Chapter 85: Unexpected Gains (II)
That relieved him more than he had realised. Finally, one less thing to worry about.
"Darkness isn't like your regular attunements, though," she explained. "While most attunements function differently, Darkness is an even rarer sort. It is the absence of light, the void itself. It can be powerful, but, as far as I have determined, its usefulness in battle is mostly utility-based, though at a higher stage, it can work as a spellbane."
Ember wasn't sure about the last part, but as long as he could use some stealth spells, he'd welcome Darkness with open arms. So many of his problems could be solved just by not being in plain sight. Of course, it might not be as useful in higher ranks, but just having a skill to conceal himself would have saved him from a great deal of trouble in this expedition.
Well, an artefact like Dawn's bracelet could do the job as well, but their use cases were very limited.
"I don't have that attunement, either, but perhaps I can help you cultivate it."
"Well, I'm relieved that Darkness doesn't change anything about me," he said, a visible sign of relief crossing his face, "though I'm a little confounded that I didn't get anything out of the Radiance."
"You haven't?" Dawn quirked her eyebrow. "I have a tiny bit of hope that you'll at least get something like a life attunement out of this ordeal. I suppose it makes more sense. Radiance, after all, is a greater attunement. If one could acquire greater attunements simply by feeding on it, there wouldn't be a scarcity of such powers."
"So you have a greater attunement now?" Ember eyed her. "Congratulations. I hope this makes your trip well worth it."
"More than you can imagine," she said. "You don't know how hard it is to grow an attunement beyond the major rank. And it's especially so for extremely rare cases like Radiance. There are so few resources of it left. Unless you have a bloodline like mine or are gifted with high life and Light Affinity, it's impossible to ever awaken Radiance." Her voice faltered, her lips pressed into a thin line, a sign of guilt surfacing on her picturesque expression.
