to offer up its underbelly for him to pin another one in.

He could only wait for her to make the first move and use that spare moment to strike.
